The Last Chancer Who Survived

United Kingdom

Been very busy today. Painted up 10 IG troopers, a Black Templars' Sword Brother, a Razorback and a Dreadnought.

That dreadnought is now covered in a ludicrous amount of bling.

Brother Bitzboxius wants to know if he, too, has a ludicrous amount of bling, or simply a lot.

I think Brother Bitzboxius can decide for himself... I mean, no one is going to argue with that guy!

Between Ripper Street and The Hobbit, I've been watching far too much TV and doing far too little hobbying over the last couple of days. Should get some more Word Bearers done tomorrow, and I'm messing around with ideas for a new homemade rules/minis project. That said, it could end up being a complete non-starter, unless I can find a way of integrating something equivalent in size to a 28mm Land Raider (possibly bigger...) into a 6mm scale game ruleset...

I'm not gonna lie, I haven't finished painting...

But the models are painted enough... Ish.

I've got the bits and pieces and terrain together. However, the trick now is, I need to figure out how to fit it all together into a reasonable number of boxes.

So I dropped into the shop to pick up a new standard brush that finally came in...(I have no idea why the shop isn't being restocked on those...I had to order one off the website ), and I just discovered that the skitarri transfer sheets are back in stock, so I got one of those ordered.

I might get some more painting done later.

FINALLY finished the first unit of Hithaeglir Goblina.

And wound up finishing about ½ of the rest of the Greater-Goblins in the process.

Went and bought REAL model primer (not Rustoleum or other "auto-body primers"). Thrilled with the results. Will never by another non-fine detail primer again.

In the process of buying the Primer, I went and bought the materials to finish basing the armies I am currently working upon (Hithaeglir Goblins/First Age Morgoth Orcs, First Age Sindarin/Third Age Mirkwood Silvan Elves - close enough for the time being, Éotheod/Rohirrim).

I have discovered that it is easier to finish them if I get all of the bases completely prepped, with the model locations fixed, before finishing painting all of the models.

Buying a small army of Skitarii Rangers and AWESOME Cyborg-Ninjas together with the codex and hopefully start assembling them.

GW is gonna rip my wallet to shreds if they keep up with this quality throughout the year.

I started lighting up some old GF9 resin green crystals.

Crystals in muted daylight and lit up. There was a fault with the little crystal one, it had to be replaced.

Darkened room, all lit up. 3v dc battery pack, 3 3mm green LEDs in parallel with current limiting resistors.

Had a bloodbath of a 40k game today. 1500, BA/GK vs SW/Inq, kill points. Ended 9-7 to my opponent on T6, with a grand total of 10 minis left standing.

The first few turns, I was convinced I was going to win, and easily; my all-DS army rolled not even a single scatter, only 1 unit was even delayed, and in the alpha strike I killed off 1.5 GH squads, a DCA/Crusader squad, half the TWC and Karamazov himself (not before his OSR killed most of a Terminator Squad, though), for very few casualties in return.

Then it all went to hell...

I hit the TWC with my SangGuard, killing so but the Wolf Lord, who then totalled the squad in a single round with 8 S8 AP1 attacks. He then, on his turn, manages to reach my newly arrived Death Company, and slaughter them and a Tactical Squad I sent to help out over a few rounds. Meanwhile, and Axe/Shield VenDread duelled my only Grey Knight Termies for the whole game, not a single blow getting through his 3++ and generally denying me the use of one of my most dangerous units. The Wolf Guard Termies avenged Karamazov by hammering my TDA Captain to paste, and the last GH just managed to beat down my plucky Scout Squad before the game ended.

All in all, a red day for the warriors of Baal and Titan, but I darsay a reckoning will be had soon enough. For my first proper game of 7th it was certainly a bloody affair, and it was great to see so many of my recently painted units get their baptism of fire. It was the first time me Axe/Shield Dread had hit the table, and I was pretty amazed at how durable that thing is!

Not much hobby-wise. Our crafts area is being moved to a different area of the house, so I've been packing up sprues and incomplete minis so that tables can be moved soon.

Meanwhile, I had a fantastic project idea when I woke up this morning, and if someone steals this idea, I will be utterly disappoint, but I want to share the idea anyways: Orks riding dinosaurs. (Dakkasaurs?) I have a small number of boyz, and their legs are spread wide enough that they could conceivably be riding a cavalry/bike sized dino. Raptor bikerz, Triceratops battlewagon, all with cybernetic implants, crude armor plates, and weapons emplacements covering their bodies? C'mon, what's not to love?

Welp, I'm off to the Internet to look for some dinosaur models.

So, with International Tabletop Day on Saturday, I did indeed... play lots of games!

I hosted 3 Deadzone Demo Games, including someone who was traditionally a pure boardgamer commented to me, "it looked really intimidating at the start, but turned out not being scary once I got into it."

Admittedly, the intimidation factor might be because I went a TINY bit overboard on the terrain...

I also played a quick card game of "Just Desserts" (It turns out my pattern recognition is rubbish).

I then took part in a 'Cash'n'guns' tournament, coming in second place.

And, finally, I took part in 'X-Wing Mario Kart' and came in, well... Last place. I seemed to have an affinity for ending up in the range of a bomb. I did better in the second game I played, taking first place before the game was called.

And, of course, as it was TabletopDay, lots of loot available and I came away with.

"The Blackmailer" special ability in cash'n'guns. (which I don't own)
"Tabletop Cards" for Fluxx (which I don't own)
And finally,
2 "Film Photograph" Han Solo pilot cards for X-Wing. Which is just flipping awesome

Finished cleaning the second half of one SW gribbly I had started. That's all I've been able to do in the last two days and all I'll likely be able to for the next. After such a streak of productivity, it's a bit disheartening.

Just got done with some assembly work and posting it up on my hobby thread, paradigm's contest thread, tumblr, and facebook. I'm totally going to need decide on a method so that I don't have to do separate entries. Assembly work took maybe 20 minutes... probably less... the other stuff? maybe a couple hours.

Yesterday evening I undercoated some enforcers and later in that day I neatened up the undercoat with my airbrush. I also managed to hit the red accents with the airbrush before getting distracted for the rest of the day. All that's left now is conventional painting, and not whole lot of that, I leave a lot of the white undercoat alone for these guys as dipping them pretty much takes care of it for me.
