Hi guys

I've got a very large collection of lotr models which I, and my brother, collected when the game first came out in 2001 until I stopped collecting around 2003-2004 (Just before I went to secondary school). My brother has since given me his collection which means i now have a collection of around 750 models - which equates to around 13,000 points.

Here is a few pictures which show the collection although only in their storage boxes. I will, at some point, get them all back out again and take a photo of them all (I really should have taken some photos last time I done it).

Anywho, after following other lotr blogs for a while I decided to start painting some of my own models and then I thought I might as well start a blog about it

The first army I'm going to paint is a Minas Tirith force led by Boromir

Well since I started painting last week I already have painted models to put up and others which are in the process of being painted Hope you enjoy.

The models I'm going to paint after this are another captain, some guards of the fountain court and maybe some rangers.

What do I what back from you guys?

Help me improve my painting, if you can! (there is always room for improvement!)

Oh, I really want to base these models but I'm not very good at it so any advice on that front would be appreciated.

I had a million things which I wanted to put in this first post but I have forgotten all of them I'll try and but them in later.

Oh, and the only camara i have is my blackberry bold phone camara (which isn't the best thing in the world so ill apologise about the quality from here on in.

Let the fun begin.

I like the red.

You paint the armour first? I usually do flesh then touch it up, but your results show that your way works quite well!

I dry brush the armour so I tend to make the faces all silver while doing that but I've never thought of doing the faces first. I'll probably take that advice and do they faces first when I get round to painting some rohan/orks or whatever

Although, the faces are horrible. The pictures make them look better than they are

Quite nice, will be following this.

I would do one myself but no time and no camera (what camera do you use by the way?)

I like the colour scheme

first of all, awesome you made a blog as well. I like it especially because your army is massive and there is loads to come
The red colour is pretty, I too paint the faces later, especially because of what happens with the dry brushing, than you have to repaint them all after your done, especially as I like to go over it really roughly when dry brushing. It's funny to see how your guys (as you already said) look a lot like Scott's ones.

I'm not sure if my eyes where right, but why is your Boromir shield blue? I can't really see it, but it looks blue, if it is I was wondering why you choose to do that.

I wouldn't worry about the camera, I'm shooting off a HTC HD7 so I'm in the same boat

Yeah, I've got too many models. Really don't understand why my parents allowed me to buy so many (I was 8 when I started ) Yeah I tend to dry brush quite rough as well, unless I'm feeling lazy , and it does get all over the face!

I feel kinda guilty that they are so similar, it looks like I stole his scheme! Hopefully when I paint some of my over guys, like the guard of the fountain court, the armies will diverge in appearance a little

Your eyes are not tricking you, the shield is indeed blue! The normal shield is painted a dark red but I felt the model had enough red already and I didn't want it to be black so I decided to paint it blue. An odd choice, I know, but it makes the model stand out in the sea of red and silver!

Thanks a lot buddy! My camera doesn't show up the highlighting I done on the clocks though which is a bit annoying but at least I'm not the only one using a phone camera

And Boromir? Yes, very much so, he's an awesome hero and should never be messed with! Pricey but I think he's worth every point and much more cost effective than Aragorn King Elessar. Who else has 6 might?

Yeah Boromir is definatly worth his points! 6 points of might is truely something special and you can't forget his horn which scares everyone off before you even have to fight You have yours with the banner don't you? It seems pretty good but its really expensive.. I have the model as well so I'm tempted to paint it up (although without the big red flag like yours )

Out of curiosity, does anyone else have one of these which gws produced back in 2002 (I think)

UPDATE: MORE PAINTED MODELS

Some more models painted but nothing exciting, just some more warriors.



And this bowman which is half completed. Just need to do the silver highlighting, the face and some other highlighting (Sorry about small picture again guys (stupid phone!))



Also I'm hoping to finish my make shift captain which I built using an upgrade kit gws supplied with one of their lotr magazines. All I done this by simply cutting off the old head, some simple filing down and glueing the new metal head one . Also, you can't see it but he has an eye-patch!!!!



After these models I'm going to start painting some more interesting models! I'm talking about Guard of the Fountain Court, Citidel Guard and another captain

It is coming I promise, didn't have time today as I have been gone from the house for 15hours, working and seeing the girlfriend so as you can tell, no time however I will be posting what I can of it up tomorrow, it is a bit larger than the other reports being double the points and I may split it in two, would make some great tension, I assure you that

The captain looks wicked, a bold stance roaring at the enemy, great job! What you say about the face, your right, there is something a little off, I think it may be the shape of the mouth maybe, that's what it looks like to me anyways

Fair enough then buddy! I've read over the first half already but I'll post my thoughts after the whole thing but you are right, it has produced tension

The mouth in general is pretty strange, it's slightly open with big lips and I'm not sure whether his tongue is in the opening or if it's his teeth but I repainted it and I'm much happier with the result (forgot to upload a picture though, woops!)




UPDATE

With the previous bunch of models finished it's time to move onto the next lot

So I've decided to paint 3 Guards of the Fountain Court, 3 Citadel Guards with Longbows (win) and my second Captain Who, exactly like the last captain, is converted by cutting of the models head with this one (Which you can't see that clearly ) The head is like an old man's head with short hair and a tash and goatee to go



Also Scotti has given me an idea from his own blog, to use Elendil as King of Men. This means if I don't want to use Boromir (Not sure when this would happen ) I have another high ranking leader Although Scotti is using Isildur I much prefer the look of Elendil

I also need some help with Faramir. I have a heavy armour version of him but I've lost his arm I've looked all around the house for it but alas its lost Anyway, does anyone have any ideas for making a new arm? Here is the model:





FINALLY I have a treat for you guys, I hope! While looking for the sword arm I came across this:





If you haven't work it out its a Fellowship of the Ring stand which was released (I believe) when the first came out! My mum claims that I have two of them (one for me and one for my brother) and that the models for it are with the other one! Which means I may have another 9 models lurking around the house (As if I need anymore )
This does explain why I don't have any of the fellowship models in my box, only later versions of the models

Here is a few pics with the mine of moria start set models on the stand which shows the kinda effect if should create.

If I ever get round to painting the whole Fellowship (and I hope I do) and I ever get a display cabinet this is so going in it
