Ghost Knights. Basic squad as I run them is 3 halberds and 2 hammers. I also did 5 guys with swords for any that might show up during the game. These were fun to paint and went together quick. This is my first attempt at Obvious Source Lighting... I see room for improvement, but i am happy with the results so far.

Next up is their Boss-man, Mordrak.

Very cool looking. What's the story behind the whole Ghost Knight thing?

The colors work pretty well, I think. Remind me of the unforgiven soldiers from under the mountain in The Return of the King.

Used an airbrush here? Or what technique did you use?

Really quick and dirty version... Huron came to one GK outpost and slaughtered everyone but GM Mordrak. From the Point on Mordrak has had survivor's guilt about the situation and started subconsciously, psychically manifesting his dead brothers to fight with him.

The army under the mountain was exactly the look I was going for. I had a bit of a time though trying to decide between that look and force spirits from Star Wars(blue ghosts instead of green). I finally went for LotR because they look a lot more GRIMDARK! even though I love star wars more.

Yeah... they were done with an airbrush. I am still kind of learning how to do anything more than just base coating with it. The VGC Neon green I used for the glow effect was probably one of the worst colors I have ever used going through an airbrush. The pigments just act weird no matter what you are doing with it. They are clumpy, gooey, and just kind of remind me of instant pudding before you set it in the fridge for it to set up.

Thanks for all the comments.

Aww man, your ghost knights look nice! Maybe weather or beat up their armour a little, cause they were killed and all!

But overall, your models are awsome!

TBH - they look excellent - may I make one teeeensy itsy bitty observation?

Do the eyes Blue - with a white centre, sort of like an internal 'glow' - might break up the overall 'greeness' - YMMV.

But very nice work

I want to do that but no matter how much I practice, and I have been painting for close to 15 years now, I can not do that. Bad eyesight and shakey hands are not a good combo for painting eyes.

Vallejo Game Colour would be Sombre Grey (048) .

Article hasn't been updated extensively lately, but it's fairly accurate.

Yeah... I use that chart quite extensively... Im at work though... so I will have to check what I started out with when i get home.

Going off the top of my had though, I want to say it was...

VGC/GW
Cold Grey/codex Grey
Stonewall/Grey/Fortress grey
Ghost Grey/Ghastley Gray(oop)

From there I gloss sealed it to protect the airbrush work, but I forgot to matte seal it which was almost a problem when it came to washing. Washes were APJ Green wash applied with an airbrush to give the next wash soemthing to flow over and then APJ Algea wash. The APJ washes were self mixed using the recipes that Les posted here.

A pait of quick dryblushes with Stonewall and Ghost grey and then it was on to the sword.

Sword was done with black, white Flourescent green and alot of tape. Eyes and OSL effect were done with flourescent green. A darker green was laid in on the eyes and gun barrels before the Flo. green

I love the effect that you've achieved here. I can just imagine them being in near pitch black (thus the muted colors) and the only source of light is their weapons

I do have to agree with Akira, a different color for the eyes might break up the green, but I love this unit.

I think OSL = Objective Source Lighting? Though... your way makes more sense.

Regardless... really cool job. You've really captured that whole shade/specter thing well.

The only thing I'm not sold on is the heavy green glow coming from swords that have almost no green on them. I've tried that kind of sword painting system myself (and you did it very well) and while it looks striking, I don't find it the least bit convincing as a source of "glow". It is however, a really great way of showing differentiation of reflection on non-light emitting objects (like normal weapons).

Grey knights... yes. Ghost knights... no... they are a one per army choice tied to a special character. I am in full swing though in painting up two 2000pt armies. The character that leads them is in progress right now.

This Sticks rather well with the ghastly feeling about these guys. one suggestion, though. why dont you add some smoke effects around the base, to add a misty feeling to their ghastlyness.
