The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

If you have a reason to go there (i.e. a game/tournament) then yes. You spend a whole day happily playing, looking at cool stuff and drinking/eating their cheap food.
It's free but there isn't a days worth of stuff to see/worth the 2hr(+?) drive/expensive train journey there.
That said there's lots off cool stuff in Nottingham so as part of a larger trip it would be fine.

Worth going to if you're in the area. I wouldn't plan a special trip especially unless you are going for an event day. The bar/restaurant is good, there's a decent shop that stocks Forgeworld, and the museum is nice to look around. But you'll only spend half a day there tops.
Also the industrial estate there is a maze without any maps or signposts like most industrial parks have to tell you who owns which units, the map on the GW site isn't a lot of help either.

I have been there a few times now....try to go Thursdays as it's "games night" as far as I remember. I think it's good to go and get some games in with friends.....I dont think there is enough to warrant a specific visit though

It's a blast at events, but any other day it might just seem like a larger GW, also the fact that it's confusing as hell to get there (I only discovered the route by accident!) and can be very costly to get there from London.

I drove back to the hotel to change and got lost for an hour walking then got a taxi to find it. I was no more than 500 yards from the place and contend that I would never have found it again!

The menu is good but has a few strange items, like the beef burger with bananas in it.

The burgers (sans bananas) are really good. Apparently the chili is like eating fried fire.

I've been and for a free venue it's really excellent. Need to bring your minis for a game though to make the trip a decent one though I feel.

I went a month or so back with a couple of mates, purposely avoided tournament days.
It was fantastic! One of my best days out ever!
Played on the Fortress of Redemption table with my Orks. Had a blast. And the Bugmans Bar was excellent. I'm planning to go again soon.

Its awesome!!
The miniatures gallery upstairs is worth the visit alone!
not worth travelling from London just for it.. but if you go as a day trip to look round nottingham, you can easily kill 3 hours there.
You can park in warhammer world all day.. and its a nice 20 minute walk along the canal into the center of nottingham..

I went there when I visited the UK the Food is great hahahaha I wish we had gaming establishments like that in the states. I guess I picked a good day to visit. I played a couple games of WHFB always interesting when playing in a different country. I enjoyed myself , but as far as the "museum " aspect I don't see that lasting you more then a hour or so. If you go try to find a game and make it worth your time.

I did enjoy my few hours there after taking the train from London but in reflection I would have much rather gone down and spent a few hours in Paris or flown over to Ireland.
It was neat seeing the actual figs you've seen photographed up close but other than that it was just 'ok.'
This is not a h8 post. I really wanted to go and I did, sort of like a pilgrimage. It was a nice one off trip but in retrospect I could have maybe better spent that time

Thanks guys! After all that, I've decided not to take the time to travel from London to Nottingham. I guess I'll just sneak a peek at a GW store or FLGS in the big city. Any recommendations?

Not a huge deal gaming-wise in London.
The biggest GW store is probably Oxford Street, but its not that big. But there is the Orcs Nest (decent rpg store) and Forbidden Planet (awesome if you like Comics/Scifi/books/collectables etc) nearby.
Or there is the Hammersmith GW which was their first one,
Dark Sphere in Waterloo is quite nice as a more general wargaming shop.

I say its definitely worth a visit.
Enjoyed it immensely the two times I have been there on 40K doubles weekends, and it was packed.
I would imagine when there isn't a tournament going on it would be a very pleasant location to spend a good few hours relaxing for a meal, probably after using some of their excellent gaming tables.
