Greetings,

I just finished up this model and wanted to get some feedback. I've heard that this model has a lot of detail, but whoever said that should have been arrested for criminal understatement. This model is infact quite insane. You could spend months painting this and still find more work to be done. I gave it my best effort for the last two weeks, and finally had to call it "finished". In the end, I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I feel like he should be the center of attention on the table, even if it isn't quite golden daemon material. I tried several new techniques on this one, and I feel like they may be a little hit and miss. Please post your comments and critiques, especially if you have any helpful tips.

1- Gems. I've never really painted gems worth anything, but really tried to at least get close to a gem as I could. I don't think they are completely terrible.
2- Wet Blending (helmet, tunic, spear) tried to make smooth blends where possible (yellow to orange on tunic is supposed to look like flame)
3- OSL. First time I've attempted it, tried to make the ground underneath glow a little. Not sure I hit the mark though.
4- Armor. I was really lost on colors. I wanted some contrast on the model and I like the black, but not sure about the red hard edging. I think it looks good, but kind of ametuer.
5- Scorched grass. I really like how it looks in some places. Probably will go exaggerate the effect so it transitions from black to green more obviously.

Here's a little something for those of you who are unfamiliar with this model. Here's a size comparison:

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

A little to light in color for my taste, needs more ash tones. It is well painted though, I'm not hating.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

I have to agree with the above post i'm afraid. You have done an absolutely stunning job painting it, but there are two things i would say need refinement.

first, the loincloth. As cool as your flame effect is, it's just too yellow and blends in with the body of the model too much, I would have gone with a cloth colour, and used it as an opportunity for some freehand or something like that, to break up the brightness of the model.

Second, the armour. as you said the black with red edging does look a little basic, but it could be made to look really impressive if you turned the red edging into cracks, and painted them to look like his 'skin' was glowing through them. Like the effect seen so often on volcano bases.

In general though, it's a stunning model, and makes me miss the one i had. I wish i had done as good a job as you have.

I dont think its that light IRL i think the colors are getting washed out by the bright white background.

If you have access to photoshop I would change the background to a grey and watch it really pop.

I like him. He's bright and colorful and angry looking. Very Eldar, very Khaine.

excellent job. The model is insane and I would be scared to even attempt it. The one thing I noticed (right away) is that he is a big terrible monster walking across a backyard. I wonder if you could scorch the areas that he walks in without ruining the base?

Good paintjob... nice work and effort... But for me it dont look like molten rock/magma/fire

I mean, it is GREAT as a paintjob, but i think you wanted to make the fiery paintjob...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
