Howdy all,
So i'm visiting North Carolina for a few weeks to soak up some sun and service my country by sitting in class for 8 hours a day.... so while I'm here I decided theres no better time than to game my ASS off! So I headed up to Hobby Chest here in Jacksonville... and while waiting for some players, decided to do a practice game against myself

Mission: Capture and Control ( 2 objs)
Deployment: Dawn of War
Blood angels win the roll off and choose to let the dark eldar go first....
NOTE: I didn't take pics of this particular match due to the fact that, well... its a self test game. Sorry!
Deployment
Nothing is deployed on either side; both forces reserve. The
DE objective is placed in some ruins on one corner of the board, the
BA objective is pretty much in the exact same area behind some ruins on the other side. I roll thirst on my terminators and 1 squad of marines.
Afterthoughts
For the Dark Eldar my plab is simple; keep wyches near the objective with most of my
AT, while trying to get close and control the angels objective. The angels will go for the throat, sending my ravens at the Eldar objective to contest with probably some marines. I'll combat squad so I have 4 instead of 2 troops. Here goes!
Dark Eldar Turn 1
Movement: Everything comes on the board. I move all 3 ravagers into the back corner, huddling behind ruins for cover/
LOS. I move on a haemi raider as well as a normal wych raider and both venoms around the ruins. Everything tries to hide as best it can! My other 3 raiders flat out 18" or so up the board, staying just out of melta range.
Nothing to shoot or assault.
Blood Angels Turn 1
Movement: Everything comes on the board! 3 combat squads of marines huddle around the objective. Both fearless combat squads and 1 of my others. Both ravens flat out toward the ruins the
DE are heavily entrenched in. My other combat squad follows the ravens and all 3 speeders come in facing off against his 3 raiders. I move 1 speeder to give me cover on the other two while allowing me to shoot them.
Shooting: I open up and roll well for my nightfighting! However... I only manage to stun his haemi raider by his objective.... Everything else runs.
Afterthoughts
My opening salvo really sucked... I think all my
AC's hit but I only got 1 result that got through. All my speeder
MM's missed... bleh. The
DE are in an awesome position to rape my tanks this turn! For the
DE my plan is to go all out on the ravens to get them down, then just outrun the contents and kill them off. My 3 raiders on my left side shouldn't have much of an issue with 15 marines and 3 speeders!
Dark Eldar Turn 2
Movement: My trueborn get out of their venoms and move into the second story of the ruins, great
LOS on one of the ravens. Both venoms shuffle left to unload on one of the combat squads. My non-stunned raider by the objective just shuffles, getting a good aim at a raven. All 3 ravagers spread out, 2 aiming at 1 raven, and 1 aiming at the other in case all my blasters fail.... On my left side I debate what to do with those 3 raiders and decide I can get the charge with 1 of my wyche squads, but the other 2 would have to boost. I move up one raider (only 7 wyches inside, no chars) and disembark. Both my other raiders shuffle to get clear
LOS on speeders; if I can at least stun them, they're out of the picture for a turn which will allow my archon to get in there and mop up the other marines.
Shooting: So starting with my blasters; 4/6 miss, the other 2 fail to do anything to my raven. My wyches
DL misses. The ravager manages 2 pens and blows a
MM off the one everyone else shot at. Both the other ravagers manage to pen twice, one getting through cover, and blow off its
MM as well... well that sucked. Should have at least taken ONE down! Ok... so both venoms unload in a 5 man squad and after saves (remember, they don't have
FNP) I kill the 3 normal guys leaving the melta and
TH... Ugh. My wyches fleet, easily in range of the 5 man squad squatting on the objective. On my left I open up with lances and manage to shake 1 speeder....
Assault: I charge the wyches into the 5 man squad. Miraculously I only kill 3 guys... and then the marines swing: 4 hits, 4 wounds.... I fail 3, tying combat. Really...?
Blood Angels Turn 2
Movement: My left raven (shaken/no melta) moves up 12" and spits out my dread and termis. Termis aiming for one of the trueborn in the building, the dread aiming at the wyches squatting on the objective if I can blow open their ride. Meph gets out of the other raven and moves up 12" over the ravagers, aiming at the stunned wych raider. The raven he got out of shuffles back 6" or so, ready to unload on a ravager. My 5 man combat squad on that side moves up. My remaining 2 man squad moves up to engage the venoms, while my 5 man squad moves to help his beleagered partners. The shaken speeder turbos 24" behind a building and the other 2 shuffle and have some great shots on the archons raider.
Shooting: My speeders manage to explode the archons ride, killing 1 wych. My leftmost raven unloaded and blows up a ravager. My middle raven explodes the wych raider on the objective, killing 4 with the explosion! Meph pistols the stunned wych raider and manages to.... stun it again. My melta in the middle of the board gets a glance on a venom, stunning it. My melta squad by the ravagers gets a glance and stuns another ravager. (Please note: yes, I'm failing this many flickerfield saves....)
Assault: Meph charges and blows up his raider, killing no wyches. They pass pinning. The dread charges into the 3 wyches from the wrecked raider and... kills none. They fail to stick a grenade. My terminators fail their
DT to get to the trueborn. My other 5 man squad charges in to help my 2 man squad... after blows are struck both ways, my 2 man squads down to 1 guy and theres 3 wyches left. We stick.
Afterthoughts
Things are going baddddd for the dark eldar... I'm down to 2 raiders, 1 ravager, and 1 venom that can shoot this turn. Plus I didn't get rid of EITHER raven.... ugh. My plans changed to: KILL THE TROOPS! If I can kill all the angels troops then the most I can do is play for a draw with the angels. As for the angels, the plan remains the same; destroy everything near his objective and try and contest my own if possible. I still have 2 troops over by my ob jective and 3 speeders; shouldn't be hard!
Dark Eldar Turn 3
Movement: My remaining full raider moves up 12" with my archons group, ready to destroy the rest of the angels troops holding the objective. My empty raider shuffles to shoot a speeder. My one mobile ravager shuffles to get
LOS on the middle two guys. My mobile venom moves and aims at mephiston. One of my trueborn squads move out of the ruins so the terminators have to choose which squad to go for (they could have easily gotten a multi off if I'd stayed up a level). My haemi splits off my wyches in the crater, running away so he doesn't hurt the combat.
Shooting: I manage to kill off the remaining two guys in the middle, even though it took 3 blasters and 3 dark lances... All the rest of my shooting fails to do much.
Assault: Both the wyches and archon group charge and dominate the marines on the objective. They consolidate, but they're pretty clustered up... which sucks, because only 2 have
FNP! The wyches charge meph and after all is said and done meph takes 1 wound and only 4 wyches are left. They stay locked. My dread flubs again, and the wyches flub.
Blood Angels Turn 3
Movement: Both ravens move to shoot at the stuff on my objective, moving flat out. All 3 speeders move and get into flame range of all the juicy wyches on my objective. My termis move toward the bottom level trueborn; in a miscalculation, I didn't realize if they rolled a 6 for terrain they could charge the stunned venom as well... oops. My 5 man group moves to shoot at the mobile ravager.
Shooting: Both ravens combined with the 3 flamers kill off all of 1 squad, 4 of another, and 2 from the archons squad. They pass morale. My combat squad manages to glance the other ravager, stunning that as well.....
Assault: My termis dominate the venom and 3 man trueborn squad. In a funny twist; the trueborn took out a
LC termi
lol. My dread finally kills 2 wyches and the last one runs off. Meph kills 1 wych, and they do 3 wounds in return!!!!! Mephhy sticks it through.
Afterthoughts
Well, the
DE are basically done for. They have 2 raiders, 2 ravagers, a few wyches, and a haemunculi left. Poor vehicle damage rolling really killed it... however, I can still pull off at least a draw. Need to kill off those 5 combat marines! The angels are basically in mop up mode; kill off whatever they get close to and let the combat squad move toward the objective.
Dark Eldar Turn 4
Movement: Both remaining raiders move to shoot speeders. The now unstunned ravager moves to shoot my combat squad, as do the trueborn in the ruins still. The archons group spreads out more. The 2 wyches left from the other squad try and make a last strike on a speeder; gonna go down in glory!
Shooting: The combined blasters and ravager manage to kill all but the melta guy from the combat squad (oh, the remaining venom contributed here). The two raiders fail to do anything to the speeders.
Assault: My two wyches do nothing to the speeder. Meph mops up his wyches finally.
Blood Angels Turn 4
Movement: Ravens move to shoot the remaining raiders. Speeders move to flamer whatever they can. Meph goes to charge the venom. The dread moves to charge the hamei. My terminators move to charge the trueborn. My last marine moves onto the objective.
Shooting: I wreck the last 2 raiders and kill the 2 man wych squad. I also kill a couple more from the archons group.
Assault: I stun the last venom with meph, my dread kills the haemi, terms kill the trueborn at the cost of 1 terminator (trueborn killed 2 termis... they're champs)
At this point I called it; another guy had shown up and wanted to get a game in. The
DE only had 2 ravagers, an archon, a venom and 3 wyches left, against almost all of the
BA army. I would have probably killed the last marine, but in the process the furioso in the raven, combined with all the firepower, by the
BA objective would have easily secured it. If anything, the
DE might have been tabled on 6!
BA 1 (1 marine!) -
DE 0 (contested by 2 speeders)
VICTORY TO THE BLOOD ANGELS!!!
Afterthoughts of the game
Dark Eldar: Ouch.... Luck mostly caused a pretty equal game to go completely one sided. Thinking if over afterward I'm thinking it might have been a wise choice to just huddle on my objective and let the
BA come to me; I could have concentrated more firepower into the ravens, and he would have at least 1 more turn before he could have done REAL damage to me. Plus, if mephy had such a hard time with 1 wych squad, 2 could have probably turned the tide! In the end I learned quite a bit and know now how to face a force at least as mobile as I am. As well, I'm realizing not having twin linked REALLY sucks for lances... I think I missed around 50% of my lances.
Blood Angels: Well, I learned I need to spread out and protect my troops a little more. Down to just 1 marine at the end, and I doubt his luck would hold up! Either way, my plan worked well; go for the throat as usual. The list is still uber durable!
Hope you enjoyed it and look forward to my other games here in NC!
