Subject: Dakka Minecraft Server Reset
|
 |
Longtime Dakkanaut
|
This thread is mainly aimed at those who are whitelisted and play Minecraft on the DakkaDakka Minecraft Server.
So the official non-beta release of Minecraft is scheduled for 18th November. We plan to upgrade the DakkaDakka Minecraft server to the official release sometime shortly after that date (but I can’t confirm an exact date just yet).
As part of the upgrade, we will reset the world. Everything gets erased.
Why?
Since Minecraft 1.7, Notch and the other Mojang developers have greatly modified the world generation code, introducing new biomes, rivers, villages and strongholds. While we could continue and just have these new features only appear much further out in the world, a reset allows these new features to be spread everywhere in the world (and gets rid of the huge cliffs between 1.7 land and 1.8 land). Also the official release seems like a good time to start fresh. So everything gets erased.
But DON’T PANIC, because many of you have put in quite a lot of excellent work building many fancy structures, I will take on the daunting task of copying any requested structures across to the new world.
Some of you have already asked for resources instead of copying structures. I’m afraid this is a no. There will be plenty of new land to mine. However, if I were to copy a structure of yours across that happened to have some chests inside of it, I’m not going to go to the trouble of going through them and emptying them out. Make sure any chests you want are inside your structure and not buried underground (or even just underneath your structure - I will not be copying the ground underneath your structure unless there are visible rooms etc).
I will only copy structures, no roads, tunnels, mountains or lakes etc. If you have a large underground base or rooms, halls etc. then I can copy it no problem. Just bear in mind that the more underground stuff I copy, the less "fresh" terrain will be available for mining.
I will not be resetting your inventories, so don’t worry about chucking things into a chest before the reset. However I will be resetting your player locations to the new spawn point, to prevent you logging in in the middle of nowhere or an ocean etc.
Please make your requests below in the following format:
1) Current coordinates of structure
This should be at least the x and z coords of any point within your structure.
Make sure to get the x and z coordinates, not the x and y coordinates (as the y coordinate is just height and is less useful than the z coordinate). If you’re not sure, get the x, y and z coordinates. If you want to be super specific you can get the x, y and z coords of two diagonally opposing corners of your structure, but I should be able to figure it out on my own.
To get the coords, go to your structure on the server and press F3 to display the coords. If your coords are covered by the red graph, PM me or ask another player to help.
2) Preferred new location for structure
This can be anything as vague as “I don’t mind”, to “Somewhere far away”, to “a mountain biome”, to “these x, y, z coords that I tried on 1.0 RC2”
3) The Preferred new location must be further than 500 blocks in any direction from 0,0
If you’re requesting somewhere that is specific coords, we want to start with some fresh land in the center of the map. This means you can request x: -504, z: 143, but not x: 255, z: 255.
Do not simply make a request like “Please copy the Manor”
For all I know there could be more than one structure with that name or I may not even know what you mean. Also don’t post screenshots of your structure, I’m not going to explore the entire world trying to find the one structure that looks like yours. Coordinates or nothing.
All requests are first come first served.
If two people ask for the same spot, whoever asked first gets it. The world is huge, there will be plenty of places to go around.
Do not request to have your structure copied to a Mooshroom Biome, The End, or the Nether.
I’m not putting structures in the nether, unless your structure is already in the Nether. Mooshroom Biomes are new and rare, therefore they should only get new structures. If you request coords that happen to be in a Mooshroom Biome, I will ask you to choose again or you will get a random place selected instead.
If specifying coordinates, try to match the current location.
E.g. don’t ask for a massive building to be placed on the narrow peak of a mountain, or some above ground structure to be placed underwater etc.
If you have a “secret” place you want copied, PM me your request.
I understand you may have a place which you don’t want advertised here. So PM me in those cases. The date and time of the PM will count towards any “first come first served” rules.
If you are not clear with your request, your structure may be copied to a random location or missed entirely.
You can request a structure that does not belong to you be copied
However, the owner gets final say on the new location. If you request a structure that is not yours be copied, this does not mean you get to own it.
Finding a suitable place using your own computer.
While I can’t guarantee that 1.0 RC2 will generate the exact same world as the final release, it’s a good chance it will. Those of you who want to go looking for a nice spot in 1.0 RC2, first backup your current Minecraft folder:
On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\yourUsername\Application Data\.minecraft
On Vista\7: C:\Users\yourUsername\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
On Mac OS X: /Users/yourUsername/Libraries/Application Support/.minecraft
Note: Application Data, AppData and Libraries are all hidden folders, you may have to either make a shortcut to get to the folder or enable the display of hidden folders on your computer. If you don’t know how to do this, use Google.
Make sure you have a backup so you can return to 1.8 when you’re done.
Then download 1.0 RC2 from here. Copy it into the bin folder in your minecraft folder from above. Create a New World using the seed dakka (all in lowercase). Explore for a place you like.
If you have trouble running 1.0 RC2, do not post your problems here, search the Minecraft forums for it is almost certain other people will have had and solved your problem.
This thread is for structure copying requests only.
As Minecraft is released this Friday 18th Nov, I will probably take the 6:35pm GMT 14 Nov 2011 backup as THE version to copy all structures (and player inventories) from.
You can still request structures to be copied at any time up until the release on Friday, but they will be copied "as they were at 6:35pm 14 Nov 2011".

My house at
X: 1568
Z: -413
Needs about 5 blocks in front of the main door with about 7-8 blocks down for the door mechanism and so as to not also release the lava from the door trap. It has a hidden underground section which also has a vault hidden in it. I would prefer if I could get the vault transferred as well, but I don't mind rebuilding it and the door mechanism if it becomes too annoying. The entrance room also contains a fair few redstone lines under it. The back section with the bridge going to the dock and auto-farms I don't mind losing so as to make it easier to place the building and so it's not on a cliff again.
I can show you next time we're both on the server if it helps.
For Biomes, forest, snow or grassland are fine for me also sort of in between being away from everyone yet not too far. So as to avoid unwanted visitors but not at the expense of the others.

cool logo! I'll find out the co-ords this evening, but I'd just like to say that could the manor's grounds be copied over too? It'd be a bit annoying if we have to do all that terraforming again, and re-doing all the underground rooms and pistonwork. new location- could we have it anywhere in a normal biome, relatively close to civilisation (new dakkatown, dakkatown, ect.), so within about 600 blocks of the spawn would be good? and could my ol' creeper magnet be copied over? It's about 20 blocks from the sanc, and I'll find the exact co-ords this evening. could it be as near as possible to where ever we build the next town/at the spawn point?

I can't read The coords of the manor are around x-330 z-330 at the moment, it is that large brick building with an area of 100*100 and a grounds area of 150*150 (flat land) which we would like to be preserved if possible. The basement starts at sea level (y=64) and fills the space under all of the grounds (so also 150*150) so if there upward could also be included (and placed underground) with the reset it would be greatly appreciated. I will update this post to include where in 1.95 we would like it if possible. EDIT: x=-226 z=740 is a plains biome perfect for felsi.

My Grey Mesa at -500x, -900z (and pretty deep, too.) I'd like that in a snow biome, if possible.
Also, I have a little watchtower at x-624 z-757 that could be placed around in more than one location. It's a basic tower to protect from mobs, with survival supplies inside. Would look nice in a plains biome, or on top of a mountain, or just about anywhere, really. I'd just like for it/them to be used as emergency shelters/waypoints for players traveling on foot.

I would like my house copied over. Some coordinates would be: x= -613 y=-63 z=-82 Ideally, I would like everything from -603, 63, -70 to -626, 87, -94 copied over (those would be two opposite corners of the cube). Particularly, I'd like to make sure to copy the library upstairs, because dang it, that was a lot of work As for location, I would prefer it to be in an ocean biome, preferably on a small island at least 1000 blocks from the start location (-1288, -262 would be a fine location, assuming there's no problem dropping my house in the middle of an ocean). My sphere is at -588, 0 and I would like that copied to around -1200, -250, 80 (bottom of sphere at elevation 80) Thank you dark for taking the time to copy our work over.

I suppose I'd like my two houses moved.
My Sky Lair is at:
X: -16
Y: 81
Z: -59
And my island retreat at:
X: 500
Y: 71
Z: -59
It is quite important that you get the gigantic underground pyramid I built under the Island Retreat as well (and the buoys around the island too...I guess basically I'd like the whole island moved).
I'm not too picky about where it gets moved to on the new server, although the sky lair is designed to be over water (as it has water falls falling off it) and the island retreat is designed so the 'back porch' looks out across some sort of coast line...so I'd like the island (assuming you can move the whole island) to be moved somewhere in a big patch of water, but near enough a coast line so that I can see it when looking off my back porch.
Oh, and in a perfect world I'd like them near enough to each other so I can walk between them (walking maybe 5-10 minutes or so) but not so close together that I can see them from each other (for example).

I be interested in the non-inventory wipe. Does that mean we can fill our entire inventory with essentials and go from there?
Also I wodner if the seeds are the same in 1.9.5 and 1.8.1. So far I found a large grassy plain at around x=1100, z=1275 that I would like to urm "reserve" for a castle build.

As has already been said, we are going to use the same seed as before - "DAKKA", but the world generation code has been changed a lot with new biomes etc. This is one of the reasons we are resetting the world, to get a world with the new biomes, villages and strongholds spread evenly, rather than our current "tree ring" layout of features from 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 with big cliffs between 1.7 and 1.8 generated land.
Although, if you have no structure to copy across, any land "reservations" you want to make will have to be arranged with other players on the server. But finders keepers is the usual practice. :-)
Ma55ter_fett wrote:What if we have a huge underground lair.
Like mine?
Yep, sorry this wasn't clear in my original post. I will copy underground structures.
What I meant was, if you have a building on the surface with what seems like nothing underground, then don't complain when I miss the secret hidden chest that was buried 2 blocks down.
If you have a large underground system of rooms, halls etc. then I will easily spot it and can copy it no problem. Just bear in mind that the more underground stuff I copy, the less "fresh" terrain will be available for mining.
I'll update the original post with most of these points. Automatically Appended Next Post: Doctadeth wrote:Will resources inside chests be affected by transition to the game?
Shouldn't be. Unless they remove items from the game, but that's unlikely (famous last words...) :-)

I apologise in advance...
I think the simplest thing would be to copy a large 3d box chunk of land that my complex is built on.
So sides and length (make a box out of the two points)...
One corner of the aread I want copyed
x:290
z:-512
other corner of the area I want copied
x:464
z:-665
Height
y:5.62-max height.
If you have any questions just PM me.
