Io, Saturn

I've started an army and i can't for the life of me tell what i'm doing wrong, though i can definitely see it. What can i do to clean these models up a bit? highlighting, color fading etc! please comment and help i would really appreciate it. More pics of my stuff on my WIP and in my gallery. Thanks DAKKA!

Personally, I don't think it's the paintjob that doesn't look right; it's the random array of weapons hanging off of his shoulder. It just doesn't seem to 'work".

The paintjob is actually pretty reasonable, but could do with some highlighting on the metallics.

was my attempt at a kind of tech marine termi. It honestly looks better IRL. But i certainly appreciate the input! Could you be more specific about highlighting? i don't have much experience in the area! :(

Highlighting is a technique where you apply a lighter shade to the edges of the piece to make the outline more visually distinct. You'd highlight boltgun metal with silver, or red with orange, for example. The gun array just looks like spare parts glued on, there's no cutting or trimming to make it look like the armor was actually build that way.
