Alright time for my third installment to my Black Templar army. This is my first attempt at "object source lighting" so any advise or criticism is very welcomed.

And this picture too. I think it shows off the axe pretty well. Automatically Appended Next Post: coolyo294 wrote:What's that blue lump on his head?
It is the Object source lighting from the axe.

I think its a bit harsh on the head. I doubt it would be that bright at that distance on such a dull skin-tone. Try a few glazes as opposed to actually putting whole paint on the mini.
If you haven't already seen it then Yggdrasil's OSL Tutorial Article is a great help. Overall though well done indeed. Keep at it and remember that practice makes perfect, but all the same this mini will look outstanding on the table-top!

Thanks a lot for the link to the tutorial. I was hoping for someone to point me in the right direction. This was my first attempt at OSL. Back to the drawing board. I will still be able to fix it. Thanks for your post,

I think the axe looks fantastic, but I have to agree - the lighting on the head is too stark and too small. Definitely salvageable, as you said, and a rock solid first try at a rather tricky technique.

Yeah, it seems you've got the O and S parts down, but the L needs a little more refining
Great first try, though. Poke around on dakka and look at some of the expertly done OSLs here (and on CoolMiniOrNot), too.

Not a problem adamwest (great name btw). Just keep at it, tone it down, and broaden the glazes and you'll be well on your way to perfecting the technique.

A good first OSL, I saw a model that came out looking radioactive instead of 'recolored' once. A li'l more practice and you'll have it down methinks.
