Subject: Most Defensive Units Possible

Last night I was trying to come up with the hardest-to-kill units possible for cost. Basically, CORE units that can be buffed to the utmost extreme to be protected from EVERYTHING. Post some of your ideas. Can use Heroes, Items, Spells, whatever. But obviously the more expensive that stuff is, the less cost-effective. A max of 500pts for extra heroes and items, or you could just keep adding a zillion heroes. Any casters have to be counted towards the total, even if they can't join the unit. Having the highest Toughness, Initiative (for doooom spells), Wounds, Armor, Ward, Regen, etc is the goal.
-O&G Savage Orcs with Shields (9pts each). Savage Orc Shaman with Lucky Shrunken Head (120). Wurrzag(350). T4,I2,6+armor/4+ ward. Not very cost-effective, but I think it's funny having a 4+ ward on some silly Orcs.
-Lizardmen Saurus Warriors (11pts each). Slann casting Earthbloood (250). Sarus Scar-Veteran with LArmor + shield + Standard of Chotec. T4,I1,4+armor/6+parry/5+regen(4+ with throne of vines but both must be recast every round and can be dispelled), -2 or -1 to hit for range weapons.
Blah, I started WoC, but I got tired...

Mot warriors with shields 3+ armor 6+ ward 5+ ward in cc.
Mot chosen supported with a shrine or 2 basically if you roll well 3+ armor 3+ ward and t5 ws6 with halberds str5 I5 enjoy fighting that.

You will usually invest about 600+ points in them (2.2k and higher) and they basically get the living day light buffed out of them by the war shrines and then they will run around the board and kill everything.

Nope not really kind of lame actually since it takes very little skill its just i hit you harder you dont hurt me and you die next.
It is fun when there is a guy thats trolling about how tough his army is and you throw that at him. Other than that its sort of lame.

Chosen aren't CORE which is one of the requirements. You can make all kinds of silly stuff with Specials/Rares. Stone Trolls with extra Scaly Skin armor. Mournfang Cavalry with Regen.
-Daemon Pink Horrors (11pts) with a Herald with spell Mastery of Metal (120). Casts Glittering Robe on them. T3/I3 5+armor/4+ward.
-Ogre Bulls with Ironfists (32pts). With slaughtermaster casting trollguts, toothcracker. T5/I2/W3 5 5+armor/6+ parry (if regen is off)/4+regen.

If you're allowed to buff a unit to no end, I'd say that a Slann buffing a saurus unit makes for a very hard-to-kill-target. You can get a unit with T7, Armor 4+, 6+ parry, 4+ regeneration. You could use a skink priest to make the enemy hit on -1, which makes it an even tougher unit.. to illustrate: 120 WS3, S3 attacks would kill about two guys..

Hard to Kill?
Horrors, with full command changeling, Skulltaker2 heralds, one life, the other heavens. Use life to heal, increase toughness on unit. Skulltaker gives them MR increases which is a 2+ save vs magic, and drop comets.
I ran this at ardboyz but with fateweaver dropping comets. The unit never died the entire time through all 3 rounds.

I think Vampire Counts would be pretty good at this. Consider a Ghoul unit with a front rank of Cairn Wraith Characters (due to being Ethereal pretty hard to kill for most units in close combat). Perhaps add in Wight King BSB with Drakenhoff Banner, a Lore of Beasts Vampire to buff Thoughness of all Characters (meaning the entire front rank) and use Wyssan's Wildform on the unit and a Lore of Vampires Vampire for Summon Undead Horde (both Vampires can also use Invocation of Nehek).

In the Chaos Wastes, Killing the Chaos scum of the north
|
Tomb king skeletons (4 points each) with a tomb king with a shield and a dragonbane gem (179 points) a tomb herald BSB with banner of the undying legion (125), and a level 3 liche priest (heirophant, 175) The skelles are now WS 6, with a bound spell that brings D6+2 models, every augment cast by the liche priest brings back D3+1, and they have a 6+ regen
