I have been experimenting with a rust colour scheme for my small ork army, I have been using shades of orange dry brushed onto a dark red then lots of washes.

Its a nice rust effect, especially for just using paints. Presume your going to add in more detail tho?

I would have done a color and rust around it not fully rust. like my jets have rust on the exhaust and engine.

I did a similar thing to this but i painted the parts i wanted rusted orange then stippled tin bitz (not sure what is called now) and then lightly stippled boltgun over that. i found i got more of a metal with rusted parts on it opposed to the full orange sort of look you have going. but that's just how i do mine its up to you to figure out what you like more.

I am going to add a lot more detail, this is just the base layer of detail. Lots more drybrushing and details to go

I'd add a few different types of metal, for the sake of variety. It makes it look more scavenged if it's made of different types of metal.
Will you be adding paint over the rust? By that I mean an orky coat of colour that's fading/flaking off.
Whatever you do, that's a great effect you've got going, remember to post pictures of the end result!

hey man i do orks as well and i use two different technieques for rust the first
Boltgun metal then a black ink wash
when thats dry a scorched brown wash quite liberally around the resizes and raised area
then finally a wash of bestial brown right in close to the resized area and raise bits
this gives a just starting to rust metal effect and the second technique i use is
scorched brown base
stipple with bestial brown
then stipple with a bestial brown, troll slayer orange mix but lightly then highlight with mithril silver
using the two together along with a copper colour with i can tell you the technique for if you want is how i do metal on my irks this gives them a really scavenged look as there are lots of types of metal on there not just all the same
hope this helps
