What's this? New toys to play with? Oh, joy! I always love new toys!
... err, right. Let's get on with this, shall we?
In order to celebrate my 1000th post here on Dakka, I've finally decided to contribute some of my own stuff. These Necrons which I will be showcasing are part of the very first army I have ever given serious consideration to building and collecting and gaming with.
As they were my first, I wanted to do something with them that was simple yet effective for their main color scheme, yet slightly different from what I've seen with other people's Necrons. Yes, I do like the silver or rusty metal look seen on most Necron armies. While I do give props to those who've spent some time with their troops, after awhile it gets boring seeing the same thing over and over again. That's why I decided on a sort of black-steel look for my Crons. I doubt my pictures will truly be able to capture what I'm trying to accomplish, and that could be either the lighting or my not-so-great painting skills, or a combination of the two. That being said, I would more than welcome some criticism and suggestions to help achieve the look for my army.
Alright, enough with the talk. The time for pics is NOW!
Some Immortals, getting prepped for a base coat before final assembly.
While I'm very grateful for the new plastic models since their unveiling in November, they have this rather annoying gap in their shoulder pauldron/blade/pad thingies. That's why I've been spending extra-time with them, and thus they as well as other models will take much more time to assemble.
My first two Crypteks. The one on the left is a Harbinger of Despair (Veiltek), and the one on the right is a Harbinger of Destruction (LanceTek). I am very happy I could find other people's variants on modelling the Crypteks without going towards the Finecast ones. I'm still a little hesitant to buy anything Finecast, but I might get one just to see.
From the back.
This is my experimentation on basing. Still relatively new to the concept, and I hope to learn from this experience.
These are the materials I'm using for basing. It's a bit difficult finding the right amount of glue to use on the bases, but I'll get there eventually, and I'm still not 100% sure if I'm using them correctly and such.
This was my first ever mini with basing. He's my test model, after a rather disastrous result of trying to paint him yellow on a black basecoat. Afterwards, his body was cruelly bastardized and abused for my own gain. I call him the DERP Marine.
Pity the crying DERP marine. Pity him.
Due to my hesitancy of ruining models, I didn't want to paint my Overlord (he's based so far). Luckily, I was able to obtain a second Annihilation Barge with the Overlord somewhat intact. He would later become my test model for the real thing. I really was struggling to come up with some good colors to make him all fancy-schmancy compared to the rest of the troops, and I figured some purple to contrast the gold would be good regal colors to bestow him in. Then I added on white and silver and tin later on.
Unfortunately, I feel like the purple is a bit too bright. Looks too much like he's a fan of Ancient Terra's Los Angeles Lakers team (if he even knew or cared who they were), in my opinion. I dunno, maybe it's a good thing? Anyways, ordered some darker colors to hopefully offset that. This model is the one I would most appreciate C&C for.
My latest and greatest: the Triarch Stalker. I immediately fell in love with this model when it was first revealed, and knew I had to get two. Then I got to assembly...
I only was just able to get the first fore-leg properly attached, and it was a pain to keep it on and not have it tip over somewhere dumb, and... ugh. Luckily, the back legs were much easier to deal with, so I have solid ground to base this metal creature on.
Another pic from above, looking very menacing.
I have a question, though: How to transport this thing?
That's it for now. I doubt I'll be posting frequently, so we'll see how this goes. Hopefully will do more progress on the Stalker and the troops as well. Later on, I'll have pics ready of the entire gang so far.
Please subscribe, and thanks for taking a look!

Thanks to everyone who replied thus far. I don't promise a fast-updating blog, but I do get work done over time.
Tauzor, I will go ahead and take a look at the battle foam sheets, thanks for that. Do you know if Battlefoam is compatable with Sabol Army Transport bags?

Simple Green! The Solution to every single miniature "Oops!" problem! Boy, am I glad I picked up this stuff. I used it on the Overlord Test model...
And presto! Looks just like he was primed. This stuff is like getting an inkboard eraser! I shall forevermore swear by it.
So, the Stalker is about 2/3rds of the way there. I just need to install the pilot, as well as the gun/s. I gotta say, has to be my favorite model from the Necron army.
Side view.

Got my first magnet attached!
I had some card-stock left over from a much earlier project that seemed to have grinded to a halt, so I used a bit for this project instead. Works just fine for me.
Then I drilled out/cut out a space for the other magnet into the Heat Ray...
And then glued it in.
And Presto! Works like a charm. Now, I just need to do this to the other two guns as well.
These were the magnets I used for this project. I ordered them through Miniwargaming as part of a special sale they were having at the time. This will be the very first (and successful!) usage of the magnets thus far.
I will be show-casing the finished Stalker as well as the army I possess so far later on, so stay tuned, and thanks for checking out my blog.

n0t_u, the grey is actually supposed to be silver. Maybe it's my lighting source that wasn't great, but yeah... Well, something for me to figure out later, I guess. Thanks for looking, though!

It's been awhile since I updated this thing. Life kept on getting in the way, especially work and such. Hopefully, I can get in one more update before I go incognito for a few weeks.
Got the magnetized pieces to finally work! Sorry, Stalker, had to turn you over to show off your new stuff...
... See?
So, I ran into a sudden problem, which is there is only one main body for three guns! Had a small panic attack, but I managed to fix it, just using more magnets than I originally planned for. Oh, well.
Heat Ray!
Particle Shredder!
TL Heavy Gauss Cannon! Unfortunately, I put the magnet on the front piece in the wrong way. I'll need to figure out a way to get it out of there...
And here's my Lord, who has lost his arm yet again... But wait! A teaser for later!!
Oh, and here's my Overlord, Lord Judicator Valdrakh. As you can see, he's a bit monochome, but hopefully that should change soon. Just a few more paint schemes with the test model, and he should have much more added on to him!

Oh yeah, quick thing I wanted an opinion on.
These were some Immortals I was able to complete awhile ago. As you can see, they're a bit... plain.
Especially the backs. I will get to painting the cords green and maybe the spine itself like a bronze color, but for the shoulder pads, not sure. Any suggestions to make them with a bit more pizzazz would be much appreciated.

Wow, it's been too long since I last updated. Work has not been kind to me in terms of hours. Now, the job's done, I have my last paycheck, and I just need to start gearing up for school now!
So, my update:
One of my finished Deathmarks. I have about five of these guys so far, but I hope to expand that to ten.
The back I wanted to paint in order to differentiate between the power modules which allowed for them to slip in-between dimensions, and the ones powering the models themselves.
Here's a sergeant-equivalent model who leads this particular group of assassins. "But Dr. Temujin, Necrons don't have sergeants or whatnots. This goes against the fluff that Mat Ward put out!"
Well, THESE Necrons are outcasts from their own Dynasty, so shut up.
And a group shot. See their devious little smiles?
I finally figured out a good color scheme for my Necron Overlord! While laying down and having a nap one day, I suddenly had this vision appear to me... Egyptian... A Gold and Deep Blue Headcrest... I had it! I had what I truly needed. And it turned out great for me.
As he stands now, he's far from finished, but I have yet to decide what I want for his metal cape, plus anything else I want to paint for him. I feel like he has something really good going for him so far, but... where to go next?
The aforementioned test model, whom I owe much for its sacrifice for good color schemes. Maybe he'll become an Overlord in his own right... Or I'll just keep abusing it.
I'm horrible...
So, what does everyone think about the white? Detracts too much, or great where it is?
Thanks for taking a look!

Back again! I had a week in Hawaii with my uncle and cousin, just cruising about the island. It was fun!
Now, then, back to the war-gaming...
This is my VeilTek model. I figured he needed more shadow-y colors to represent his abilities in combat, so I went with a dark purple and blue thing, interspersed with Mithril Silver, to denote his importance.
A rear-side shot. Again, using teleport technology, the orbs were painted blue.
And a side shot. He's almost finished, I just need to paint up his Abyssal Staff first.
Will you look at this poor fella. After losing both his arms and legs in a horrific accident involving a rogue Tomb Blade, this Praetorian's luck is pretty much down. Moreover, someone didn't paint his torso yet! Or at least, hasn't decided on what to paint it.
Oh, there he goes, turning his face away from the world in shame. Don't worry, little guy. We'll get you not only your limbs back, but a fabulous new ride for compensation!
Working with white paint is a very difficult process. In fact, it's quite frustrating trying to get a clean, smooth layer of the stuff, not to mention it uses up lots of other paints that are required. Not sure if these pics can illustrate my point, but on closer detail, you can definitely tell it's not a great job.
I think I'll give this guy a Green bath later tonight. I recall seeing a blog by a Mister Deadshot which utilized the new Lahmian Medium to help the process of applying paints to a black undercoat. Tomorrow, I plan to go to my FLGS and pick up some up and see if that can thin the paint better than water. Maybe I'll get some Liquid Green Stuff as well.
Stay tuned!

Hey; I gots a shoutout! In regards t Medium, the way I' been working it is that I put the relevant paint on the pallette and add in the Medium by letting it drip from the end of my brush, and the last drop I rinse the brush and mix it together. You only need a drop or two for your thinning, cuz if you apply too much to thins it out too much and it'll be no better than water thinned paint.
But we're here to discuss those fabulous Necrons up there! They look fantastic, I especially like the VeilTek, the colpurs you used really suit him. As for the White, the maximum resolution and zoom on my phone makes it seem perfectly smooth but by your text it seems maybe not? If your having problems use a basecoat of pale somwthing, Ceramite White or Dheneb stone and layer from there. If you use Dheneb then the layer between the white and stone should be a 50/50 mix of the two to ease transition. Take these with a pinch of salt as I have never tried it myself but I can't expect it to be too bad.
Anyway, looks great and I can't wait to see what happens to that body of a Praetorian.

Hey, thanks, Deadshot! I actually got to use the Medium quite a lot today. I decided that one drop was plenty for the paint to get it nice and thin. I haven't had a chance to use it with white or yellow, but I have some high hopes for it now that I have used it with other problem colors. Thanks again!
Remember these guys?
As I had mentioned previously in this blog, I was having some trouble trying to figure out how to not make the Immortals so plain. Then it hit me: why not use some of the same colors as for My Overlord?
Already they look much better IMO, though I may want to do something about their white-heads. I also gave their gun-cords a paint job as well. I plan to perhaps experiment a bit with their spinal columns, see if I can't do anything with those as well, break up the black a bit.
Last but not least, I fixed up the VeilTek's staff!
You can't see him very well, but that is, indeed, my LanceTek enjoying a nice green soak. Well, at least I think he's enjoying it. I can't tell, I didn't paint his face yet.
Well, that's all I have to today. Thanks for taking a look at this blog!

Another update today! I am on a roll!! This will have to compensate for when I go back to school next week. Now don't get me wrong, school by itself isn't bad, I am learning lots of stuff I want to learn anyway, but it requires lots of time, time which I cannot get back to my army soon enough, and it saddens me. And so, it is this thought which propels me to get as much done this week before that time.
Well, then, time for the update!
The Heat Ray, Painted!! Boy, am I glad how this one turned out. I actually didn't have any orange colors in my giant collection of paint pots (seriously, why do I have so much??), so I ended up mixing Blood Red and Sunburst Yellow. This was a blessing disguised as a curse, as I figured I could make the orange lighter or darker as my need dictated, and I was able to achieve (sorta) this nice orange glow.
The side of the gun. Again, really glad how this came out.
and back.
Now that I look at it, the heat ray almost makes the Gauss Cannon look a bit plain. I need to figure out if I'm missing anything with this one, or if it's just my imagination. What do you guys think?
And speaking of plain... Could really use some C&C for the particle gun.
Heat Ray on the Stalker. Yeah, looks pretty good. Now, if I can just get around to finishing the driver, I should be solid.
Stay tuned, and thanks for looking at my blog!

Well, whaddya know? Our Praetorian got his arms and legs back! And a somewhat-decent paint job for his torso! The pauldrons are still a bit shiny IMO, at least in the picture. But hey, that's not all...
The Triarch Stalker is DONE!!
And here's a side view. It looks all fancy-schmancy now that it's out of the box and all. Looking forward to putting him on the Tabletop for the first time! Now, let's see if I can find a quick way to transport him for the time being... Or if I can get a game in soon...
Well, more to come. I still have more Crypteks to assemble and paint, as well as a Doomsday Ark, so we'll see how that goes!

I really like the matt black, gold and green design on the stalker. Very nice, like the one they put in WD.

@prototype_X: Thank ye kindly!
@Deadshot: Thanks. Most if not all of my vehicles will be pretty much like the ones they show on WD. The Stalker doesn't have that green glow, though.
