Howdy. For the longest time, I've been looking for an interesting way to model Tyranid Termagants. Recently, I stumbled upon this thread: Linkage. Granted, the thread is over two years old, but I had actually never seen somebody use different Tyranid bits like this on regular infantry. It inspired me to work on my own Fleshborer-toting Termagant conversion. Here's what you'll need to do what I did:

1x Hormagaunt body
1x Gargoyle head
1x Gargoyle Fleshborer
You can also use Termagant Devourers, instead.

I just buy bits off of eBay. This store has all of the bits you'll need for this project.

16x Hormagaunt bodies were $6.79.
10x Gargoyle heads were $1.99.
10x Gargoyle Fleshborers were $1.99.

I have a ton of 25mm bases, so that didn't cost me anything. For a total of $10.77, you can build 10 of these converted Termagants. This averages to about $1.08 per model, which I think is even cheaper than GW snap-together Termagants... but only if you already have a stock of 25mm bases. This shipping cost was negligible; it was some amount I had sitting in a coffee mug on my desk.

You'll also need a file, clippers, X-acto Knife (or something similar) and a dremel.

Step 1: After cleaning the models like you usually would (removing flash and mold-lines), use some clippers and cut the neck off of the Hormagaunt body. You can see this in the first picture. Clean up the area with a X-acto Knife and a file.

Step 2: You'll have to use a dremel to drill a hole into the Hormagaunt body so that you can slide the Gargoyle head comfortably in to. You can see this in the second picture. Once you feel satisfied about the fit, go ahead and glue it. If you're not pleased with the fit, you can drill a little deeper with the dremel.

I did ten of these tonight. You can see them in the third picture. I'll add more to this tomorrow; I should be able to finish the rest of the model so you guys can see what a group of ten would look like.

Cut the neck off of the body.

Use a dremel to drill a hole into the body. Then glue in the new head.

Nifty conversions. Bloody cheap too by the looks of it.

As promised, the rest of the conversion tutorial.

Step 3: Glue the additional legs to each Hormagaunt body. I don't think I need to explain or photograph this part.

Step 4: Glue your weapon of choice to the Hormagaunt body. Since I plan on running Tervigons, I opted for the standard-issue Fleshborer. I did, however, use the Gargoyle Fleshborer. It's just a little bit longer than the Termagant variant, but you'll likely not notice the difference. Also, the Gargoyle Fleshborer bits were way cheaper. If you're a real pro, you can magnetize each weapon symbiote for your complete customization... but since I'm just planning on running these as Tervigon spawn, I wanted to keep these simple; this will be helpful since I plan on making 50 more. Yikes! Pictures below.

The conversion is really easy and if you already have a supply of 25mm bases, is the cheapest possible option to make large amounts of Termagants or a variant build. Questions or comments, as always, are welcome.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Nice conversion.

Good that you are using spare bits from eBay. Very eco friendly as well as economical.

The standard snapfit Termagants are about £1 each = $1.60.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Would it not be posible to just kitt bash a termagant and a homogant body swap for more varied poses? :-)

Thanks. Yeah, the GW Snap-Fit Termagants are pretty cheap. But like I said, if you already have a supply of 25mm bases (and I'm wondering who doesn't), these only average ~$1.08 per model.

I guess? I'm not really sure what you're asking. This is also cheaper than buying boxes of Termagants and Hormagaunts.
