Since buying the codex my mind has been filled with the thoughts of necrons and as such I decided that it would be my 2012 project army. Seeing that amount of kits in one place outside a GW store makes my wallet weep. But on a more serious note good luck with it, looks like you've got a mammoth job ahead of you. Look forward to seeing some sample paint schemes.

Ok so finished the first squad but boy did it take some effort and swearing. Firstly because I'm using resin bases I had to pin each model to the base and from experience with resin bases pinned both feet to prevent spiny model syndrome. Why is it that none of the necron legs fit on a base? Necron warriors seem to be a massive pain in the behind putting together and I ended up pinning the body to the legs so as to get a good join and the poses I wanted. Cryptek also required some pinning to make him stable but I'm quite pleased with the result. Then came painting and this led to it's own trials. I have discovered that unless you have a steady hand (Mine shake like a sh!!ing dog) extreme contrast edge highlighting looks like it was done by a 4 year old with a wax crayon, which led to the first colour change (from space wolves grey highlight to hawk turquoise highlight). Second discovery/rediscovery gw yellow paint is just plain awful and to get anything like the smooth coat I'd require would take 6 or more thin coats and be far more time consuming than nessecary for an army so I reluctantly changed to green.

Great paint job! - those bases look really good also. Your effort is paying off.

Id like to hear about your process for assembling and painting the Barges and Arks. Do you paint in stages or pieces and then assemble later?

Ok finished the first barge! Don't know if I'm getting sausage fingers or the kits are getting fiddlier but this was a real PITA to put together and had plenty of swear words thrown at it. For ease of painting I kept it in four main sections for painting (Main body and pilots, Prow and controls, Main Gun mount; and underslung gun mount) and the arms off the pilots. It was still akward to paint but if I'd stuck it together completely it would have been almost impossible. So enough rambling here we go.

Next 2nd squad with another cryptek.

Quick update finished Command Barge with magnetised Overlord.

Used 2mm x 1mm magnets one in each foot to allow me to use the same model for both mounted and disembarked overlord.

After realising what a mammoth task building and painting ghost ark is gonna be and having that new army itch I have decided to build and play an interim list. So yes this list isn't what I've set out to build and it steals the odd concept from other people but it also allows me to try out some combos that wouldn't fit in my original list.

HQ

Necron Overlord w/warsycthe, semipertinal weave and mind shackle scarabs in a command barge.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Been hard at work firstly building and kit-bashing then for last 2 nights painting as fast as I could to get my interim list finished and here are the results.

and 7 more scarab bases (waiting on some puppetswar cyber beetles to make more swarms)

Now fun Stuff Deathmark Squad

individual

Back view

Crypteks

with the crypteks I wanted each sort to be different and to have wargear represented somehow, so I have given each it's own style of staff then painted the crystaline bits in different colours.

2 Harbringers of Destruction (1 with solar pulse)

2 Harbingers of the Storm with Lightning Fields

2 Harbingers of Despair with Veil of Shadows

Overlord and lord with Sycthe (ok he's a lychgaurd but I'm using him as a lord with sycthe)

Thanks for looking

Looking awesome! I especially like the customization of the different harbinger crypteks. I might want to shamelessly steal that concept-- er, model mine with some influences from your ideas.

Long time since last update original list has been scrapped partialy due to ghost ark kit being a nightmare to build and paint and partialy due to new ideas. So here are a couple of new units for the Dynasty first up is the Monolith

and last 2 Sypders both 2nd hand with repair/kitbash new hand on one.

2nd Spyder

Up tomorrow Imotekh, Crypteks, and puppetswar scarabs.

Another night shift another- set of models finished.

First up Crypteks - 2 Harbingers of Destruction and a Harbinger of Eternity w/chronometron (slightly wangy posistioning on one of the destek arms but was all I had left bitz wise)

Imotekh - words cannot express how much I loathe finecast it is a horrible material and from my admittedly limited experiences with it has the worst quality control of any product ever. Bubbles are one thing but fuzzy casting and parts that split where the two halfs of the mold would have been are just inexcusable. Yes I know you can take them back and swap them but why should I? Why can't GW get it right in the first place?

Puppetswars Cyberbeetles or extra scarab bases - these things are cool and allthough they have flash and require a little bit of care pre-painting they are cheap as chips and look good when done.

Thats all for now thanks for looking.

Yikes, I am seeing all the horrible deformities on Imotekh and fretting a bit. And that's the reason I'm trying to avoid using Finecast if at all possible. Other than that, good work on the Crypteks as usual! And nice looking scarabs, too! I might go and buy some at this point.

Immortals w/ Tesla carbines - These models weren't to bad to build the only thing was having to keep the right guns with the right left arms with the right bodies to ensure everything lined up just right, luckily I was aware of this prior to clipping them off the sprue can only imagine the nightmare it would be had I been snip happy.

Up next - Obyron, Lychguard and more scarabs.

Yeah, I was having a problem with the Immortals, since I had some of the torsos turned in a way where I couldn't correctly place the guns, and it was rather frustrating to reposition them. Anyways, looks good so far. Can't wait for Lychguards!
