Hi folks, I've been working on my second Inquisitor scale Vanguard marine, have gotten far enough that I thought I'd give a sneak peek at some of it. Keep in mind that it's still very WiP, the plasma pistol is mostly finished (will give it a onceover later for minimal tweaks and touchups), the legs are mostly done but will get some studs and bling a bit later. Everything else is very rough but thought I'd give a mockup preview anyway.

Jump pack and melee weapons coming up soon, starting lightly on one or both of them tonight. Still a bit undecided on melee weapon, I have heaps of ideas and will likely start on several. Seeing as I'm planning on 5 vanguards in the end it's just about matching poses with weapons..

Enjoy, C&C welcome.

Hi all, finished a poweraxe for this guy and figured I'd post a few pictures. Some tiny things will still be tweaked but quite happy with the result as is.

Pretty much one of the most badass marines out there. Can't wait to see more pictures and ofc. the paints!

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Thanks both of you, feel free to pop over and check out my first inquisitor scale vanguard, should tickle your fancy if you're already liking what you're seeing here.

Thank you kindly for the compliment. All the metal you're seeing is from the inquisitor scale Artemis figure, a lot of pieces have been cut and reposed or reshaped. I've used regular greenstuff, a mixture of greenstuff and milliput, and liquid greenstuff (mainly for final touchups).

The plasma pistol was based on a plasmacannon from the venerable dreadnought kit, it was cut down and reshaped and got some smaller bits from random stuff (marine backpack vents, IG mortar grenade fins assembly, a short piece of sprue, etc).

On the poweraxe all the white bits are styrene sheet/rods (aka plasticard), gray bits are mostly cut up from a hunter killer missile and a piece of imperial sector scenery (not sure which kit, it was a small vertical box thing with a tube exhaust at the top). The axe handle is a piece of wood (similar to bbq skewers) wrapped with a thin strip of painter's tape (white tape with a slight papery texture) that was then "painted" with a few layers of watered down liquid green stuff. Quite a fun build that axe.

A bit more progress, as I wanted to repose this guy's right arm and had to cut if off the shoulder anyway, I decided to just build him a bionic arm instead. Glue's still drying on some parts so the cables for example will be tweaked still, also general cleanup to come. Should also note that the shoulderpad isn't finished yet.

Feedback welcome, as always. Oh and not sure if the pic will show up big enough inpost, but clickie and zoomie oughta work.

Been working on the jump pack, still needs a bit of tidying and putting together, it's still in individual bits. Finishing touches like studs, cables and bling are coming later. And don't mind the jets being stuck on with bluetac, will sort that out with greenstuff later. Also thinking some armour plating on the top.

Awesome job! Makes me want to break out my Inquisitor stuff and finish it.

What did you use for the large tubes on the engine part of the jet pack?

Those are from the wheels of a large scale jeep model.

Thanks, this is #2 out of my planned 5 vanguards.

Bit of progress on the jump pack. The greenstuff is still drying but will be sanded after that, other than tidying up it's missing some studs, also undecided between a skull and/or a chapter emblem on the rear plates in the middle.

C&C appreciated.

Been wrapping stuff up, some final polishing and bling bling to come before it's done, but here's a mockup of everything so far.

Minor update, painting has begun. I've so far finished up the helmet, except now with a large picture I notice minor needs for improvement (worked on it late last night before bed). The bionic eye was just a bit of milliput slapped on, shaped, then covered in plasticard. Last minute additions to the body were studs on the chest, a purity seal (greenstuff with a plastic skull icon off some 40k model) and grenades on the belt. Also on the leg a small canister of some sort from a black templar bit and a pouch.

These are turning out amazing. Quick question, did you sculpt the helmet or did you get it somewhere? I got an inquisitor scale artemis kit and its just a standard "screaming face" bare head.

GW made several upgrade kits for Inquisitor minis. One was a marine kit which included the helmeted head. Unfortunately they don't sell them any more (as far as I can tell) so they're quite rare.

As GCMandrake already replied, it's a hard to find upgrade. I've gotten all mine from ebay. There's two auctions for helmets on there right now, hefty starting bid but generally they go for around that much.

yikes! i looked up those auctions, i got my Artemis kit for half that. I may just buy a 12 inch ribbon of greenstuff and start practising my sculpting.

the chest armour seems very small, compared to a regular marine. I'm surprised it doesn't go lower.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

It's the regular artemis chestpiece, it's even bit bigger since I've made it uniform with greenstuff, and the stomach is a bit thicker too.

It just looks different than 28mm scale because it's not short and stubby, it's more realistic really.

I like the bionic arm.

Painting is progressing, even if a bit slowly at times. Here's some new snaps. The plasmapistol arm and head are pretty much done, everything else is still in progress. Gonna do lightning on the axe, jump pack needs highlights (and another pass with shadowing), axe arm needs tidying and then there's the whole body.
