Some days ago a friend of mine came into possession of some IG models that look very old. They are actually very badly painted, with no basecoat whatsoever and only basic colours.
I started renewing a few of these models, and faced int he following order: unremovable paint, brittle plastic, poor sculpting/gluing.
Considering that I like hard challenges, I'm satisfied.

After one day of work I finally managed to find a way to paint effectively one model.
This is my first Warhammer 40k model, even though it looks much more like it's a Necromunda one.
What do you think of it?
And by the way, what is your guess about his age/edition? We reckon it may be from the '80s.

I mostly tried to cover the actual damage of the miniature with wounds, and the splinter in the arm is just a shard of five years old dry paint.
By the way, also the paints are between 5 to 10 years old, and some were "resurrected" by careful handling.

Just checking - is he plastic or metal?

He looks very much like the first range of plastic Catachans. And, of course, GW have NEVER updated them. So, in fact, that's just current plastic Catachan!!

Of course, he might still be very old - I think those sculpts went on sale in 2001. They're widely regarded as being one of the worst 'current' GW kits, but digital sculpting has moved on a hell of a lot since those guys were first made...

It is plastic, and I totally agree about the bad quality of the kit.

Thin your paints, and look into using washes to shade your model.
