Gave it a few goes now and I just can't seem to make it work, looked at every tutorial possible but there must be something I'm doing wrong.
Hopefully from this picture someone can give me an idea

Looks like your not letting the airbrush do the work for you. Do have a single action or dual action airbrush?
Assuming you have a dual action, do not engage the needle as much, this will make the paint come out very transparent, then slowly build the color up, it takes practice.

what redfinger said.
Also, make sure your spraying at ~15-20 PSI, if using a gravity feed airbrush. Your problem looks to be your spraying too much at a time, so you don't have control over how much comes out.

I'll give that a try once it's daytime again, thanks
Would you suggest Ice Blue or Hawk?
Whats the best angle to spray it at?
Cheers

Try thinning your paints a little more, so they become a bit translucent - that way, you can build up your color with multiple layers in several light passes and achieve a smooth transition.
Try the effect you're going for on a bigger test-piece, like an old piece of sprue, so you get a feel for the brush.
Cheers,

Agreed with above that lighter layers are needed and build it up.
Too much blue meeting in the middle, needs more separation.
Nice sharp lines though, figure you will have this nailed easily.

Gave it another go using the advice, thinned the paint a little more, slowed down the amount of paint that was coming out and spent a little more time.
I do think it looks a little better but not as good as I think I can achieve. Any more tips anyone can give me? Could I make the blue a little bit longer on one side to give it a bit difference?
Thanks guys, I made a little mess this time .

Must be doing something right, because it is a big improvement over your last one.

I'm no expert, but it looks like you might be getting a bit close with the brush. You can see where the paint has pooled and then run down the centre line. Try painting from slightly further away and giving it a bit of time between passes so the paint can dry.

To me, you have too much white and black on each sides.
I fount a tutorial with the same style power sword as you do, you can take a look at it here
Anyway, you have a good improvement between your 2 try
