I love the russ but I've never been a fan of it's turret shape (or it's height really) but I've always loved the Baneblades turret. I don't own a Baneblade so I can't try it myself, is this possible and has anyone done it?

Easy answer would be no. The Baneblade turret mounting thing is about as wide as a leman russ... I would look even sillier on there than the normal one.

And aside from the turret ring, the Russ has quite a small hull top anyway. Anything bigger than the current turret would just look weird.
I would like to see a Baneblade turret on another vehicle, perhaps a Land Raider? Sounds quite orky...

I agree! Or like a tech army.
I think it was here on dakka I'd seen someone post a picture of a Vanquisher with a large turret like an M1A1 that was just as wide and long as the russ, looked pretty nice on it, this is where I got the idea.

As previously stated, the Baneblade turret is simply too big for the Leman Russ chassis. Here's a grainy camara-phone shot of a mock-up:

I agree that the Leman Russ turret Is too small to be realistics. If You look at modern tanks likethe Leopard, the Abrahms and the Markava, they have large Turrets. This is to accomidate all the Kit req'd to keep a Tank Functioning, Its Hydrolics, Its crew, Its Elecrical Equiptment, yadda yadda yadda. Thats why I exteneded my Russ Turret with an extra back Bussle Bin: Because it seemed a bit more realistic.

Not every tank in history has been what people might consider "realistic" or "sane". The German P-1000 & P-1500 come to mind (although they were never built), as does the Russian KV-2 and T-35. All of them absolutely insane.

Agreed ( and mad props for your refrences, except there was aboslutely Nothing insane about the T-34-35's except how revolutionary they were), however, lets examine the Leman Russ. Within the chassis we have to fit adriver, AMMO ( For the nose weapon, the side sponson and the turret) and the engine. Now , I don't recall , but do the Leman Russes have gunners for the side sponsons? Gotta squeeze them in there. If it has Melta or flamers, gotta squeeze that mixture in there. Not to mention the tracks, rollers and drive sprockets are now reducing the main body's mass by a a quarter or so. Thats gonna leave us with enough room for maybe six to ten Main armourment rounds, at this rate. That leaves a turret to accomidate Comms, A Crew Commander, a gunner, A loader or auto loader system and the man gun and hydrolic system to make it work. As big as that cannon, or a vanquisher or even a demolisher is, its going to have a high recoil and run out. That means a turret will have to accomidate all of that, as well as any kit that needs to be stowed and cannot be strapped to the side.A Main combat a Vehicle like this would require water and rations, ammo and fuel to keep it operable for 24-48-72 hours, before resupply. Long storey short: More room in the turretis better.
Aaaaannnnnnnnndddd I've strayed from the topic.

The T-35 had nothing to do with the very successful T-34

You could try another. This is a Russ Demolisher conversion I did to use up a spare (Airfix 1/32 Crusader) turret. Forgive the urban cammo, ![]() [img]http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/14/341495_sm-Demolisher%2C%20demolisher%202.JPG" border="0" />

You are Correct. They are completely different tanks. My Error. I never claimed to have perfect WWII AFV. Does'nt change my over all point of the Un-Realistic Proportions of the Leman Russ MBT.

In terms of the Russ. I have the question of why is it that the guard use a tank named after the primark of the Space Wolves?

cause its an awesome name with tons of fire power!
Or because they are hoping all the tanks will go running off into the eye of terror.

I've read (secondhand) that, back in the rogue trader days, Leman Russ was a Macharius-esque legendary Imperial Guard tank commander who the tank was named after. Subsequently, Leman Russ was reworked into a primarch, and the tank was said to be named in his honor. Not sure how accurate this info is, however. But then back in the day the Guard also had Predator companies and jump pack assault troops. There was a lot more cross over in Rogue Trader.
