I got pwned by my VC playing friend last night in a 1500pt friendly. I didn't help myself by losing Festus to a dimensional cascade in round two but my biggest PITA was the Terrorgheist screaming at my anvil units and then flapping off elsewhere before I could get a charge in. Any thoughts on how best to deal with this threat. Perhaps I was lacking in mobility and need some face-smashing knights or a Daemon Prince for a takedown?

Two things.
1. Festus is your general?
2. Hellcannons are the worst thing to bring to a party with undead IMO

1. Festus is general
2. Trying for the money shot - take out his vampire and cause instability.

It's tough to give advice with new vampires right around the corner.

But in general, don't try and snipe the general if he's in the unit.
Between you hitting him dead on, him failing his 2+ look out, you wounding, then him failing his ward, and you doing enough wounds to kill, it's really a long shot. Instead, try shooting his Vargeist. It's much easier to hit, and on a gigantic base.

Don't place the template dead center, you're better off in the corner.

1. your friend is a little bit of a jerk for bringing a Terrorghiest in a 1500 point game.

2. because he brought a terrorghiest he is probably low on other models that really matter. Hit his general's unit in CC with everything you got and it should evaporate, then Crumble begins.

A Terrorgheist at 1.5K is totally reasonable, imo.

I agree with shooting the hellcannon at it, rather than trying to take out the vamp general... it's too scary to ignore it, especially at 1.5k.

As Grey and Ritides said.

Even a kitted out vamp cant do all too much when he has to deal with 30 or so warriors and a hero.

Blast the big thing its got a big base that basically screams shoot me because I am that much easier to hit.

Cheers guys, looks like a rookie mistake in targeting the VC gen.

He's a canny one I'm afraid. He has a pile of low cost units which shield the VC gen from CC giving a few turns of Terrorgheist mayhem.

I may drop the BSB for a support caster with puppet. Hold the guys back from smashing face and plug away with ranged stuff till that bad boy goes down.

As mentioend, target the terror geist with the HC. Really the best target.

Drop Festus for a MoT Sorceror. Start throwing flick and gateway at the beast. Gateway does not need LoS, so he can not hide.

This makes me laugh... It's perfectly fine for WoC to have 5++ infantry, the game's cheapest GW's as core and nasty characters in 1500pts but it's jerky for VC's to bring something that can actually compete when the army is already badly gimped at the same time?!! (why do we get so much needless hate just for being VC?)
Terrorghiests are big, mean & highly susceptible to being templated, cannon'ed in the face, gunned down and/or magic'ed off the table.

How would WoC deal with one?
Tzeentch sorcerer on disc who's faster, can take a 3++ to avoid the worst of the screaming and then flickering fire the thing to death.

And yes, you should always gun for the VC general, but never with templates! As WoC even your BSB will slap a Thrall silly, or, if he is going with a Vampire Lord it's not a very good one since he can only take 170 out of his 'normal' 250pts + option mount worth of upgrades. (and current Lords can't hold up to fighty WoC characters without being very, very pricey themselves.)
WoC is easily one of the hardest match-up's for VC's currently because both armies are pretty much the same; close combat focused armies that need to punch stuff to cause damage. Thing is, outside of 2 infantry units and our Rare section, VC's have little to no hope of holding upto what WoC can bring!

You deserve all the hate and nerfing for all those horrible things you did in 7th (as do daemons)

Woc may have good saves but hey complete lack of shooting.

Vc shenanigans hopefully have now come to an end.

I remember a while back turn 1 empire cannon smears the vamp in a 2.5k game haha. Failed his los and his ward.

Woc are pricey so ya they are good but I mean if you ignore their armor than you pretty much take away a huge chunk of what makes them that good.
