Heya everybody! I'm going to be starting up fantasy soon, and VC is one of the armies I'm leaning towards. But for the most part I don't care for a lot of the lord and hero models, which is problematic. Are there any other miniature vampires that would work for fantasy, and also look a lot better? Thanks in advance!

The best thing to remember is Vampires look like their host race. So human. Any human model will do - for example, a lot of Blood Knights come from Brettonia, so using Brettonians and doing a bit of conversion work is pretty fitting.

I can't recall is Warhammer Vampires can turn other races.

Untrue.

The "Blood Knights" are so named because they're the knights of the Order of the Blood Dragon, and hailed from a Keep in the Empire that guards the passes to Bretonnia. It's kind of interesting to see exactly how close to Nuln Blood Keep is.

It's kind of a retcon from how Walach turned an unnamed Knightly Order and then built up his forces with Bretonnians, Norsemen, Imperials, Tileans, etc. As long as they were formidable fighters, they were turned.

Yeah I've seen the Avatars of War one, I might look at that one. The reaper one isn't too bad either. But now that I know that about the fluff (I haven't bought the army book yet just been looking at online PDFs that have the bestiary or whatever) I might just have to convert my own sweet Lord

For an 'on foot' generic Lord with sword/shield I'm using an old Blood Dragons model. They aren't terribly priced, and if you do some gimmicky work with the Ghoulking model from the Terrorgeist kit, a tombstone and skulls/bones from the Zombie and Ghoul kits you can get a great and characterful looking bestial Vampire.

I'm using the Avatars of War female vampire model, as well as the female vampire model GW makes (snip off her hands and replace them with plastic ghoul hands and she looks really good)... I just wish GW would gift us with a new Isabella Von Carstein to go with all the other new Von Carsteins they gave us.

Though I have seen a really sweet Isabella conversion made with a 40K female Inquisitor model as the base... check out http://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-My-undead-conversion for images and a parts list.

I haven't used any Reaper minis for my VC army, but a lot of them do look nice, and many of them are on foot (which seems to be how most VC players field their vamps). They have their own miniatures game (featuring several sinister looking human models that could double as vamps) so a lot of their models come with tabs to insert them into standard GW slotta bases.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

Another thing that would work would be High Elf/Dark Elf models as their heads are rather narrow and gaunt which could easily pass for a vampire (not to mention some have cool helmets). Using the commander box for the High Elves and Dark Elves would be a good place to try. My buddy is using Dragon Princes as his blood knights (since blood knights are ridiculous $ wise).

And because your going vampires I have to say this...be sure to put LOTS and LOTS of glitter on them, girls just may totally start liking you more for that!

Another vote for reaper, they have a lot of nice looking vampires and cover pretty much any build in the vampire book from wizards to armored knights to deranged ghoulkin

Anyways thanks for the suggestions guy, that Astorath conversion is really interesting gotta say I never thought of that. Might buy a Reaper mini or two. I want to make sure each one of my vampires is unique instead of having like 4 of the same model haha.

Hopefully the Vampire bits from the new zombie dragon will make their way onto ebay so that we can finally start kitbashing our own vampires to be unique instead of the crap selection GW has. EVERY army deserves a plastic character kit.

There's actually a good female vampire alternative floating around out there that rivals the Avatars of War sculpt, from Mad Puppet Miniatures.

Spoiler:

My main problem has been finding a good model to represent Neferata.
