So Dr. Cheesesteak has hired me to paint his Beastmen army for him. This blog will catalog my progress with the army from assembly to completion. First up is a pic of the first set of models that arrived today. A lot more should be here in the next few days.

Here's the beginning:

So out of the 3 doombulls, I have only 1 that will need to be replaced for bubbles that I am not being paid to fix. This is my first experience with finecast, but a 33% failure rate isn't looking too good. Luckily the doombulls are the only resin models I'll be dealing with. Sadly my local GW is closed until Wednesday, so I'll have to exchange it then.

Here is a an update of the first Doombull. The model lends itself to highlighting quite well. So far on this model we have:
Vallejo Model Air Grey Primer
GW Scorched Earth(airbrushed)
GW Badab Black Wash
Reaper Master Series Chestnut Brown(the highlight)

I haven't decided how to color the fur yet. Perhaps black with faint highlights. Metal parts will be Boltgun Metal, a Badab Black wash and then light highlights with Chainmail and lastly some Mig rust effects. Some metal parts like spikes will be done in copper and brass.

I'm really looking forward to Malagor and the Taurox conversion. I've not done a full model in metal yet, and the brass skin should be cool to do.

I'm glad people are liking things so far!

Didn't get as much done today as I wanted. Apparently the bigger half of the army with all the gors and minotaurs won't be in until next week!

So tonight I worked on the first Doombull. I wanted some of the metal parts to look like they were scavenged upgrades to the model, so I used a few different colors. I thin it makes parts stand out more, instead of it all looking like the Doombull went down to the armor store and bought a matching set. I will still add rust to the steel parts once the army is done and before varnishing so that it will look appropriate for a beastmen army.
This is also my first attempt at striations for horns. I think it came out all right. I still haven't decided what color to do his fur patches or his mane yet. Without further adieu...

Here's an update from the last couple days. I'll add pics of the first 10 Gors this evening when I have a little more done on them.

First up is the Great Weapon Doombull. All that is left to do is the mane, fur, eyes, a little stone on his wrist and then rust effects which I'll add after the army is done but before varnishing.

Next up is Razorgor number 1. Same color scheme as the Doombull.

Razorgor number 2.

Here are a few of the Gors I worked on today. Just have horns and basing left on these ones, have 4 more that don't have their skin highlighted yet. Also need to decide on an easy freehand design for the banner.

Here are the first 10 Gors. All that is left for them is some rust pigment and basing.

I'm glad people are liking it so far. The bulk of the army should be in either Saturday or Monday so there will be a lot of updates next week.

Got a package in the mail today! 4 of the 6 boxes of Gors, 4 of the 7 boxes of Minotaurs, the box of Ungors, and the Daemonettes and Gargoyles that will make up the Harpies.

Wednesday should bring the rest of the Gors and Minotaurs.

Luckily I rangled my wife into helping me desprue and clean tonight so that should help out a decent bit.

I'll post pics tonight of everything that gets assembled today.

A little update as it's been a long week and a half. All that remains to be assembled is 10 gors, 1 Doombull and 12 minotaurs. I'll have the gors done tonight and the minotaurs and doombull tomorrow. Then I'll prime everything all at once and base coat all at once which will put me back on schedule as it's all airbrushing that takes very little time.

Liquid Green Stuff is a godsend for the jabberslythe. The gaps between the body halves and the gap on the tail were huge, but a little effort saw them covered just fine. I will need to GS the right arms base as the model didn't go together perfectly(almost impossible to glue the legs one at a time and have the scenic base parts line up so it all had to be done at the same time).

That was easily the hardest part of assembly as it's 60 of the same thing all day. 12 minotaurs left to go and then basing and assembly will be complete. Then it's airbrushing for 2 days to prime and basecoat everything. And then the real fun begins!

The Jabberslythe wasn't as hard to fix up as I thought it would be. LGS helped a lot here. I am much looking forward to painting him. All in good time eh?

yeah definitely. But i definitely do want one. I actually have some rocks I was thinking of just kinda adding guts and chaos insignia, etc to.

But speaking of, I was thinking, what's the unofficial size limit on a Herdstone? I mean what if I put a huge football-sized rock on the table? lol

Assembly is all done! doing basing right now then priming tonight hopefully. Had a little GS work on the jabberslythe base as it was raised up in the air a good 1/2".

PVA glue takes forever to dry!!!

I'll take some pics of the entire army tonight before priming.

And after spilling ballast like I knew I would, basing is done as well!
