Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
So I picked up a Venerable Dread a few days ago as part of my 1000 pt list for an escalation league. All of my army will have battle damage so I figured a venerable Dread should be Really REALLY old and beat up. So first up is a pic of the sarcophagus. I have only done the pre-shading, except for the side panels. I did the side panels in a dirty and aged white color, because white is the veteran color for the chapter. The trim around side plates will be done in Vallejo's liquid gold.
This is all I have done so far. everything else has been sub-assembled, primed gray and pre-shaded. Tomorrow I'll finish up the base color and get to work on the yellow parts.
Also any glare in the picture is because I gloss coated in before I applied inks, and have matte coated it yet.

Holy hell that looks excellent. Very convincing weathering. I absolutely love it. Is your entire army going to be in similar fashion?

This is a perfect example of the "less is more" principle that is often lost in miniature painting. Bravo, and well done!

Thanks everyone, This was my first time doing an aged white like this. The only other time I did it was on helmets and because of all the detail I didn't do it this way. Because I repositioned his legs I'll be making him a custom base with Milliput and a few extra pieces from the 40K ruins sets. nothing too fancy, just some uneven ground and some ruin pieces to help support his raised leg.

Back again, I finally got around to build the last two razorbacks of my 1000pt list. After painting those two, Buying the last Predator, and painting yet another Pred, I'll be a member of the "I actually have a fully painted army!" club (Which is quite an accomplishment because usually my progress with my own army mirrors that of a new years resolution to go to the gym daily) I snapped a few shots of my progress, here they are.
All the razorbacks. One being painted, one assembled, and one busy doing nothing inside a dark cold cardboard box.
If your looking to transport razorbacks/rhinos army transports 2.5" tray pluck foam (I'll have to double check on the 2.5") is the way to go. Its pushes the foam a little, but fitting four transports in one 2.5" tray is great if your trying to conserve space. Using razorbacks? no prob, there is a little space left over that can fit 3-4 razorback turrets depending on the weapon. alternatively you could flip the turret upside down like on the right razorback, but I prefer to give them their own slots in the foam.
If you do this I would suggest either taking of the hatch near the front or cutting of the antennae on it, as it sticks out of the foam quite a bit. I cut it of and drilled holes in the center to make it look more like it should be there
Hurray for Dreadnoughts! This guy is the venerable model because I prefer how it looks but in my 1000 point list hes just the standard. He also comes with a plasma cannon. Whats not to love about the 115 point, Plasma Cannon and DCCW toating AV 12 walker?
I used vallejo's liquid gold copper on the gold areas, later I will highlight them with gold. I was incredibly happy with the results on the front two panels, the worn white came out great! as did the running legs. the left knee pad is partially yellow because there is a yellow stripe on the knee pad of Red Scorpion space marines.
The last thing for this time is the Combi-plasma conversion for all my Tactical Squad sargents. I saw a conversion for the combi-plasma online but lost the page, so he is my attempt of roughly the same thing.

That dread looks fantastic, no wonder you're happy! I'm currently working on a Red Scorpions army, so I shall be following your progress with great interest.
And will probably be shamelessly 'borrowing' some of your ideas. So I'll apologise in advance.
