Hello all, I'm working on the list for my gun-line Viking IG with SW allies, and I can't decide between two choices: a Fortress of Redemption, or a lone wolf and a pack of five fenrisian wolves. with the points I have available I won't be able to upgrade the fortress much, but it will give my artillery (a manticore and four griffons) something to hide behind. as far as the lone wolf, I heard they were good, but they may not fit with a gun-line army, and the fenrisian wolves were just because I had 40 points left over.
as far as fluff the fortress is going to be a drop ship sort of thing, it just parks itself and provides fire support after the troops discharge (by the way if anyone know the dimensions of a fortress of redemption or if you know of any dropship designs that would work for an IoM ship and could be clearly broken into three parts please let me know) and the lone wolf will be a brooding drunkard with the wolves as the main character's pets.
So what does Dakka think: Fortress or Wolves?

It depends what terrain is in your area, if you have ruins then swerve the fortress. For a gunline army you will need to watch out for deep strikers unless you have perfect deployment. Might be work a bastion and another back of long fangs.

For shielding ordnance vehicles I would maybe look at a sky platform instead. 4+ invul for anyone sat on top - and signficantly cheaper.

FoR is really for when you bring 3 packs of long-fangs to the table and a bunch of HWS.

Trust me I would bring more long fangs, but my allies HS slots are full with a squad of long fangs. And would a sky shield be better than the ageis defense line I have now?

Aegis better for infantry, skyfire better for vehicles. 4+ invul on a vehicle is huge and they are also harder to assault as the unit has to move 3" to just get onto the platform.

well I've got a lot more infantry than vehicles, (2x platoons of 3x infantry squads plus two squads of grey hunters and a squad of long fangs VS. a mantacore and four griffons) so maybe I should go with the aegis. the wolves can guard the artillery and the lone wolf can just go off and cause trouble. besides I don't know if I could fit five vehicles on a skyshield.
