It took me a while to get the ball rolling this year. Some changes to the family situation along with xbox for Christmas meant that the hobby time took a bit of a hit. But it seems that during the last couple of weeks things have stabilized so that I can get a bit of time to paint. The first figs I have managed to finish this year are these two additions to my Malifaux resurrectionists: Flesh Construct and Sebastian the morgue assistant.

I have kept the turquoise cloth to tie these fellows to their work place and used the same method to paint the dead skin as with the mantic ghouls some time ago. Otherwise pretty basic paint jobs, I'm trying to get the rest of my ressers painted so that I have this small side project finished so next up is Rotten Belle along with a Punk Zombie. I had a bit of problem with the camera so the images are not too good, trying to sort it out for the next batch.

And finally a family shot of the finished body stealers:

Nice looking bunch, very characterful.

As a comment, the blood on the big guys hook looks better than the stuff on the saw blade and on the apron IMO, not sure what has happened there. Have you tried Tamiya Clear Red for blood effects?

Now the turquoise that I saw on the first guy makes more sense as I see more of these guys. As a hindsight maybe more hospital type pastel green would have been more appropriate

Thanks for the comments Northen!

The blood is needed partly done with Tamiya clear red, the most fresh looking part to be exact. I first paint the area with a mix of red, black and purple inks mixed with water and then the area with most fresh blood is given coat of clear red. I got a bit carried away with the small guys blood. I considered repainting the apron completely, but in the end felt lazy and let it be as a notice to be more careful in the future.

The studio paint job of these guys uses green and I wanted to push my limits with brighter colors than I usually paint, but at the same time try a bit original colors so I ended up with the turquoise. There is nothing that says hospital more than pastel green though

Another update within a week of the last one and containing another fully painted fig? I'm on fire. This time I have finished first of the living impaired escorts. As she is not part of the morgue crew I went with another main color on the clothes, but kept the off white and turquoise in there as well to tie her with my other ressers. She was nice and quick to paint, a bit more work this time on the skin as she has a bit more visible than the flesh construct. I'm quite pleased with the face. The skirt has more prominent highlights and shadows in real life, the camera took some away. After I have the rest of the figs I need to play painted, I might go back and add some dirt to the hem of the skirt as it looks too clean now. This is the first resser in my crew without any blood.

Next up is punk zombie after, which I have two canine remains to paint for the 25 stone crew.

Thanks, it is quite easy to achieve. Just base coat with deneb stone or similar off white color. Then wash the flesh areas with purple, red brown etc. After the washes the skin looks quite dark and has nice spotted look to it. After this highlight the flesh area with base color which has some white added to it. I usually drybrush the areas with quite dilluted paint to allow the washes to show from below the highlight. Then in final phase add some very thin glazes of green and purple to add a bit extra variation.

Thanks, I like the GW's orks a lot and have painted a full FB ork army for 6th Ed. I don't have time to do that kind of projects anymore so I try to get some figs done here and there when inspiration comes. This thread is the documentation of my ADD painter madness and the small projects I do in between my main armies Skorne and Cygnar for Warmachine and Hordes.

I still have around 10 malifaux figs unpainted, but won't most likely paint all of them now. Just the figs that allow me to try the Morgue crew on the table top. There are some infinity and confrontation figs started on the table too and a nice soda pop fig is also crying for some attention. Tough choices to make what to paint first

Today I bring to see some shots of the latest recruit to my undead force going for world domination: a samurai punk zombie. He is still missing the last couple of licks of paint and blood effects to the blades, but otherwise he is finished. I went with turquoise shirt and red skirt to bring some needed warmth to the fig. The skin succeeded this time really well, I like the face a lot. He has such a nice expression. The swords were a bit of pain as they are made so thin and from so soft metal that they suffer very easily from bendy sword syndrome. I think he wont survive for long without some damage to the paint job even with added care in handling.

Anyways give me your opinion on him, next up I'll paint the two canine remains I have gotten for the good doctor before completing the first phase with a nurse.

Thanks MrMerlin, with these figs I have been trying to use new techniques on painting with the clothes been one of the main areas for development.

The red is painted in more usual way for me, starting with solid base coat with mid color and then doing the shadows and highlights after that with slightly thinned paint. The turquoise is painted with more of a wash approach and the shadow color is very dark blue gray, which creates nice contrast but has to be applied more carefully than in my traditional way. Both seem to work quite well and the variation in techniques keeps the painting fresh for me.

During the weekend I had time to give the punk zombie some gore and get some work done on first of the canine remains.

The punk zombie is now finished, the only improvement to the last pictures is the blood. It was done by applying the first coat using old citadel inks and then on top of it I added some fresh blood using mix of Tamiya clear red with hint of black painted added to give it more dark appearance. I'm really pleased at how it looks, especially after the disaster that happened with blood and morgue assistant.

I'll also give you a work in progress pic of the canine remain. I browsed the nets for suitable dogs to use as inspiration for this fellow and came to the conclusion that he is a English bulldog and tried to paint him as such. The fur is is pretty much done, only blood effects missing. There are a lot of small details like the teeth still undone, but he is getting close to be done. That leaves just the second canine remain and nurse to be painted from the first batch of Malifaux figs. After those two I'll probably take bit of a break from Malifaux to get some Rackham figs done, or at least that is the plan now. Let's see how the inspiration goes

Looking good, Metsuri - I ordered my first Malifaux model last week, in the form of the Mobile Toolkit.

Have you had any experience with the Wyrd base inserts, out of interest?

Thanks for the comment Dysartes, the wyrd models are nicely detailed and often a bit different to the main stream mini lines. They make for a nice change. Hope to see the toolkit soon all assembled and painted.

I haven't had any experience with the base inserts, they were not available when I got my lot of Ressers and I ended up getting these Micro Art cobblestone bases for my army. They look really nice, some of them a bit too busy perhaps, but the scale and detail seem really great.

They seem to be quite unpredictable these days. My latest order was sent really fast and was on my door step within a week, which is really fast from UK to Finland, but my friend who ordered before me is still waiting for his order to be sent. Quite frustrating as it seems that the store's in stock values cannot be trusted. Hope you get your figs soon.

Well, it is listed as "Packing" at the moment - unfortunately, I'd ordered when I did so that (assuming packed & posted the following day) it would turn up on one of the two days this week I'm working from home. Odds now are that Royal Mail will try and deliver when I'm at work, meaning it'll be next Wednesday before I can pick them up - unless the order turns up next Tuesday.

During the weekend it was nice and sunny and I found some time to stay indoors to get these pics of my first canine remain finished. It was really nice and easy mini to paint, a lot character and it kind of painted itself after I looked a bit at the images of English Bulldogs in the web. Some details have been added since the last pics along with a lot of blood to make it clear that he is a bit living impaired. In the end I'm really pleased how the small fellow turned out.

The last pic is just to show that apparently you can play also Malifaux like you have a pair

I still have one canine remain, this one a dobermann, and nurse to paint of the initial batch of Malifaux minis. I have been enjoying them so much that I think I won't stop there, but I'm going to paint the rest of Ressers I have bought. So you might see the rest of the punk zombies with rotten belles sooner than later. I did get one of my Rackham drune barbarians stripped of old paint though, so might also start to paint them after I've got the initial 25 stone crew of ressers painted.

That's a nice-looking zombie dog, Metsuri.

Maelstrom eventually shipped my order, but RM tried to deliver it while I was out, so it'll be Wednesday before I can pick it up :(

I am considering taking advantage of their 5% cashback deal to order either the Ramos or Hoffman starter sets, though.

That was too bad, at least you don't have to wait too many day though. Both of those sets are nice - steamborg is one of my favorites, but I think that I would get the Hoffman set. Purely from modelling/ painting point of view. I have no idea how they play out of box. Still haven't played a game of Malifaux, even though I bought most of these figs when the first rule book came out.

There is some disease going on here, Ifalna is doing some squigs and couple weeks ago my daughter asked me why I haven't painted this nice gobbo. I was going through my bits box looking for Thead bits and had lifted this one squig hopper out of the box. I bought full set of them when WHFB 7th edition came out, as I had been playing orks in the 6th and have a nice big army, but couldn't get into painting them and there they still were in the box, assembled and primed. But after the ecouragement from Ella, I got it to the desk and after couple of hours here he is. Quite fast paint job to table top level, nothing fancy. Just a quick distraction between the projects really. Thought there was some room to add skulls as the model has none, so one was glued to the base

Yeah, apparently good doctor has a thing for dogs. I did paint a buddy for him too, but as a dobermann he is so dark that the pics didn't succeed so well. It's hard so see the blood and puss against almost black fur :(

Still have to get the nurse painted to meet my goal for Malifaux this spring.

This is my entry, the Nomad Hellcat with HMG. I had this model prepared and primed before the contest and that was the reason for selecting it. I went with plan to make the Nomad's colors nice and harmonious and then have the weapons and base bring some contrast to the entry, which worked up to certain level. I paid attention to getting smooth blending and nice color transitions.

One of the focus areas in the entry is the base, which was made to balance the fig as the original pose is looking too much down for my taste and the new base was done to fix this. I tried to paint it in colors complementing the main figure, but at the same time tried to keep it a bit understated to keep it from dragging attention from the main figure.

In the end I'm quite pleased with both the end result and my place in the results. It would have been nice to get some free hand mixed in the wings or other armored areas, but I didn't have time to try it out. Without it the fig doesn't have the pop that would be required to place in a competition with this level of entries. But to place 12th in this level of competition is really satisfying and I think I learned a lot in painting my entry.

Really cool entry! The body is very nicely painted, my only critique would be that the highlights on the gun could look a little cleaner.... but other that that its perfect!

I agree about the gun. It kind of threw me out of balance with this figure as I painted it with the gun as separate piece, and when the gun was glued on it became a lot more dominating piece than I originally had thought. I should have given it more time and color to make it a focal point in the figure instead of trying to subdue it with limited highlights and dark color.

I am very satisfied with my blending and color choises on the clothes so there is a lot I'm happy with and will now paint more figs to this level than before.

The infinity models are such a treat, and you have done great job with the painting.

Agree that the gun might need something. Also the "blades" on the backpack thing could use some markings or transfers to break the yellow-brown a bit. Maybe using some dark blue.

Thanks Northen, the figure as you said is really great and was a joy to paint once I got started. The detail is so nice and sharp I was a bit intimidated in the beginning. I hope you like the base, I tried to take inspiration from your basing on the wolves but give it my own twist. I really like what you have achieved with your bases and tried to capture similar feeling.

I agree also about the markings on the backpack, there is some room in those for marking and dark blue with a bit of turquoise would hit the spot well. Small details like that really elevate a miniature to completely new level.
