Hi I've just got a copy of Imperial Armour Volume 8 and I want to build me a Mega Dread. Where is a good place to buy plasticard and bits from?

Cheers

Assuming that you are looking to scratch build and not into just getting the kit from Forge World?

Well there's plenty of sources of materials.

GW's Ork Stompa kit might be a source for materials.
E-bay is an obvious source of bits.
Boot/Yard/Garage Sales are a good place to get random bitz and wots-its

For Plasticard, aside from sources like Gale Force 9, check your local hobby shops. Shops that specialize in model trains usually have a wider selection.
For just simple cheap plain plasticard, go to your local hardware shop and look for those plastic "Beware of Dog" signs. It's essentially the same thing.

Ebay is about the best source of plasticard on the net, you can actually get it for close to 'trade' prices. I.e. about 30p a sheet, if that. I havent looked for tubing/other extruded plastic shapes but i would imagine it would be the same story.

As for gubbins, raid model car kits and the like, chances are it's more detailed than GW stuff. You only need to go GW for the weapons.

For plastic card, I like to use the signs like somebody else has posted, but its limited to 2 sizes. If you want to order some and have a place to store it, check here

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=22883&catid=715

Thats about the cheapest I have seen, and its BIG sheets, like 3 ft by 6 ft sheets big.

Plasticard is difficult in the uk. If you just need some blank sheet and your not fussed on an exact thickness you can pick it up at most Hobbycraft stores or grab some from ebay. Textured card and other interesting bits are a real pain in the arse i've found. Unless you're willing to try and negotiate the pdf catalogs from the big American companies and order some trial and error stuff then i think Antenocitis Workshop is your best choice. I found these too but i haven't tried them yet:

These are butt ugly and can certainly be built apon,

25mm pvc pipe, retic risers, biros and balsa wood. make the torso n bases the right size and wing it...more orky that way

not fancy but cheap : -)
My take on a mega dred is at the rear, body is a garden hose fitting and ice cream container, basically a scaled up dred looking contraption.
Not sure if this will help you much though...

Check out the hardware and DIY stores. 30p a sheet of plasticard is OK but you can pick up larger sheets of it in the form of signs and such. They work out cheeper by area.

Thats a good point actually. You should take some time to walk around B&Q. You'll find thousands of useless bits and bobs there and you wont break the bank!

Ramshackle games have good engines. Their stacks are epic.

For GW bits.

http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/

For resin bits and also they sell some brilliant things like flexi pipes, vents and ammo chains.

And these guys sell a load of really cool guns and the like. Even better with Zinge's ammo chains.

As for plasticard. I get SHG models for an insanely low priced piece massive pieces of card.

Zil those are some good sites! You have just added to my ever growing list of hobby sites.

I've found these good for those hard to find scratch building bits:

and
