This weekend I had another chance to play my favorite rules-lite, fast-paced, generic miniatures game "Song of Blades and Heroes". This time it was with members of the Northern Illinois LEGO Train Club so of course we used LEGO terrain including a model of Andy's room from Toy Story and parts of Futurama city. Given the choice I still prefer SBH with painted miniatures a bit more, but this was a nice diversion and a heck of alot of fun!

Brief AARs, more pictures and a short comparison to "Brikwars" at our Club's Blog here:

What sets are those axes from?

Also, I'd totally actually put my Kreo Transformers in bot mode if I could play a wargame with them...

The clip-on axe heads are from the oop Vikings sets, but have appeared in other sets as seen here:
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2012/07/song-of-bricks-and-lego.html

Currently they appear in a few Ninjago sets, and most of the LoTR LEGO sets have them as well.

If you want a fast paced, easy-to-learn wargame with mechs/robots, I'd recommend "Mech Attack!". it comes with paper mechs you can print and cut out, but I prefer to play it with oop Mechwarrior Clix figures that I've rebased, and it would be just as easy to use LEGO or Kreo Mechs, possibly with doubling the ranges of movement and firing. It's got alot of the same aspects of Battletech (heat, multiple wepons, damage grids, etc) but is a fraction as complex and takes about 1/4 of the time to play.
You can get it here:

I just got SBH a few days ago, looks great and cant wait to start playing. Funny you should also mention Mech Attack, as I have my printed copies of SBH and Mech Attack in the same binder.

Lately Ive been really getting into these "light" games. I just dont feel the attraction to large scale armies and overly complex special rule fests like 40k anymore.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too
