Hey guys,

I started Blood Angels about a year ago, as the Cold Steel Mercs did Blood Angels for the Adepticon 2011 Team Tournament. Our army was based on the Hives of Hollonan fluff from the Blood Angels codex- Mephiston and some of the 3rd company go to the hive world of Hollonan to deal with some Genestealer cultists, then find out a whole Tyranid invasion is inbound and lead a defense, calling on some more Blood Angels and Angels Vermillion for support, and the Hollonan PDF. Our Adepticon forces were three BA and one IG, and the bases and boards decorated with lots of live and dead bugs from Hive Fleet Kraken.

After Adepticon I spent the rest of the year collecting the kits to build a full army, and playing some in my local league, but not painting at all. Finally I kicked myself in the butt and determined I would build & paint a 1750 army for the Conflict GT in January. My procrastination continued, with all the work being done within the week and a half prior to the GT. My force for Adepticon consisted of a Librarian, Sang Priest, 5 assault terminators in a Land Raider Redeemer, and 5 assault marines in a Phobos LR, and amusingly only the Librarian, Priest, and AMs were used in my Conflict list.

You can find my army list and summaries of my games & results in my army list thread. And more about The Conflict GT in the thread over in the Tournament Forum.

Anyway, that's enough rambling. Just a little background to explain a bit about the theme and basing, and why these models are as unfinished as they are.

These pics were taken by Fritz of the Fritz 40k blog, which is a pretty cool site. Thanks and credit to him for the shots.

Mann, they look pretty good from what I can see. It's a nice, crisp red and the yellow is nice as well. It makes for a nice and cohesive army.

Yellow seems a little too bright for my tastes, but a crisp looking BA army none the less. The use of chaos heads is a little distracting though. Were they heads just lieing around or was that planned?

BTW Mannahnin, Ragnar Arneson is the coolest name ever. Of all time.

Thanks, guys! IRL it's not quite as bright as it looks in these photos, as he used the flash.

The base coat/primer is Army Painter Pure Red spray. The vehicles then got a quick shade around the plates/joins with Badab Black. Some of the components were sprayed black instead, with the weapons getting drybrushed Boltgun and the other black parts getting a drybrush of a mixed couple of Vallejo greys (forget the names), one of which was darker than I wanted and the other lighter. The drybrushing is something that'll get cleaned up later.

The non-vehicle models got the black (Chaos Black), gold (Shining Gold), metal (Boltgun), and skulls/scrolls (Bleached Bone) painted assembly-line style, before I did pretty much a head to toe Devlan Mud wash. I added the white with a light wash of Asurmen Blue afterward, and re-touched the blood drops with Blood Red. I did all the heads separately, of course. They got a P3 white spray, quick coat of Iyanden Darksun, followed by all-over coat of Gryphonne Sepia, then Bright Yellow (Vallejo, IIRC) over the top, leaving sepia in the recesss. The eyes are just a dab of Thraka Green in the sockets.

Very nice. Solid checkers. Good to put a pic to the army list.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the "pop" on the table. I just need to put the real time now into cleaning and finishing detail work. Some of the assembly on the tanks came out a bit rough, where I tried using liquid green stuff to cover seams, and didn't manage to file/sand it smooth enough before priming. I'll probably work those into battle damage/weathering; maybe even splotches of tyranid slime/acid.
