Hey,

I met with the founder of an organization tonight during my Marketing class, Fay Morgan. She is the founder of Bikers For Boobs, a non-profit organization that raises funds to help those affected by cancer. They sponsor a bike ride every year and do quite a bit to help out Randolph County (here in North Carolina). One of the key factors in their success is contributions from others whether it be a monetary donation, a service (such as free advertising), or items (used for their silent auction) all of which play a key part in their success.

I spoke with Fay this evening about a Warhammer 40k army concept that would involve model/painting donations from a variety of individuals to help build a Pink/White themed breast cancer awareness Space Marine Army. Nothing seemed to fit more than Space Marine Bikers (Bikers For Boobs!).

I've seen this sort of thing done in the past, that is, individuals donate models and/or paint models that go towards an army that is then auctioned off with the proceeds going towards charity. This would function much the same, every penny (and I mean EVERY penny) of what the army sells for goes straight towards cancer centers in Randolph County, so it seems like it would be a good way to get some painting practice and give back to the community.

If you would like to make a contribution please send Fay an email (contact information above) and let her know. (Do not contact me, please go through Fay) I think the concept is spot on and really cool, and who knows, if this turns into something successful maybe it could be an annual thing.

Thanks for your time DakkaDakka community,
Justin

Update:
It appears the site is having some issues, I have contacted Fay via email, if you have questions feel free to contact her.

Here are some photos of my donation model.

Just wanted to post an update (not sure if anyone was interested) but GamesWorkshop replied and it looks like they are going to send some OOP models as a contribution, pretty exciting!

This actually seems pretty interesting although who would want to buy pink/white bike marines?

I'm sure if you made a certain Black and White Space Marine on a Black and White Bike then someone would buy it...

I think that it has more to do with the 'donation' aspect rather than an army that is 'pink and white.'

I am going to be putting the time into the models to get em painted but someone else is buying them, not really to 'own them' but as a way to contribute to the cause. I will be going to the silent auction if possible because I wanna drop a bid on em (even though I am painting them lol).

Do you think I can do Chaos Marine Bikers instead of the regular ones?

Only I prefer assembling them more.

Fay will take anything for a donation, the proceeds from auctioning them go towards a cancer center, however if you modeled the bikes keep in mind chaos look 'daemonic' in comparison to a marine, and these will be sold at a breast cancer bike ride in September, people there might be a little confused lol.

I'm not going to do any serious modelling/kitbashing since I'm going to mainly paint.

Now that is cool. I would like to see picts on what they donated to the cause.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.

Got the package from GW today, they sent a bunch of boxes of the 3-man Macragge painting set. Not bikers, but still usable I will provide photos once we have started painting.

Cool Idea and I hope it turns out good! I can't wait to hear how the donations turn out. Maybe you can post where the auction is and how to go about bidding? I can't wait to see the pictures also.

Click the images to see my armies!

We've done Susan Koman (sp?) benefit tourneys here in VA and have had entire armies painted in pink just for this event. I've always called it our Save the TaTas tourney. Hope this is successful.

I've just convinced several local gamers to do this so more bikes are coming along!

I received a PM today about the bikersfourboobs.org site being down. I have sent Fay an email letting her know, hopefully it will be fixed.

In the mean time I have a photo of my completed model. (First post)
