Hi everyone. I have been doing 40k for probably about 8 yrs now and have 'finally' gotten my BT all painted, as well as painting several models for friends and my brother. So I got into fantasy for a change up in both playing and painting but have recently finished painting my Bret army and am looking for my next project and decided to do a diorama! BUt I am not sure what to do. I do have a few ideas and I want to revolve around a disabled/destroyed LR (I have an old junk one that is just setting around). So here are my two ideas:

1) The LR is a BT LR that has been disabled/destroyed and crashed up against a building and has BT marines jumping out of the the right side hatch and the top hatches shooting their bolters/bolt pistols at an unseen enemy with possibly one or two dead enemies close to the hatch that the BT are jumping out. Maybe even a BT using a chainsword on a rushing enemy?

2) The LR is a Chaos LR that has been set upon by the BT. There would be chaos marines shooting out of the hatches, slumped over the treads and there will be BT throwing brenades throw atleast one hatch and severl more shooting through hatches.

So which one do you guys think would be better? Or do you have an idea that would be even better? And this will be my first time undertaking a diorama so any suggestions on how to go about it would be great also!

Thanks,
Ragnar

I think the second might be better. Though I'd add some OSL in the form of fires, maybe fix a couple of the bolters to be in the middle of firing (muzzle flash etc) and to add some smoke.

Perhaps the front ramp opened and the remaining marines are charging out letting you do some melee near it, but it may be too busy with it.

The second, it makes the BT offensive, in the first scenario their defensive. Portray your heros in active rolls, not reactionary.

Also, what faction should the chaos be? I dont want them to be Black Legion as I dont want both the good guys and the bad guys wearing black. Maybe Knight Lords? Or maybe something red?

I'll also have to agree with everyone and say the second choice. As for the faction of chaos if you wanted read I would suggest using a bunch of khorne berserkers rushing out of the hull.

I'm liking option #2... that would be sweet.

Im thinking that I want the Chaos marines to be more on the defensive and getting wasted by the BT, so I dont know if the Korhne Berserkers are the best but def a solid option.

A few more things that I need to iron out before I start buying the stuff that I will need for the project is to get placement of the marines and the LR.

1) How many BT and Chaos should there be? I am thinking I should have 9 BT attacking the Chaos LR and have 5-7 Choas Marines shooting back with another 2-3 on the ground or slumped out of the hatches. Or do you think that will be to many bodies and give it that 'cluttered' feel.

2) And how big should the base for the diorama be? I am thinking maybe 1.5' wide by 2' deep? And have the LR in the back right corner crashed up against a brick wall or something.

3) And where should the setting of the fight be? I am thinking like more of an 'urban' feel but think it might be hard to do unfortunately. But what are some other ideas?

But what do you guys think?

Okay, I have decided to do an urban scene with 10 CSM (various states of aliveness) and about 8 BT. But how should I have the units placed out? And would having the LR crashed/stuck in the corner of a building be to much? And what are some general things/items that you guys would like to see in an urban diarama?

And also, should it be a combined IG/BT force attacking the LR? I would have the BT rushing forward and the IG hunkered down shooting.

Thanks
