I plan on taking on an Eleysian Drop Troops army with 6 Valkyries and 3 Vendettas, my only anti-flyer being a doom scythe and a Bastion w/ Quad Gun.

As per the title, am i out of my mind?

Vendettas can skyfire. A lot of people would regard that list as TFG/WAAC.

I count 5 anti-fliers right there...

He's taking on 6 valk and 3 ven with his army of Necrons, which has a Doom Scythe and a Quad gun for anti-air defence.

Imo you're going to get smashed.

Your Doom Scythe is toast, but I think the bastion could do some serious damage, unless he concentrates fire and takes it out quick.

Depends on what else you're bringing. The mass auto-glance capability of necrons means that if you're bringing enough shots, you'll be able to take down those fliers with nothing but a bunch of 6's.

I say try to gun down the Vendettas and Valks, but don't focus too much on that, they are threatening, but their firepower is largely redundant (I have never, ever thought "boy, I could sure use 9 twin-linked lascannons against a single ground target") outside of killing super heavies. That should actually be an apocalypse formation, titan hunting Vendetta squadrons. Back on topic, he will likely have little ground forces compared to you, so try and wipe out his ground forces completely. Doesn't have much hope of winning if he can't capture any objectives.

Actually, he might have more troops than Buttons says, they are Elysians, not regular IG.

No. You are not out of your mind because 40k is a game and you can enjoy any match, even if it looks like an auto loss in your mind.

I did not say auto loss. I actually won 30% of the time against him in 5th (3/10 games I can recall)

The Doom Scythe and Quad Gun will probably end up being your least effective units, since they will die so quickly.

The "fliers are unbeatable" panic is just that. You beat them by playing the game, which is rarely about killing the enemy, same as every other army.

Thanks for the automatic assuption that I am a WAAC player.

Ihatenids specificaly asked to play the elysians that I have had since D99 detachment. Slowly but surely I am leaving 40k behind partly because of attitudes like this. In my 6th edition games I bring 3 lists one tournament level, one fun and one no flyers. Its my opponents choice what he plays. There are several Dakkites that can back this up.

Indeed, Hesh is the opponant I have chosen to play against, and his D99 is not a WAAC by any stretch of anyones imagination.

I was mearly asking the opinion of dakka about a Doom Scythe + a Quad Gun against 9 IG Flyers. that is all

Anyway Nids better asking for help stopping the 31 man deepstriking combined platoon

A lot of people have really bad attitudes towards the game then.

You can also try some odd maneuvering to kill whatever he has on the board that aren't those fliers. He loses automatically if you kill those before his reserves arrive.

Also, where's he getting the army list? The one in IA 3 certainly isn't a valid list anymore.

IA8 has the Elysian Army list in it. D-99 was a Forge world update to the IA8. Main points being no Vendettas, no Infantry Platoon, preferred enemy (Nids) and a 10pt increase on Squads cost.


@IHateNids I cannot be bothered to have to defend myself on this thread because I was asked to use the Elysians. I know you didn't post the thread expecting some of the replies but the game is off.

I cannot believe the whinging going on when in reality it was meant to be a friendly game between two players and my opponent chose the Army I was to use.

I was using the game to restart my interest in 40K which has waned in the past months but I can see the of Dakka have decided to be offended that I have the temerity to play the Army I have bought, collected, painted and played for 4 Years because they think Flyers are the new WAAC choice. I am glad I had the forethought to buy 9 Flyers 2 years before 6th Ed.

Those that complain about WAAC lists the answer is simple, if you dont like your Opponents list ask them to change it if they can, if they don't, do not play them.

I honestly wanted to play a very similar list to this mainly because I like the extremely mobile guardsmen, I wouldnt give a rats if they got rid of jink and whatnot, I want to play Air Assault troops because I love the idea IRL so why not apply it to a game that I am going to blow my own money on. If dakka wants me to play a certain army I will happily do so, so long as they pay for the models and ship them to me free of charge.Until that day arrives I will play what I want and can afford.
