I painted up this little guy today to test if the color scheme I have in mid for Blood Angels will work, and how will the actual colors look on the model (I dont really use GW colors, so i have to experiment around a bit )
The result is not bad at all (except the botched up decal that I really don't care about )
The base is also not exactly what I had in mind, and i did play around with some ideas

looks pretty good. The one criticism I would give is the same problem I have with my BA termies... which would be give the red some more depth with maybe brighter red highlights.
P.S. - Love the eyes BTW!

The red looks a little flat. Needs more depth.

How did you get the effect on those eyes, because they would look great on my marines

Dark angels green base, goblin green underline, P3 necrotite green highlight, and pure white dot in the corner of the eye. Pretty much by the book as they explain it in citadel "how to paint space marines" book Automatically Appended Next Post: aosol wrote:Use a flesh color mix for your highlights other wise he's a good looking ketchup man.
I should give that a shot. I did a bunch of highlights that dont show up because i probably went too dark, and I wanted to avoid going orange for highlights. Flesh color mixed in might work
I will paint up a new termie today or tomorrow and I will give that a shot Automatically Appended Next Post: Norn King wrote:OOO i like the base, very clever.
Glad you liked it
I wanted to do something completely different, but since he was already glued to the base, i couldn't cover it all with sand/gravel without burying his legs in it. When i saw the patch that was left I had this cartoonish revelation moment: this can be a road! I'm quite happy with how it came out, and I will probably base the whole army in the same theme Automatically Appended Next Post: reps0l wrote:The red looks a little flat. Needs more depth.
You are spot on with that critique. As i wrote previously, what I had in mind didnt work out. I will try something different on another model (and if it works, I will fix this one as well).

Cool. Apologies if the brevity of the comment made it seem harsh. Intent was to give my honest opinion without dwelling on the negative.
I'm looking forward to updates. The only thing I like more than awesome paint jobs is seeing when individuals improve upon their skills. Cheers.

I think everyone who paints BA's have this problem; trying to give red a good highlight. I refuse to mix orange into my red to give a birghter highlight. And if you add something like Bleached bone or white you jsut end up creating a pink highlight, so BA's have a delicate/limited highlighting color spectrum to choose from.
That being said, I like the pure red color you achieved.

Gore red, wash it black, and then add gore red to darkest spots transitioning to blood read to blazing orange to the extreme fine highlights of vomit brown (use sparingly) is the colors I would do if I was doing BA's - those colors might actually look more blood ravenish though.
This is the color scheme I used minus the vomit brown; I did not know about that highlight when I painted these. It is the recipe I listed for you above - hope it can help you get your colors the way you like.
