Hey all,

Been lurking on this excellent forum for a while now, having recently returned to the hobby after a long break. Thought I'd take the plunge and share a new project I've recently (possibly unwisely) started.

I'm starting a Sons of Medusa army (my favourite newer chapter). My idea is to represent their unusual armour collecting practices by having every variant of armour available present in the army. I'm going to start with a terminator squad, and my favourite model.

This one (the first I ever remember owning). I'm calling it the MK 1 Terminator suit (though this is not strictly official, its fits)...

Yeah, I'm weird, but hey I like it. Problem is, it's squat and is in a very dull pose. Bascially it will look odd alongside newer models. We must rebuild it; we have the technology...

For reference, alongside the model, I have two images to go on

My plan is to re-model the Mk1 around existing parts. Here are my first efforts (initial milliput mockup).

First, to show the way I'm planning to do the head

Now with shoulders, showing possible placement

That's it so far. Any comments welcomed. Cheers all

Thanks. I will post as I make progress. Today's purchases include lots of plasticard and greenstuff...

And thanks for the welcome, good to have finally posted

Quick update.

Getting the shoulders looking right has proved something of a challenge, but it's getting there I think

Any advice gratefully recieved

I really wish I could see those pics, but the job's firewall doesn't like image hosting services. Try loading to the gallery?

I'm sure I heard some buzz that Forgeworld might be producing early marks of terminator armor to go alongside the Mk3-6 marines and their rhino and landraider conversion kits?

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Done. Sorry, should have done that in the first place

Oh really? I'd be very interested to know more about this. I wonder if they'll go with original GW models (the 'exo' pre-terminator models, like this one) or something else. Intriguing

Looks great, very promising! If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the pauldron rim? I can never get clean lines like that when I'm working with GS, always ends up looking bulgy and uneven...

What's your plan for the head?

Thanks! I used a combination of plasticard guide, forcing myself to let layers set and not do "just a little bit more" and my two secret weapons: nail polisher (comes with an emery board set for nails) and baby oil.

I'm still not entirely happy with this pauldron, there are still bumps to be smoothed, but I'm getting there.

Gavin Thorne wrote:What's your plan for the head?

Good question. The head in there at the moment is something of a place-holder, but I do think I will have a bare head in there in the end (probably with the helmet being held by a servitor - given the Sons of Medusa theme. I plan to have lots of them, and servo skulls, busying themselves collecting armour). The original helmet is kinda boring, for one, and also one of things that got me doing this model is the comments people used to make about the original: "terrible field of vision" etc. I reckon it'd be nice to show that didn't have to be true, by reposing.

Very promising indeed! I did a little research and agree that the suit you are trying to replicate is indeed 'MK1' however, there was a 'MK0' before that, I do not know if they ever made a model for it but it has distinctive roman influences to it.

@Commander Cain Thanks! And thanks for that link. Very useful. I actually think the 'Mk 0' will be much easier to do, since the current terminator plastics can be adapted. I think I might use the Mk 0 for a commander model - lots a room for ornamentation!

@ChorusLucia Thanks! I will post as soon I hope. Waiting for greenstuff to cure is painful, but we all hate fingerprints

Another update, which requires a bit of justification.

Basically, I have been trying to think why you'd want such oversized pauldrons on a terminator. One justification I came up with was for medium range fire fights. So, the idea is that you have improved protection from the extra armour, and the restricted view doesn't matter so much if you are spraying everything in the local area with a barrage of assault cannon fire. So, that's what this guy is going to get.

But with a twist. Because I want the weapon to fit with the tech look of the armour, I've redesigned it a bit. Since this would be to ancient, revered weapon in the chapter (possibly modified and maintained by the War Clan's Iron Thane) I thought it ought to pack a bit extra punch. Hence the chainsaw...

Anyway, here is the WiP

@Kimzi Thanks

I think as it is you'd be best expanding the hips and stance of the model. He looks a little top heavy at the moment and the legs don't look able to support the bulk of the torso...

You're absolutely right. I haven't done any work on the legs and torso yet (I'm working my way down), so all you see at the moment is the stance position. They'll be side pistons (etc) as per the original model, and that should help a lot. Bare in mind also that the bluetack is adding too much height atm. I'm hoping once I'm happy with the pauldrons, the rest will go quicker. After all, they are the most important - well striking - part of the model

Wow! The Terrible Triple Post - a more dastardly cousin of the Dreaded Double Post rears it's head!

Glad to hear you've got it planned out. The pauldrons are definitely the most iconic part of the early tactical dreadnought armour. I'm eagerly awaiting more pics!
