Psychic Prisoner aboard a Black Ship

Hong Kong

Hi all, just got back into the hobby recently. Haven't painted any miniatures for over 10 years and here's a small Inquisition army I painted recently, consisting of mainly GKs and a few Sisters. Quite like the bluish tint on the armour of the dreadknight shown on the back of the box, and so i thought i'd use a paint scheme where i emphasize on the blue shades. i also think the shiny silvery look doesn't seem to suit the grim dark war torn universe very much and so i used a lot of dry brushing on the armour to give it a more battered look.

Lovely !

Would you mind sharing the technique you used for the weathered metal? Especially the DK legs, wich are too realistic to be true!

Very good job !

Beautiful work. One of the better GK armies I've seen.

Thanks for the compliments.

Seb, the weathered metal is done mainly through just lots of drybrushing.

Basically I started with a Chaos Black prime, then drybrushed with Bolrgun Metal. It is then washed with Asurmen Blue. The result is a dark blue metal which acts as the base colour.

I then lightly drybrushed it with Boltgun Metal again, but keeping away from the lower parts of the armour so they would remain blue. A light drybrush of Chainmail is done over the Bolgun Metal, and this time keeping further away from the lower part. A final drybrush of Mithril Silver over the top bits is then applied . Edge highlight with Mithril Silver to finish off. The multiple layers of light drybrush will then give the appearance that it's weathered. To emphasise on the blue shades, a diluted Asurmen Blue is lightly applied over the lowest parts of the armour and indents.

It's a bit elaborate and might be a bit time consuming, but it's relatively easy to pick up and once you get the hang of it, it actually doesn't take that long. There's probably a quicker way of achieving the same result, but I haven't experimented enough with different techniques to find out. Plus I don't now how to do proper blending so this is my method of trying to get some semblance of gradual shading.

Not a fan of the choice to paint flesh (a nice accent-colored cloth looks better IMO) on the thighs and torso of the left sister, but everything else looks great! Really like the metal effects.
