Another Christmas, Another year beckons, another project started.



Welcome to the 169th IG Regiment, "The Iron Duke's". This is my new Army for a Cities of Death campaign, hence the Urban Camo scheme, and mainly a development to allow me to participate in APOC games and plus I was getting board with Marines.







And I usually run Knight Commander PASK with an Emperor's Fist unit for Apoc, (Borrowing another 6 LRBT from a friend).



They are painted and varnished, but I need to crack on with my Tracks and weathering the tanks Flames of War style.

Next up is to complete my Infantry force, this will be based around 2-3 Veteran Squads in Chimera's, I will be using Kasrkin for all my Infantry models, because I think they look awesome, and they can also double up as my Naval Infantry Force (which I will eventually finish). Here is the camo scheme from my test mini.

The sponsons of some seem to be only partly done yet.
Are these tracks glued on? Painting them on sprue is what I've seen usually as a preferrable solution to get them pretty fast ready. Effects could be done "in place" later... if desired to have them.Plan to Paint them all mounted?

I am not planning on painting the Treads as such, I will put a base colour of Snakebite Leather and then use my MDP pigment set to do extremely heavy rust and urban rubble dust. The Treads are glued on, and are also undercoated with Grey Auto Primer, which makes it difficult to spot if they have been glued or painted.

And yeah there are few bits I need to do on the sponsons, when you are painting so many vehicles you tend to get sick of it and just speed through it missing bits.

LONGTIME no update. Well now for a Mega update.

This project is now going in a different Fluff Direction but the Colour scheme remains.

My New Army will be what I call a "STURMKOMPANIE" or an army of assault veterans designed to be the point of the Spear and the lead element of any Imperial guard Army. So this army will be a STURMKOMPANIE but also my Imperial Navy Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) force. To rescue downed pilots, secure crash sites and recover escape pods etc but I will use them as Veteran Elite Infantry formation, all of them will eventually have Valkyries as well giving one Army with 2 different forces (e.g Mech-Armour and the other Rapid Air-deployed).


With this in mind, I will be running my Army as Veterans and Grenadiers. So Carapace Armour and BS 4, and 3 SW's very nice! In Apocalypse games I will field all 100 veterans and their Armour.

So what models? Easy an entire Company of kasrkin supported by their own Tanks, and Mechanised elements.

Here is the 1st Half Company painted on my Table, about 80% done, need to clean them up and finish basing them and then a Varnish. ( I love Kasrkin they look military unlike some of the more exotic IG formations).

So i'll have Body Guards, Vox Op and a Medic.

So yeah some tidying up to do, and another 40 of these to do..... Then some conversions for the sgts etc.

And the command element will be heavily converted with the Environment suits from FW.

Also time to revisit the Tanks and make them look better, I should have a Homogenous force with about 5000points worth.

BEAUTIFUL! What kind of armor will they have backing them up?

Well what I have above, so 4 Leman russ (or Demolishers as I have 4 alternate turrets) 4 X Chimera, 2 x Banewolf/Hellhound, 1 x Manticore, 1 x Basilisk, 1 x Command Chimera (think it has a different name? open topped?).

On the wish list, 3 x Valkyrie, 2 x Valk variant with 3 x Twin Linked LC for AT purposes.

Valks will be painted Charcoal black, light highlight with lots of decals off Aircraft kits (DO NOT STAND, ELECTRIC HARD POINT etc) and IMPERIAL NAVY DECALS in this kind of style.

Opentopped Command Chimera? Perhaps you mean the Salamander?

I like the idea of a Storm Company. Perhaps you could call it an Einsatzkompanie or in Swedish Insatskompani. As if it were a strike force with the purpose of striking at targets of opportunity. It's your choice of course.

The Camo's nice too. Simple and efficient, as it's supposed to be.

I like your suggestions, apart from the EInsatzkompanie is a bit close to Einsatzkommandos, which is something i'd rather avoid.

How about the Colonel is called Karl Gustaf (or maybe Charles the XII one of the greatest military minds of the last 1000years)? It kind of gets that Swedish Military history in there and still keeps my Company looking the very efficient Military Model of Northern Europe in a 40k context?
