Subject: Composition of my Diorama (Update 4/4 lower page)

Hello all,
I am finally getting to a little side project I have wanted to do and seeing as I have not really done a Diorama before I would like to get some feedback on my setup.
Please take a look and let me know what you think.
PS- I will have the Rippers coming through tall grass like they are sneaking up on the dread.

Awesome +1. Will be very interested to see it painted. Especially with the appearing Ripper idea. See if you can make a few little mounds that imply more are coming up but haven't breached the surface yet.
But annoyingly part of me instantly thought he is trying to explain how to assemble a Gaunt to that Stealer and his Ripper buddies.
"No no foul xenos! I shall attempt to show you one last time but that is it! Insert part A into part B and viola!"
"Thats what she said!"
"I WARNED YOU NOT TO SAY THAT AGAIN! ARRRRGH!"
"Kekekekekekekeke"
But thats just me I'm sure.

Oh my Friend you just made me laugh It won't look to much like he is assembling him when I put lots of blood spraying everywhere. Haha
I very much like the idea of mounds in the ground and may have to see how that would look without it just looking like little dirt mounds.

Then that is my deed for the day.
Ah yes. Excessive use of blood splatter. What can't it solve? Well except blood loss I guess....
Yeah I actually misread what you put up first about the Rippers appearing. I thought they were coming out of the ground, ala the movie Screamers, rather than from the tall grass, ala Jurassic Park 2. Both would work. And the more Rippers the better.
Maybe have the ones you already have on there coming from grass, and have a few popping up next to his feet? With a little mound trail or two leading up to one that is popping up and implying more are on the way?
One other item of note, maybe think of changing the Stealer to a Gaunt of some sort. Seems a little odd that there is only one Gaunt around (i.e. the one getting torn up) when they hunt in packs. Not a huge deal, but would tie the theme together a little more in my mind. Plus you do have room for another Gaunt in there. So like 3 Gaunts total with Rippers everywhere.
But I do like where this is headed. Very whirlwind of death that the swarm just keeps feeding.
What is the color scheme for the Nids out of curiosity? Something that would blend with the terrain, or something to stand out? And will that Dread be painted up a Death Company? Just trying to work out if any colors would clash visually.

-I do think the idea of changing them to all be the same (ie - gaunt, stealer) would make sense. I think I may keep the 3 rippers going through grass and then add one or two partially out of the ground.
-Well I've painted the rippers so far and it is basically the flesh is bleached bone with a wash of badab black then a wash of devlan mud (tried and true method). For the Carapace so far I just did a Codex Grey and a badab black wash. So far they look ok but I think I may change it to a green carapace. I think before I change my mind I will get the basic colors down and see how it looks.
-The Dread will be painted up Death Company which will have the normal scheme with Blue Talons. I think it will look average frankly, but I think if I add lots of scratches and battle scars it will look better than just black and some occasional red.
I would like to thank you for your feedback and interest, it really has me motivated.

Another option may be to move the Dread forward and have a Stealer about to jump him from the rear. But I don't think there would be enough space to do that, and still have all the other cool details you are going for at the same time. Then again if you think you could pull it off maybe have one mounting the Dread from behind (phrasing!) with the Gaunt/s taking the front, and the RIppers piling in as discussed. Like he is getting proper swarmed. Just a thought.
The color scheme is a little odd IMO as is, but maybe it just needs some flecks of another color to 'pop'. Like maybe some dots of green on the carapace or skin as opposed to a complete color change. Also would work as proper camo to some degree if you go with some ground Rippers. So they burrow, blend, and then ambush.
The Dread will look awesome, especially with the blue talons. But definitely go for some battle damage so it isn't just black everywhere. Maybe some ichor splatter as well?
All good buddy. I really like what you are going for here and can't wait to see the finished product. Even if the painting ends up being average the theme is pretty boss. Now you just need a good name for it!

Here is an Update.
It really isn't even close to being done. I have a lot of fixes and touchups to do at this point. I have everything set otherwise.

Its kind of like the Blob from X-Men. You may not be able to hurt him, but you can hurt his feelings.
I like the Dread. :( If you aren't going to go with the Dread then what else? Terminator?
Here is a bit of an idea, maybe think of having one foot of whatever model ends up there in a sink hole. Like they are burrowing underneath it to pull it down. Would make it look a little more like a struggle IMO.

That is a pretty cool Idea with the foot. I was thinking if I do another model besides a dread (may use Ironclad) I would go with a termie w/ autocannon or libby in termie armor.

And as hard as it would be, giving him a yelling head, muzzle flash from sustained fire on his, and crushing a Ripper in his other hand would make it totally bad ass. Assuming it was a Terminator or regular Marine of course.
For a Dread the sinking foot still works, as does the crushing, but just doesn't have the same desperation feel to it. I can imagine them just digging up the Dread afterwards almost unharmed. >.<
But I love this whole diorama-rama and the fact you are willing to try some of these concepts. Makes me feel the itch to do some modeling, but need to finish typing up a bunch of stuff first. :(

I think I am going to go with the Termie w/ Autocannon and I will have the nid jumping from the the rock being ripped apart from gun fire and will have blood shooting from his back. I LOVE the idea of a ripper being crushed in the hand. It will be tough but SOOO AWESOME!!! Man I think I will be doing a few little Dioramas at this point with all the ideas from you.

What can I say. Its a gift. From Chaos. I'm just glad I'm helping rather than frustrating with all the changes.
But can't wait to see them. I've loved seeing the initial concept evolve and come to fruition to your expectations.
