Hi everyone, I got 4 ork boyz yesterday from my local store and 5 paints and a brush. I just finished painting them, so I thought I'd show you, remember its my first time painting anything this small, so don't be to harsh

Look nice to me but the lighting is kinda bad for the pics.

Did you invest in any of the citadel washes? Devlan Mud is the bees knees.

Great job for your first models. Washes would definitely be a good next step to progress to. It's easy and adds so much depth to the models. Keep it up!

thanks guys, for all your advice. One more thing though, I'm just thinking, about how many boyz will I need to have a playable force?

Between 40-100 for a midsized forced.

Depends on if they're in trukks or whatnot.

For what washes you need, it all depends on what kind of an effect your looking for. I find Devlan Mud is a good one for Orks, usually pretty good to make the weapons and clothing look worn. It's also not too bad for Ork skin, although I prefer to use Gryphonne Sepia or Badab Black for my Ork skin.

Just experiment a little, read some tutorials, watch some painting videos, ask other playes how they painted something you like. This will help you find a technique / style which you like and 'feels' natural to you.

Yeah I would also advice throwing in another color or two to break up the scheme, just green silver and black almost looks a little bland. Maybe red, yellow or blue? It is a very nice first attempt though, very clean and all and as the others said some washes would make them look great.

thanks, but due to the 'advice' of the shop manager I only picked up 5 colors (boltgun metal, snot green, chaos black, orkhide shade and bleached bone), So next time I go to the store, I'll get, a red, a brown, a wash and another pack of ork boyz, k?

Could do some Chekks and Dags in the Bone color.

Oh, also, invest in a hobby knife if you can. A good way to trim the flash (those little mold lines) and de-sprue if you dont have proper clippers.

I've been doing 2 washes for my orks. Thraka Green for the skin and Devil Mud for the rest of the model (clothes, weapons, etc.), and MAN does that make a difference on the model. Comparing the unwashed models to the washed models is really an eye opener. I was one of those guys that fought against the whole wash thing, but now that I've used it, I've gone back and started applying the washes to all of my models. And it really doesn't take that long at all, mainly because you don't have to worry about being precise when you use it. You can be pretty sloppy and still have the model come out looking great. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Well you can't blame the guy too much it wasn't a bad paint purchase for your first time painting, and he probably didn't want to tell you to buy a whole eight paints in one visit. And that sounds pretty solid.

These look good to me. The smallest number you need to play would be:

20 Orks
1 Warboss

If you can do it I suggest:
18 Orks with 2 Nobs
1 Warboss

The Assault on Blackreach Set is an awesome set for the new Ork Player. It has the Warboss, it has Nobs, it has loads of Boyz, and it even has Deffkoptas. Everything in that box is awesome for a game. Best idea is to split the cost with a friend and let him have the marines - then learn the game together.

Chaos, as in Chaos Marines? If he's actually playing Chaos, he should absolutely relish the chance to 'convert' some'a dem Beakies to the Spikey Gods.

Lol, I never listened to the staff at GW, and they really annoyed me with "have you got all the paints you need, have you got the glue? Do you have some primer?"

Thats why I got my Local Hobby Store to stock GW

"Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

I can't even count how many times I've got home from my closest GW store (an hours drive away from where I live) only to discover that I have forgotten to get primer or some vital paint. I also can't count how many times they've reminded me because of asking just those questions. Listening to them about painting tips or explanations of rules, though, is a different matter altogether. Every single rule I've asked them about have been explained wrong (if the explanations I've received here on Dakka have been right, that is.)

Chaos... as in Chaos Marines? Maybe he can paint them to match his Chaos Army. He could get a Dreadnaught out of the deal. If he has Chaos Bits already, maybe he can really SPIKE 'EM UP.
