Hi guys!

Firstly, before I go any further, gotta say I love the Orkmoticons lol! Awsome

Ok, so a bit about me and why i'm here. I have flirted with the idea of getting into WH40k for a few years now but never followed it through. I recently got my girlfriends son the Assault on Black Reach for his birthday. I did this coz I found out that this kind of game was right up his alley and not only that, but when I suggested it to the kids grandfather, it turns out he, and also my girlfriends brother, also wants to play. After all the lookin around and researching we did on the net it now turns out that my girlfriend is quite keen too.

I myself havent made a purchase yet. In fact I havent even chosen an army. It' so dificault to chose. I was thinking of getting an AoBR set for myself whether I chose orcs/SM or not, on the grounds that you get the rulebook, dice, templates etc plus a good deal of minitures to paint and if nothing else that would give me a bit of practice at painting. Or maybe i'll chose an army and just start collecting that way.

So far i'm finding myself drawn to the Necrons. They seem to have an interesting background and look wicked! But I have a week to go before payday so I'll be doin a bit more research and looking round before I dig deep into my pocket.

Well I think I'm starting to waffle a bit now so I'll leave it there for now

Thanks for having me and I guess I'll see some of you around

Welcome to Dakka

If you are thinking that you will not be keen on either orks or marines, you can always get the templates and mini-rulebook from ebay (there are always loads out there, as many people get the AoBR set for the "cheaper" models).

Alternatively, you could aways sell or trade the models with others for things you do want.

I'd also advise getting your models from somewhere like Dark Sphere, Wayland Games or Maelstrom Games - they usually offer between 10-20% off RRP and Maelstrom gives free shipping.

Or, if you are happy to get models 2nd hand, take a look in the trade forums (and if you want some Eldar, CSM or IG, I have some for sale [/shameless plug]).

Thanks for the advice Silver! Your not the 1st person to mention Dark Sphere to me! AoBR is 46 quid on their site as oppsed to 61 quid at GW. Why is it that GW aren't very competative with there prices? I dont get it?

Yeah... we try not to think about it

I take it from your username you are from Stoke? There are a couple of independent stores in S-o-T that sell warhammer stuff. Guys That Game (GTG) in Fenton, and one just down the road from the doctors/library in Longton (it is a general model store, but they have some warhammer boxes in there too).

They probably will not have the price discount, but I know that GTG have some tables to game on, and their webstore also has a % discount from RRP.
