Hello Everybody!

Right, i'm gonna cut straight to the chase.

I've recently ordered a DKOK commissar from FW and i have no idea how i'm going to paint him and other DKOK models i intend to buy.

I've looked at WWI uniforms and i like the idea of blueish grey colour for the fatigues and possibly the trench coat. A kinda greyish or black colour for the helmet, and a dark brown for the mask and other leather areas.

Now if i had enough models i could skip asking for help and attempt to find a scheme i like through trial and error, but as this is the only model i will have that i can possibly try this on, i don't want to ruin it as my painting skills aren't too great, and i need the help with the whole idea of what colours fit what i've said best and what colours i should use to wash, highlight, drybrush ect.

Phew...thanks to anyone that can be of any assistance. Oh, and i know i've said a paint scheme that i'd like, but if anyone has allready painted DKOK and will share their secrets i will hapily paint them like that instead

Thanks all

Gathering the Informations.

Well, Commissars are without exception dressed in black.

The only leeway for color you'll get on a Commissar is the brocade on his commissar hat+jacket, and the leather stormcoat...which all amounts to the Commissars being kind of a bad testbed for models.

If you dont paint it black you will be executed for Heresy, but on a serious note I think it is one of the best FW guard models.

Yeah, but i'm planning on getting some more DKOK in the next few weeks.

And i'd completely forgot that commissars are dressed in black XD But it would help if anyone could help with the highlighting side of things....what colours should i use on the commissar? to highlight the blacks, reds ect

Thanks again guys ^^

BUT...

There is a tear in the jacket, the right eye is a bubble and overall he model don't lok so good :/

But i am going to fix this with an eye patch of GS and the tear can just be from batle...so all is not lost, but i'm still dissapointe with FW

Call them and tell them, they wont learn if people don't complain. But I could understand a kreig commissar being a little beaten up.

Welli've allready built it, but i will tell hem anyway...and by the loks of it if i just paint the right eye black or metalic it'll look like an eye patch sort of thing without the need for GS

Trust me. Phone them about it. You're in the UK too. I had a minor issue with one of my FW Kriegsmen and phoned them and had a full replacement within 5 days no questions asked, you wouldn't even have to send it back.

Gathering the Informations.

Indeed. Calling them and informing them of the issue means they'll be aware of a potential issue. If you still have the baggie with the batch number, give them that as well since it helps them narrow down where to look for potential issues in sales.

Gathering the Informations.

Again: you won't have to send it back. But letting them know this kind of stuff is a good thing, because it means they can check batch #'s and nail down whatever happened with those issues.

Right, will be phoning FW soon, not sure when as i have no phone line....but soon.

In the meantime i have started to paint my commissar (finaly)
The jacket will stay black with a red inside, black boots and cap with a red band. Gold chest detail and greyish fatigues to go with the rest of my non existant DKOK.
Will post pic when i finaly get him properly started.

I have had past experience with Forge World customer service and I have to admit it is top-notch.

Although this was years ago I had emailed to complain that part of my shipment did not arrive. No questions asked and they resent me all the parts that did not arrive. I was amazed and thankful for such prompt, excellent customer service.

However, I do fear people take advantage of their goodwill, which could explain some of their pricing practices.

So yeah, let them know the problem. They won't give you a hassle or anything.

Right, i have painted the model!!!

But it's a bit different......
I decided against black as it wouldn't look right with the rest of my army (not got one yet though lol)

The jacket is grey....so are his fatigues, his hat is also grey, black *shiny* boots, brownish gas mask....His one eye is a bright green and the sword is, well, metal lol

Will hopefully have some pics of him up on here in the near future ^^

I demand pictures!!!! Or respectivly ask for them, whichever works better.

From a fluff standpoint DoK commisars stand apart from the DoK, since they never came from the planet Krieg. A commisar in a DoK army should, accourding to fluff, be a standard commisar...

I decided against black due to the nature of the warzone the 131st will be fighting in....apocalyptic nuclear winter XD

So i thought the commissar may like to be just as camoflaged as his men lol

Commisars need no camoflague, for their courage is their sheild!

Tell that to the one eyed commissar XD

But anyway, my painting aint perfect, but i think it's at a good standard.

I pretty buch just painted it block colours, washed seperate parts and then drybrushed most of it, and i think it came out pretty good, might be able to get picture on here tomorrow ^^

If you want the traditional grey Death Korps, a base of either codex grey or adeptus battlegrey gets you quite close.

Use adeptus battlegrey if you want Death Korps very similiar to the ones in the IA book (especially if you don't want to use an airbrush) and codex grey for a much lighter greatcoat.

Here's one of my own Death Korps painted using the codex grey base. Brown fatigues and gasmasks also go very well with this sort of scheme.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Well... my Krieg are painted in a Trench type of colour scheme...

The picture is blurry because my phone camera isn't all that great, but I guess you can see clearly enough.

Here is the picture:
(Note that the Aquilas are red. why? Because the Imperium ''betrayed'' them, by not sending them any supplies, reinforcements, or trying to prevent the planet they we're on from being destroyed. When the surviving Korps reported this, they we're labelled as heretics. So, they still have their Imperial Eagles to show their loyalty to the Emperor, but they have dyed it red, to represent that they have been betrayed by the Imperium.)

So, here i am with the camera, with the pictures of my commissar, AND a valkyrie i managed to paint last night. But no cable for the PC.

I might be able to get them on here later, but untill i find the cable where stuck for pictures.

Thanks everyone for posting your ideas and paint schemes, and i love the idea of the red aquilas to show disgust at the imperium.

Wow... I think I've seen that model before... *looks at own painting table* *gasps* copycat!!!

Jokes aside, the model looks really great, and I love the darker red. Also, the green eyes are cool (I made them orange, so our models are a bit diffirent now ).

I would have gone with black, but used your idea on the inside of the Leather jacket. Alternatively, you could make his Black boots super shiny, with a coat of Super Gloss Varnish. It would embody the "Jackboot" oppressive nature of Commissars. I like it as it is, but i think Commissars should stick out as they fear nothing.

I have some puppetswar plague korps, which look like Krieg zombies. I did their coats in a VMC Midnight Blue washed with Paynes Grey. Turned out pretty nice.

When you get around to basing your models make the color around the Commissars base black. That will make him stand out if all of the other models aren't black.
