On our way back from school, my friend brought up the topic of power weapons. I explained to him that they are kinda like lightsabers (since they have a power field and can cut through fraggin' anything) and all sorts of other stuff.

Anyway, he wondered if two of the same power weapons collide, with theirs fields activated, what would happen? Would they spark and connect like lightsabers? Would they repel each other like magnets?

Also, he compared the Thunder Hammer to the Gravity Hammer from the Halo franchise. He also wondered if two Thunder Hammers collided, what would happen?

PM me if you want me to draw anything related to Warhmmer 40k. I will put it in my gallery for all to see.

I would imagine it would spark a lot. And on the subject of Thunder Hammers, there would probably be a big thunder clap along with the sparks.

It would tear a hole in the space-time continuum. LOL

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

Just like when two lightsabers clash, sparks fly and a cool sound effect.

It would be awesome that's for sure!

I imagine either sparks and the energy that flows around the blade would be mpre focused at the point of contact with the other energy field, as IMO it would still try to cut through this 'object'

Power weapons are surrounded by a disruption field. The field generated will disrupt matter severing the molecular "bonds" of a material at molecular level.

If you had two such fields come into contact with one another, they would most likely bounce away from each other, like two magnets of the same polarity, neither one can enter the other's field for any length of time without being forced apart.

So...Magnets.

There are mentions in the fluff of superior weapons shorting out or cutting through inferior ones. Ibram Gaunt's blade, the Sword of Heirnoymo Sondar, is a millennia old relic and far superior to most. In one book it overpowers a weaker weapon and partially penetrates it's power field.

I don't think they have super incredible fields around them, so they'd probably repel weakly when hit (but a space marine's arm is strong, so perhaps they'd like, be able to hold them a few millimeters next to each other or something like that).

When thunderhammers collide, thor descends to give out candy.

It is a mystery how power weapons actually work. They are different to las and plasma weapons in that sense. After all, we know that plasma weaponry is possible to create. Plasma bound by an electromagnetic field into a sort of 'beam' shape. And las weaponry is self explanatory. But power? No.

Comparing thunder hammers to gravity hammers is a bit different. Somehow the power weapon "blocks" electromagnetic fields, I think that is rather unrealistic. But hell, it is science-FICTION. Unlike the gravity hammer that, ironically, does the opposite. Sending out waves of electromagnetic energy. And if the thunder hammer 'blocks' magnetic energy and a gravity hammer uses magnetic energy, so meaning if the two collided then the gravity hammer would just whirr a bit and the magnetic blast would not be there to stop the epic thors hammer from smashing straight through it.

1:0 to 40k on the Halo vs 40k debate.

Although comparing power swords from them both is cheese to chalk. The plasma based power sword from halo is far from similar to the power sword as the power sword works in the same way as the thunder hammer.

Was it not inquisitor Iesenhorn who used a power sword that was basically a foot long stick that projected a beam shaped disruption field that comes to a neat stop at the end. I can't think where those writers got their inspiration from eh?

But, as I quote from 'some guy'. Bolters kill jedis and ninjas equally.
