I know a lot of people think this is the 6th edition Rulebook. But some are skeptical and believe this "leak" to be a hoax. What do you think?

I suspect it was a very very early proposed draft by the guy who is no longer going to be doing the rules for 6th ed. Theres too much copypasta and too many errors for it to be near final.

Additionally, the overall ruleset is much much more complicated than 5th, and I expect that the rules will be simplified not made more difficult.

Also, given that we've been told the more recent codexes have been written with 6th in mind, then theres some stuff that doesnt make sense.

Is there a "its an early draft of 6th edition rules, but written by someone who won't be writing the real 6th edition rules, but some of the stuff in the document will probably end up in 6th" button for me please?

Yeah, I'm going to go with 'work in progress', or more specifically, a rejected early draft of 6th.

Hi.
I belive its a very early copy / rough draught the developers used to try out new ideas.

Alot of the clunkiness and over complication is due to trying to make good concepts backward compatable.

The restructuring of the game turn IS the most sensible change IMO.As it put back the tactical chioces the current game turn removed.

I believe it was the work of Alessio Calvatore, the GW heads decided not to go with such a huge change so Calvatore leaves GW last May around the time the Adobe file says it was finalized. GW then assigns (?) to take Alessio's work and redo it to make it less world changing for the 40k community. Alessio leaks information to the public about his frustrations with GW and what was in his 6th ed. Now that the release of 6th is imminent Alessio leaks his version of 6th from a USB drive or memory chip he swipped before leaving GW after they pissed him off. Knowing that they made significant changes to his work the leak is designed to show GW what a huge mistake they made.

The timeline all works out oddly enough, and the motivations of all the parties involved are feasible.

I am a true conspiracy theorist at heart.

*edit: What Calvatore leaks about 6th, along with his confession of frustration at GW, is pretty much spot on for what is in the file floating around masquerading as 6th edition.

I hope it is a work in progress. 40K has been over-simplified and cheesy in this edition. I'd like to see a return to the older editions, where heroes were epic and there was a whole lot less whimpering over cover saves and the like. 40K used to be brutal.

Of course, there used to be Indians here, too...

In the dark recesses of your mind...

I think I'm one of the few who is hoping that this is either a hoax or a rejected ruleset. I've just really got my head wrapped around the rules, and I'm not looking forward to a lot of radical changes.

Looking at the PDF, the way it is set up looks so close to the current rulebook (minus the pictures) that it most likely was made within the company. Whether these are a rejected ruleset, or a beta of the new rule set is up in the air.

Work in progress is the best fit out of your choices (better choices than most polls though), but I'd say it's about 90-95% done, just needs some tightening up of the loose ends.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Indeed.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
