Hi there,

Was checking the gallery yesterday and saw a lot of beautiful GK models. The thing is : they all followed the colour scheme of the GW army, silver with gold ornaments and red and white coats of arms.

My question is : has somebody tried something different ? Not necessarily wildly different, but variations nonetheless. I'd love to see some !
I was wondering what their blasons would look like with Regal Blue used as the main colour (while keeping all the other elements), for instance.

Amaze me !

Red looks nice, if you can avoid them looking like Blood Angels

or you could go with actual Grey knights

I've seen them done in white but to my mind they look too much like Death Guard

I am planning on doing mine with silver armor, but something other than gold for the wording and ornaments. Haven't decided on what that is going to be yet....

Very interesting takes Charax, thanks !

Joe, what about ivory ? The more I think about it, the more I like it ; have no spare model to conduct tests though.

I think white looks really cool.

Heres a pic of a guy I did In white a few months ago (first mini back after not painting for years)

White is a pain into paint so I ended up going for a silver scheme. But I think I may go back to painting them white and strip the ten or so that I've got painted so far.

Excuse the crappy painting.

That's not a bad idea at all, that would look good I imagine! How does one do Ivory with GW paints? Or should I get another brand for ivory?

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

Poole

I did chaos black undercoat then boltgun silver with a watered down black wash after, the ornate bits were then highlighted in mithril silver, heavy weapons in mechrite red. The storm bolters are chaos black. There are some pictures in my gallery.

P3 do a "Jack Bone" colour which would be perfect. they have good coverage too, so it'll go over a black undercoat.

Look for Kal-el here on these forums; he did a beige superman themed army.

For me I think it has to be grey, as it is in keeping with the fluff.

Bleached Bone could be a starting point.

i painted Ivory for my little brothers Grey Knights, i started with Zandri Dust as a base coat, then used Seraphim Sepia next off, for the first highlight i used Ushabti Bone, then the final highlight with Screaming Skull, this came out more bone-y than Ivory, but it looks pretty good!

Here's how I painted mine

Honestly, be bold and if you want to paint a different scheme, then do it. The standard scheme for GK is a nice one no doubt. Pick some colors and start trying them out on some test models. I painted about 10 models my friend gave me before I figured it out.

What are the colors you want?

I did an off white, read bone, colored GK army with gold, silver, black, and red accents. I really like how it turned out. It earned me $900 on eBay so somebody must have liked it...

I went with red, kitbashed less ornate armor for the troops (justicars get the ornate armor, befitting their position AND making them recognizable in the unit...something important in 6th ed), and some aftermarket bits to give them a different theme and distinguish them from BAs.

This guy did some great dark steelish kind of metal plating.
Really good IMHO.

Gold! then they can be like custodes

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

I painted mine like that just a darker purple more like the EC's than anything else. Any tips on the power weapons shine mine are a nice blue but they dont have the sheen you got. Either way great job, what was your inspiration if i may ask.
