I hesitated posting this, as I'm fairly certain I'll get a lot of 'salt' posts, etc... I'm fairly skeptical about a lot of rumors, but this bit of fact (on GW's website no less), correlates with a common 6th edition rumor already running around... I understand some will say I'm seeing a connections where there are none, but here it is... believe or deny if you wish:
The rumor we've had thus far is that 6th ed will come out around the time of the 2012 Olympics (which start in July)... well this little nugget was on GW's site: Top Secret listed in their Jul-Aug calendar for their Warhammer World Event schedule.

Editions traditionally come out in July, so I think you are spot on. That's exactly what that looks like. 30th of June is a saturday so the release is probably then or the 7th of July.

It could simply be that the standard image they got that from is a 12-month calendar and those two months are just unknown and/or they're unwilling to reveal it.
Even a summer campaign is a possibility.

I think it's safe to say that something is happening this summer.
But, it was already a pretty safe bet the summer would have some big release or event. I don't think this helps or hurts the rumor about 6th.

Does that leave room for 3 Codexes or only 2 for 40k before the new edition? Hoping the Chaos vs. whoever loyalist scum starter box rumor holds true.

It's just a calendar. Do any of the other events tie in witrh release dates? No...
Just because it's 'top secret' doesn't mean it has anything to do with any release at all.
At the same time, if 6th Ed. appears in 2012 then it's guaranteed to be in July. July 7th in fact. With the new box game coming out in September (probably the 1st). GW releases have patterns and are easy to spot if you look at previous years.

I think that's just incidental graphics stuff to dress it up. I wouldn't read into it.

Taking into account the 6th edition rumors already floating around and the fact that it will be the 25th anniversary of 40k in 2012, I have no doubt they will bring out 6th edition this summer. My only concern is if they will bring back Kill Team!

It would indeed be nice. I'd love to see an emphasis on smaller scale, squad level battles as a quick alternative. A refresh of 40k in 40 minutes or something similar.

Yeah, the 4e book was great (apart from the actual rules) in that it had kill team and combat patrol in there. Here's hoping for something similar but with better core rules. Then again, this is GW we're talking about... Automatically Appended Next Post: orz192 wrote:BladeWalker wrote:Does that leave room for 3 Codexes or only 2 for 40k before the new edition? Doubt it. No rumour support and eldar are very fiddly models, terrible for new players.

I will personally be super stoked if there is a 6th ed release featuring Chaos right off the hop!
I want nothing more than to be able to field more than one viable army build >.<
I really think the push this time will be to include apocalypse in the main rules and expand the game for larger armies. It keeps all the silly people like me buying models >.<.
Also it would be super if they would make proper rules for flyers if they are going to become part of normal 40k gameplay...
Kill team/short game scenarios would be very awesome in an updted *necromunda* style but really seem to be dissapearing in the current direction of 40k.
Having something like this as a way to get more people into the game would be an ecellent move on their part.

I'm starting to think the Dark Angel/Chaos rumour is starting to look more credible.
Both books are due revamps, talk is both will probably be out next year, both are iconic in GW lore, Dark Angels haven't been on a cover since Deathwing? (The only other one I can think of on top of that is Space Marine, back when they wore black armour.)
Plus with the toning down of Necrons if all of Yakfaces snip bits are correct (which I have no doubt that they are.) Then the rumour of making Chaos the big bad again seems very likely, so being in the box against loyalists makes perfect sense.
Of course this is GW, we could still recieve a curveball, but I am pretty convinced we will be seeing Chaos v's Dark Angels in the 6th box.

I think it would be a great strategy for GW. If they have a large focus on smaller scale games it would encourage people to start new armies. It makes it alot easier for people to indulge in the new-and-shiny model purchases and be able to play games with just one or two boxes of models. I think this would definitely increase sales across all ranges and get people buying from model ranges where they might not otherwise if it entailed spending hundreds on a full army.
Aside from the practical aspects, some of the 6th Edition rumors mention the book being an all in one tomb with rules for Apocalypse and using flyers, it would make sense to cover the other end as well, and have rules for small scale games. I think GW would be missing on a huge opportunity here. Not only would it encourage sales, it also creates a system that would be in more direct competition with some of the growing skirmish games like WM/H and Malifaux.

This is a great point, too. Remember in the old White Dwarfs where they would do lunchtime 40k games? There's alot of appeal, for me at least, to be able to get a quick game at home with friends and not have to spend a whole afternoon to get a game in.
There's no good reason at all not to encourage games on all scales. Smaller scale stuff also removes some of the price-of-entry barrier that currently exists for new customers.
Maybe I should write Jervis a letter...
