Sons of Sek

Hi!

I started painting some weeks ago, but haven’t done much because of summer vacation. Now everything is back to normal and I will be starting to paint for real now.
=I=munda really got me inspired and I will start playing that if possible.

I have chosen to create this blog to motivate myself to continue on the painting, getting feedback, constructive criticism and general support to continue paining.

A bit about myself: I’m 22 years old, live with my dog in Copenhagen Denmark. I am a vegan for 2 years now and see myself as anarchist/non-political. Also am I a student and live off that, so don’t have so many money to support my hobby at this moment.

What you will see from me: Sons of Sek for now.

Bear in mind I only just begun.

Here are some images:

I won’t write much here unless people encourage me to it.

So I finished this guy. Right now I'm just painting for learning. But I guess he could be a veteran sergeant with a power weapon.
Pretty happy with how he turned out, I can definitely see progression.
I was thinking about giving him some highlights with elf flesh, but I am afraid of ruining him. I also still need to paint the base edge again.

Comment and Critics welcome.

Fiiiiinally I'm done with this guy. He gave me such a headache, and I still just want to through him into a jar of acetone.

The other miniatures I have painted felt like a step forward, this guy just felt like failure. I think he is ugly. Well, learning by doing.
I am getting pretty tired of the SM scouts and think I am going to paint some of random metal minis for a change.
I hope that I soon can buy some cadians and try something with them.

I am going to invest in some new paints, but I have to decide my paint scheme first.

I have been thinking a lot of going with this scheme: http://a-tacs.com/

But my fluff plan is to make them come from a more humid mountain range with more greys and darker greens, and also some snow.

More like this:

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/204/2/3/2342e0cfcb34dd7be30e0db6330c7579.jpg

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/353/4/6/river_in_the_mountains_by_jonny_island-d356z00.png

Yea, I think you got the idea by now.

I am looking to buy at least one foundation as main colour, and three to four colours to layer and make camouflage patterns. I have to consider that I use a badab black wash in the end, so they get a bit darker.

Any suggestions to what colours I should get?

And which of pattern I should go for?

Pictures or links appreciated.

So silence..?
I have been playing too much DoW, and now I finally got two more painted.
A missile launcher guy and a melee dude.

Missile Launcher:

Melee:

I started doing the production line way of painting them. All five one colour at a time, but it drove me mad and I started painted them singly again. This may not be the quickest way, but it let me do them more justice.

I'm ordering for around 90£ on wayland games in the end of the month and will get some proper tools.

(I know the missile launcher scout have mould lines.)
All comments and critics are more than welcome.

Thank you Commander Cain and Hindenburg. Means a lot to get some positive feedback, really encourage a guy like me to keep painting.

So a small update.
This is the newest guy on the block..

Might want to add some colour to them. Maybe make the tube on the armor or the imperial symbol a different color? Just to add something to look at.

(Also a bit off topic, I just want to say that we share the same view of politics and food, although I'm vegetarian and not vegan. Yet. Thumbs up for you.)

*Waking from his deep slumber*

Days have drifted by and I have had my minds elsewhere (heresy I tell you!), but now I'm back to painting again.

I got a order home from wayland games so I finally can start my Rzakata Legion! I have made a single guy so far.

New Stuff:

Rzakata Ranger (bad light):

I can't decide if I should do highlights on him and if I should, then where.

Comment & criticism is welcome.

When I get the time I will update the first post, so keep an eye out.

Good stuff so far. I would suggest highlighting the hard edges of the armor and the gun if you decide. They might not need it though. Keep it up!

I think I will highlight the armour and the lasgun, aswell as the boots might get a quick touch.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

So here is some more pics of the Rzakata Ranger.
I changed the base to look like moss and some rocks.
Lots of pictures.

Do I miss something on him or does he needs anything?

Anyone who can guess now what he is?

He needs some facelifting, and I feel he needs something more but I don't know what. Any suggestions?

First off, I'll say that you're really quite good for just starting out. Way better than I was. I had no idea what highlights were back when I first started. Secondly, that Rzakata Ranger looks much better with the new base. It seemed to me he was leaning too far back on the first base and he was going to fall over. This new base looks much more balanced. I have no idea who the yellow dude is though, sorry.

He is a son of Sek, nice attention to detail with the hand over his mouth.
My only suggestion would be to change the hand around so the fingers are pointing upwards. Nice job on the camo , very good for starting off, maybe a wash of Devlan mud.

Bunnygurl: Yea, he looked only right from one angle. So it did a lot to change the base. Thank you.

IdentifyZero: Thanks, he actual looks huge compared to the Rzakata Ranger.

Inquisitive Inquisitor: Bingo, you are correct! I have considered to turn the hand upwards, but I felt there wasn't enough room and this was my initial imagination of the Sons of Sek.

VI th legion: Thank you.

Neil101: Thank you. I photo with the minidiorama because else it seems like the white background destroys the balance. I will try to use them next time. Thank for the links.

What do you think of the Son of Sek base?

So I have run into a "serious" problem. I need around 90 modern combat axes to my Rzakata 8th.

Something like these:

&

I have looked through every games workshops products without luck and on several conversions websites. I saw some on ebay a few months back, but they are gone now.

Any suggestion to where I could find what I need? Really need some help with this one!

Also if I'm going to buy armour from Tamiya should I go for 1/35 or 1/48 scale?

Thanks in advanced!

So here are some more pictures.

I gave the Son of Sek a face lift and took a photo of him with the Ranger to show that he is somewhat bigger. The picture failed that apparently. But he is bigger than the standard cadian.

Also I finished a new Rzakata Ranger, and here he is.

And now I have played with some greenstuff and getting ready to paint two more rangers.

Comments and Criticism is very welcome!

I wanted to remove the paint from all the scouts I had painted so I could reuse the parts into Rzakata and Sons of Sek.
I left them in a jar of nail remover (without aceton).

I shouldn't have done that. They smeared out and bulged up. They are forever destroyed! Buhuuu!

Not fun when you are low on money already.

Here is some "lore" and pictures from me. I finally got this finished and I feel a great success. There was a time when I got really angry, the Bike just wouldn't stick to the base. But I got it.
Now enjoy.

The Rzakata Swift Expedition Bike (also known as SEB)

The SEB is armed with several blessing from the Adeptus Mechanicus. The first and most important is the engine which is surrounded by specific noise dampers, which decrease the sound and heat from the engine to a minimum, which also makes it very hard to see on thermal imaging. The engine is turbo charged and can reach a speed at 300 km per hour (on flat terrain). In difficult terrain is where the bike really shows its value. The SEB can drive through all kinds of terrain from high mountains to water filled swamps. The wide tires ensure a good grip on whatever surface the SEB needs to go over. The SEB is armed with either twin-linked bolters or a grenade launcher both of them attached with an infrared scope to increase aim and chance of hit. A strong auspex is installed on the bike to inform the driver on nearby targets and can send the data to other squads to inform them on enemy position. A vox-caster is equipped on the bike so even from great distances the driver can relay information to other squads, making the SEB ideal for scouting missions. The entire bike has been given a camoline coating hiding it in all types of terrain, on the move or if it’s sitting still, the SEB is a silent and fast killer ready to spring its trap on unaware opponents.

Here are some WIP pictures of the bike.

Hope you all like it, and as always comments and constructive criticism is very welcome!

I like your Ranger! I've never seen anyone put a scout visored head on a Cadian body before. I like the tech-y look it gives!

What army list are you playing them as? Can't quite figure it out since you've got SM scouts, IG troopers, and Renegade troopers all together
