So the other day a friend of mine tells me he has this model that he's had for ages and not done anything with, its the FW Keeper of Secrets. Being the mental Chaos enthusiast that i am i jump at the chance to get to build and paint a model that i will probably never get to own! So i get it home and tip out the contents, OMG! 4 racks of teeny tiny spikes! Yikes! no wonder he didnt wanna touch it! lol!

So after removing mold lines and pinning all the joints for extra stability i put the whole thing together! It really is a gorgeous kit to work with (millions of tiny spikes aside lol). I heat the "hair" strands in some hot water and they bend easily to shape and glue nicely to the stalks on the back of the head. The Long nails on the left hand have to be attached separately too but fortunately FW have arranged them in order on the sprue so that makes the job simpler! As for those spikes i had to apply superglue to the end of a paperclip and drop it carefully into the little indents on the leg and chest, then delicately pick up one spike at a time between my finger tips (tried tweesers, lost 2 as the pinged off round the room! Luckily there's spares!) and bring the model to the spike. It must have taken me 4 hours just to do all the spikes! At the end of it there it stood! very tall!

Now fully assembled i had to do something about the joins! A model like this is supposed to have perfectly smooth skin and the gaps and joints were far too prominent to be ignored! So i tried GW's new liquid greenstuff and have to say i'm very impressed! A couple of thick blobs to fill areas, leave to dry then apply a smoothing coat and brush with a bit of water for an even smoother finish! Happy with the joints i moved my attention to the base. My friend plays both 40k and fantasy so i couldn't go too scenic or themed, nobody likes to see dead marines in fantasy! lol. I opted for some nice and simple boulders and skulls, evident in both worlds and not too distracting from the model itself!

Now we reach the painting stage! Since i was going for a pink colour scheme i decided to prime with a Montana Gold Gonzo purple. now having never used a colour base before i absolutely panicked when it first went on, all the details disappeared and the whole model looked caked in paint! Luckily a friend of mine who was there at the time reassured me that having used this paint before, it does appear to go on like that but dries into details and it a very shiny finish so only appears to cover details, he was right! So i made a start on the model with several layers of dry brushing (as i always do). warlock purple, to tentacle pink, to bleached bone and a little skull white, this is my style of painting and its not seen me wrong so far! I then coated the horns and scythe arms in scorched brown and built up a bone finish with dry brushing bleached bone, washed aggrax earth and then dry brushed again bone. the raised arm and right leg i decided to follow the FW design style with a slick black latex look (fitting for any Slaanesh deity), this was easy to achieve with just a simple layer of black followed by a slap of black gloss, its such a simple thing and adds an extra level of sicklyness when used on bloody areas or in this case the ropey hair and large red tongue. Then came the task of picking out all those spikes again! An easy dab of mithril silver and then a wash of badab black did the job a treat. I finished off the face with patches of Warlock purple and Enchanted blue and decided the eyes should be made of gold to flow with the opulent Slaanesh style.

Nicely done! I was a bit leery about you relying so heavily on drybrushing, but the effect works quite well, even at only a slight distance. You smoothed out those unsightly gaps quite skillfully, too - were it not for the early WIP shots, I wouldn't be able to tell where the model was parted, no matter how hard I tried.

This looks brutal mate. I don't envy you having to deal with all those teeny tiny spikes.
