White Wolf Twitter for Gencon
For the worked blocked..
Richard Thomas, WW staff wrote:#WWGenCon we announced new VtM books coming and Werewolf the Apocalypse Twentieth Edition next year. And the missing Mage Convention books.
Now thats out the way, yeah, huge news for me, and many like minded fans that I have shared my dismay of the ending of WtA over the years, good to see it back in some form.
Looking at this news, number one, Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th anniversary editiion is a must purchase for me, really stoked about this, as it is my favourite published system by a mile.
However number two and the shocking thing here, after all their denials, concrete certainty that it will never happen. Is the announcement that not only will the missing Convention books for Mage the Ascension be finally published, but all new Vampire the Masquerade books as well.
The latter being huge news as they swore blind even with V20 on the cards last year, it would never happen. I must admit, I was kinda hoping this would happen, from the preorders of V20 I have seen being mentioned, it would seem crazy not to jump on that gravy train of fans lapping it up, and it seems White Wolf could not resist.
So lets thank Gaia for that, and hopefully now, for me at least, the nwod can be but a bad memory as White Wolf potentially returns to the setting that helped make their mark on the RPG industry.
Yeah, I'm chuffed right now.

Haven't seen anything concrete, I'd guess the same sort of timeframe as V20, so in line with the Grand Masquerade in September next year. It's a bit of a wait, but I am sure it will be well worth it.

As I understand it, the makers of EVE merged with White Wolf and basically told them to start up VtM and the other older games again.
About fething time, Requiem is bloody awful. I didn't spend several hundred pounds getting VTM books only to be told 'your entire game is defunct'.

Aye, I'd agree with your thoughts there MGS.
It seems no mere coincidence, we have this announcement, barely a year after CCP broke the news the MMO was going to VtM based, not VtR.

I actually never played White Wolf games until their most recent incarnations, and I've played nWoD, Requiem, Forsaken, Awakening, and started to write a Chronicle for Promethean: the Created but never really went anywhere with it.
Most people I talk to say the old systems were better, and I do like me some Malkavians, so I will definitely check this out.

My understanding is that the RULES were better, but few people liked the back ground. The setting was... well, amusing, moreso for vamp than the others, but yeah, what people REALLY wanted was a streamlined Storyteller system, not a whole new world.
That said, I have derived PLENTY of enjoyment from the Apoc and Gehenna books, and I'm glad that they were published. I guarantee WW gets more of my money once they start republishing their city sourcebooks and Freak Legion again.
As far as LARP rules go (for those of you who are that nerdy) I found the rules INFINITELY preferable to the old RPS system of adjudication, especially as games could be taken directly from TT and LARPed and vice versa.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

I like the Nwod for low powered games; I like the simpler rules a lot of the time, and frankly it has some really good supplements. As far as the settings - I tend to mix some of the WoD in, the degree varies from game to game. VtR is fine by my book - I ignore most of the bloodlines, and it's fine.
WtF I just didn't enjoy anywhere near as much as WtA - I like some of the rules and some of the ideas - like the whole maintaining the separation of spirit and physical world; but I could never find a good story I wanted to run, nothing gripped me like the awesomeness of fighting Pentex and the BSD.
I will say that I hands down prefer the new Changeling for the characters, but I do change some of the meta stuff and put them into freeholds somewhat reminiscent of CtD. Promethean I haven't tried; Mage... maybe its the wrong people, but I've never been able to get a good Mage going, old or new.
I'm really interested in Geist and DtF. It's never worked out schedule wise to start Geist, and I'm afraid to run a Demon game with more than like 3 players.

I'm actually a little disappointed to hear that the next game is going to be Mummy. Not that I don't like Mummy, but I really want Demon. What little I've seen of the old game was pretty cool. Perhaps in 2013.

This is great news. I really wish that I would have known that they released V20, because that's my game of choice, and I've apparently missed the pre-order window for it. Still, at least I'll have a chance to pick up Werewolf.

I am not a big fan of the WW game lines, but I always wondered if the big problem with the nWoD was that it wasn't different enough.
Vampires in both still have big house/clan affiliations. Some of them even closely resemble previous generation versions, enough so that I've seen people say "X are the new Y". It seemed to be enough that people were treating the new game as if it were a knock-off of the old.
I've heard the werewolves were treated much the same. They're still organized in a pack/tribe structure and still feel they're big important 'police' for the spiritual world, albeit in a very different way.
I wonder if they should have blown it up and gone to the roots of the respective lores. Vampires only rarely create others of their kind, and the bloodlines are much, much smaller and tighter. There's no governance they really obey, but maybe a few 'sects' (membership optional) actively work to hide the existence of the undead (Sort of vampire MiB). Vampires are closer to myth, and tend to become inhuman in appearance and manner if they don't feed on humans, but they remain youthful and good looking if they do while sacrificing their humanity. They're not powerful creatures that rule the night, they're cursed things seeking to deal with their horrible circumstances.
Similar treatment for the werewolves. Lycanthropy is just a supernatural disease. Some may learn some magic, but there's no 'umbra' and some werewolves may have nothing to do with spirits and such. The core of being a werewolf is that the character is no longer part of humanity, but can't exist fully int he wilds, either. Werewolves desire packs, so they tend to cling to family and friends, at least until they realize they just aren't capable of dealing with the normal world. The lucky ones (Player character plot hook!) end up finding a few of their own kind and form a loose and chaotic pack seeking to hold down jobs and deal with other random problems while trying to dance between humanity and the wild.
