I started to keep a painting diary a while ago . I find it to be really helpful since I am painting a lot of different miniature over a long time . It 's a great way to keep all your painting recipes for miniatures you painted months or even years ago .

This is a book that I painted up myself .

I made a index for codes of paint companies .

Here is an example of one of my pages .

The only poorly painted miniature is the one that is not painted.

I'm gonna bump this up because it's an awesome idea that more painters like myself should use.
I use so many different colors I often forget what I was using if I take a break in the middle of a project.

It's actually a pretty good idea and one I should certainly use. The amount of times I spend ages deliberating on a paint scheme and then forgetting it when I actually get around to starting a project...

that is good idea! I have trouble sometimes which color I used for different figures, paint them, then see that they are different then the others.

I painted the cover of a cheap sketch book , thats all . You could use a 3 ring notebook if you wanted ,

Not to mention you can use it to practice emblems, squad markings and even free hand pictures you may want to use. If you're concerned about the size, just cut paper to size and glue it in later if you don't want to measure it out on the page.

Not the same I know, but it helps to experiment like that.

I have one of these, recently took a 6 month break then came back to painting, confident that I had written down everything I had painted on my last model, complete with colour swatches... and realised that I'd left out writing down what I did to the base.

Ah, well. You live and learn. Top tip: Remember to write down your base colours and method somewhere as well as the model colours.
