Hey, i'm in the process of creating a chaos warband. I dont have much fluff yet but here is what i have:

The Talon guard are followers of all 4 chaos gods, the gods are in a never ending struggle for total domination of the warband. The Talon Guard were once a Loyalist Chapter, until after a mighty battle against the Tyranid Swarm, many Talon Guard fell to the temptations of chaos after seeing things, things that would scar them for life, the gods had been over-looking the chapter for quite awhile, Tzeentch tempted many into the glory of Chaos, Nurgle fed on the wounded, whispering into their minds about imortality, many fell to khorne after seing brutal scenes in the mist of battle, and slaneesh promised the remnants eternal beauty.

After hearing of the rebellion of the Talon Guard, the Ultramarines were sent to purge the uprising, but the talon guard had already left, to become space-faring pirates, much like there brothers the red Corsairs. The Chapter master; Taelios, was favoured by the Chaos gods, he became a almighty Chaos Lord, fighting for the glory of chaos, and hoping one day to become a daemon prince. The Talon Guard employed many tactics before the rebellion, the most renown of them all is there implication of Hit and Run tactics, but the chaos gods despised this and the Warband changed their ways, all except the followers of Slaneesh who still Employ the chapter's orignal tactics. The Talon Guard are a young Warband, still adapting to the new life style of space-faring raiders and seek eternal glory to the Chaos Gods...

Here is some background of the Talon Guard before the rebellion, ironically, i invented the talon guard awhile ago for a custom SM chapter Here it is:

Chapter Master: Brother Taelios of Brimlock

Chapter history:
The Talon Guard, derived from the gene-seed of the Raven Guard, are a chapter who favour hit and run tactics over sheer firepower or brute strength. They struggle to survive as Hive fleet kraken strikes from the east searching for bio-mass and the ever growing Tau Empire advances slowly from the south, hoping to bring new planets into their young empire. Having a secure number of marines ready to fight by their side, the Talon Guard must secure their defences and push back the invaders in their domain, or die trying.

This will allow me to field all nurgle or all khorne or all slanneesh etc. armies, while still following the armies background. I haven't decided on stuff like what to put on their armour, they look like word bearers and i might put flames or something on the armour (don't know yet)
Please comment and Criticise, i'm not concerned about how they fit in the universe so no '' but khorne would always win!!!!!!!!'' or '' this is so stupid they would never worship two gods since blahblahhblahblahblahblahblah''

Thanks in advance guys!

-Hugs to the Hug God!!!

Well, Word Bearers have a lot of red (Khorne like!) but maybe some brown to show Nurgle some love too?

I have a couple of question for you:

1) How did the warband start? Are they a subset of one of the legions (say a small Word Bearers sect or Black Legion offshoot) or a group of loyalist gone bad? If the latter, is the current warband primarily other renegades and CSM that they've picked up as they've pillaged or is the majority of the warband remnants from the original chapter?

2) How are you going to represent the struggle of the two gods for dominance over the legion? Is it going to be a covert affair, with the gods attempting to woo unmarked marines into their worship, or an overt struggle (say a Khornate fallen chaplain and a Nurglesque fallen librarian vying for the favor of their unmarked fallen captain)?

3) Regardless of origin, is warband beholden to a larger chaos body like the Corsairs or the Black Legion? Having a remote body commanding the warband could provide a reason for the worshippers of the two gods to work together (neither side is willing to kill the other half off and incur the wrather of Abaddon/Huron).

4) How does your warband survive? Do they practice piracy like the Corsairs or do they launch mini-crusades from the Eye of Terror? Do they routinely seize minor forge- or agri-worlds to resupply before fleeing as retribution approaches?

Here are some possible answers:

1. There A Group of loyalists gone bad, this is what's funny, a chapter i made for loyalist marines named ''talon guard'' fell to the temptations of chaos, so basically i'm converting all my old marines in to ''the new talon guard''

2. Well, i have actually changed my mind and decided to make it between all 4 gods, it is more of a covert affair, Tzeentch tricking the chaos lord into falling into his grasp, or Nurgle tempting the wounded and weak, to come the under protection of grand- father nurgle Etc.

3. No since the Red talons derived from the geen-seed of the raven guard, here is some fluff of the pre-rebelion chapter:

Chapter Master: Brother Taelios of Brimlock

Chapter history:
The Talon Guard, derived from the gene-seed of the Raven Guard, are a chapter who favour hit and run tactics over sheer firepower or brute strength. They struggle to survive as Hive fleet kraken strikes from the east searching for bio-mass and the ever growing Tau Empire advances slowly from the south, hoping to bring new planets into their young empire. Having a secure number of marines ready to fight by their side, the Talon Guard must secure their defences and push back the invaders in their domain, or die trying.

Although they used hit and run tactics, i'd rather not for my warband

4. They practice Piracy like the red corsairs.

Thanks for the reply, it made me add depth to my warband, btw brimlock is right near the Tau empire and is a imperial guard world (of which easily turn to chaos during the rebllion due to their meek braveness) after the rebelion, the ultramarines launched a planetary assault to end the rebllion, but many Red talons escaped into the darkness of space, the guard wer left there to die

Some more questions:

1)How many marines survived the flight from Brimlock? Most of the chapter? Only a few companies?

2) Are they gathering other renegades into their forces? This is an important one, as all the cult troops require special processes to create. Unless your warband accepts others into their ranks, adding Plague Marines or Khorne Berzerkers causes a fluff inconsistency.

3)Who leads them? Is it their old chapter master (or captain)? Are they governed by a council (maybe with each council member marked by a different god)?

4)How far have they fallen? Are they merely renegades with little to no daemonic influence or are they full blown chaos worshipping heretics? If the latter, how did they get access to daemonic lore? This kind of ties in with number two in that a newly fallen renegade warband won't really have access to daemonic lore and rituals, daemon engines, or the processes for the creation of Plague Marines and the like.

5) Do they have any longterm goals?

Before you read this please check the op, i edited it ALOT
Answers:

1: all of them (see op)

2: Yes, that is one of their goals when raiding if that sounds right and they do accept others into their ranks.

3:Both (think roman senate :p) Thanks for the idea for the representetives of the four gods!

4:They have become full blown chaos worshipping heretics, as for the other Q. Im not sure (have any ideas?) possibly theyy accumalted knowledge during a raid upon: who knows where?

5:yes, to achieve total deamonjood, possibly yo settle on a lanet? and to be feared in the universe.

Man, your questions are teally adibg depth to my warband! Thank you alot!

P.S: sry about the typo's o'm on my ipod and have lityle battery left :p

I would ues something along the lines of half of the chapter made the exscape but of the half 75% turned tratior and sluaghtered the other quarter of their brothers.Aswell as along the way picking up squads of cultist marines. Also I don't belive there is a special way to make beserkers since all they need to do it provide blood for the blood god.

There's way too much for me to pick at in this. First of all, you're a single warband. The Gods themselves could give two about them. You need to read this and then edit appropriately.

*Couldn't give two about them.
The link is a good oneespecially if you're a chapter that has just gone rogue.

I was just trying to assist in the easiest, most direct approach. I figured the best DIY guide that I know of would be the best option.

The DIY guide is a great resource for SM background stuff...

Their Renegade stuff could use some work, but if the OP wants to browse the Liber, they'll find an amazing resource of inspiration.

Renegade stuff tends to be harder to do in general though...
Accordingly this is because it is harder for renegades to survive...

I still want to get around to my "Scavvies" sometime. Not a Chaos warband so much as a Renegade one, they're a group of ramshackle scavengers who piece together what they can from the wake of destruction, gobbing Ork and Marine parts with Imperial GUard castoffs, random Eldar crystals, and whatever else they can bolt together.

So much time flicking about on the edges of society have let mutation creep in (Those darn Eldar crystals don't seem to help!) and now they have several scaley, face-melting-ish, or, well, rat-like members.

Essentially, it takes Chaos Marines and replaces parts from Orks, Skaven, and fantasy marauders.

Had a five-man squad in storage for, like, ever, but never got around to doing up a full army.

MAJOR update, guys, btw the forums over at mwg.com are the best and their shows to... back to the point, Here is the IMMENSELY changed fluff:

Hey, i'm in the process of creating a chaos warband. I dont have much fluff yet but here is what i have:

The Talon guard are followers of all 4 chaos gods, undivided if you wish. The Talon Guard were once a Loyalist Chapter, until after massive battles against the tyranid swarm, and many Talon guard losses, the chapter master and company captains slowly became disillusioned of their devotion to the emperor, as well, the librarians through out the chapter became more and more influenced by the warp . The whispers coming from the warp through the librarians, joined with the failing faith of the chapter's leadership, eventually lead to complete apostasy of which caused the execution of the chapter's chaplains.

The gods had been over-looking the chapter for quite awhile, Tzeentch tempted many into the glory of Chaos, Nurgle fed on the wounded, whispering into their minds about imortality, many fell to khorne after seing brutal scenes in the mist of battle, and slaneesh promised the remnants eternal beauty. A mere fraction of the chapter remained loyal to the emperor, but these loyalists were crushed by the overwhelming amount of traitors. A captain by the name of Lorthan, led the rebellion, he had managed to convince a large portion of the chapter to rebel and worship the chaos gods, they went about killing those who disagreed with him, the Chapter master himself disagreed with this heresy, and killed the Captain leading the rebellion, Taelios picked up his fallen brothers sword, the Howling Talon, but the sword had a daemonic possession that entered Taelios, and he fell to the very darkness he wished to purge. Taelios led the Chapter into heresy, accompanied by Terminator Captain Xaphen who helped Him lead the fallen chapter, believing, that through the favor of the gods, the Chapter would be stronger than the Emperor was ever able to make them.

After hearing of the rebellion of the Talon Guard, the Raven Guard were sent to purge the uprising, but the talon guard had already left, to become space-faring pirates, much like there brothers the red Corsairs. The Chapter master; Taelios, was favoured by the Chaos gods, he became a almighty Daemon Prince, fighting for the glory of chaos.

The Talon Guard employed many tactics before the rebellion, the most renown of them all is there implication of Hit and Run tactics, but many of the Warband changed their ways, as their gods demanded, but some still Employ the chapter's orignal tactics. The Talon Guard are a young Warband, still adapting to the new life style of space-faring raiders and seek the eternal glory of daemonhood...

I haven't decided on stuff like what to put on their armour, they look like word bearers and i might put flames or something on the armour (don't know yet) I will make my Daemon Prince Weild the howling Talon which will look AWESOME

Thanks in advance guys!
