anyway, I am thinking I want to buy a 1200 point army of one of the factions. which factions most favor massed infantry? calvary I like, artillery I like, Magic I can stomach so far as I must, but infantry, I love the infantry. so what would be a good faction for me, and, with said faction, what would I need to get to have a decent 1200 point army (I am no power gamer, mind you, I would just like a fighting chance)
any help is appreacated!

Skaven.
Slaves are 2 points clan rats are a bit more canons less than 100 points nuf said.
They are quite strong might want to take a look at the book.
Maybe a horde marauder army they are like 300 points for 50 of em but worth every point.

By mass of infantry I meant the mass of my points being made up of infantry, not, neccicarily, I would go for fewer kick-ass infantry men just as well as a horde of chepo cannon fodder. so, are marauders more point efficaint than chaos warriors? are slaves more efficiant than clanrats and storminvermin? also, is infantry heavy a viable choice with empire and Orcs?

Woc warriors they be bad ass.

Warriors and marauders serve different rolls.

Marauders are there to make the enemy feel good about themselves because every wound is more or less a dead marauder since they have no armor.
They usually do a good job of holding a unit in place for a turn or 2 and grinding them down.
Where as warriors are supposed to come in rip everything to shreds and repeat.

Marauders with gw are only 5 points. a units of 50 as i said 300 points gives you 41 ws4 str 5 attacks with itp.

But if you want to run masses run marauders with a unit fo halberd warriors with the flaming banner that will take care of any regen

I would say Empire is not a bad choice either.

There Infantry isen't bad and they look prety cool. They got pretty much all you want. Infantry, Cavalry, and Canons for artillary. But i don't know a thing about competitiveness of Empire with infantry/cavalry units.

What i do know is that they got a Strong Gunline that is used alot for compedativ games.

But as you mentioned in your first post your mostly interested in having a infantry/Cavalry/Artillary heavy army then beeing a power game so Empire is good i think

But don't take my word for it. I am also rather new so see what others would suggest before taking my advice atleast .

Orcs have it all, but in the end, it mostly comes down to huge blocks of infantry in my opinion. Be it Orcs, Black Orcs, Goblins or whatever, infantry makes the difference. WHAAAGH!

Pure goblin army to be a little different?

But I think the choices for infantry heavy armies come down to Empire, Orcs and Goblins and Skaven traditionally if you want model count as in WoC we use expensive elite warriors etc as well as the cheap marauders.

Thanks for all the advice! I think I will do the empire, I always have been partial to my own species, and their combined arms approach is really cool. so, I have ordered the battalion set. from where would I go from there?

The mage kit and general/BSB kit possibly so you have some characters knocking around is about as far as I could suggest.
With empire you can really tend towards any style of army you would like

All of the above, plus a couple of cannon/mortar boxes . The General/BSB and Wizard boxes are really nice kits with plenty of extra bits.

Then maybe another battalion box. And you can never have enough state troops (look for deals on bodies on ebay to use up those extra arms). Welcome to the Empire!

Go for Woc, you can run two blocks of 50 for 300ish. attach a hero to one, and make sure to give them GW and MoK. As Cowpow said, Warriors are your gokill everything that moves troops. While marauders simply rip true things over longer priods. Give your warriors Haleberds, shields and the flaming banner and your good to go

If you are interested in how woc the link in my signature (the link down below) has a quick run through of the book and some effective set ups for units.

Marauders die quite fast since they have nor armor but for 5 points its all good.
A horde usually with average or even a bit less than average will still chew through a lot of enemies.
