Hi all,
As all all my other projects are on go-slow as I don´t have much time I thought I would try my hand at a bit of non-metallic metal (NMM).
Knocked up a Swooping Hawk Exarch from a few bits I had lying around, put a Necron on the base and got going. Using the masterclass guides from GW and some other internet inspiration, not too bad so far, need to work on smoother blending for sure but I´m quite happy so far. Have some time off work so the main part of the model should see some progress over the weekend and next week.
This is the result so far: Critical comments please as want to improve a lot. Have the Dark Vengeance box to play with so thinking of NMM on the Hellbrute after this.

I love it. I've never attempted NMM so I am very impressed. Hoping to see more work soon please!

It's looking great so far. As you said, some of the blending needs to be a bit smoother, especially the white edges. The head is looking fantastic though.
Some tiny scratches or dents in the metal would also enhance the look a bit as he's looking very clean and fresh for a batttered, buried Necron

That is very good for a first try. I have never made a serious attempt myself but I just might now.

A few photos for the update. Getting there slowly, not much new NMM, but I tried to make the armour a little reflective without going over the top.
@endtransmission, how's the slightly more rusty and damaged Necron? Still needs work but as it's only a first test not too bad.
Pic of the whole model as I know you are all curious what it looks like!

Chest piece done in gold, very happy with it, definitely the best NMM so far on the model. Took ages of repeating edge highlights and shading down. Needs a yellow glaze and then re whiting on the tips. Should get the armour done tonight, then it's gun and wings tomorrow.

Thanks lipsdapips, not at all good yet. This model doesn't have too much metal fortunately, waiting on the Dark Vengeance stuff and new Chaos Marines for a real test. I actually found the more complicated and detailed areas easier to work on, the flatter surfaces are not easy at all, and very unforgiving on non perfect blending.
Got a little more on the model done, updating with photos later when there's a bit more to show.

Here's some more progress shots.
The right wing has been based, shaded then 1 highlight. I'm trying a blend from blue to white and have used 4 washes so far to get the blue, will start working it up to white with highlights soon. The gun will be the same wraithbone effect I have used many times before, like wood grain but blending from snakebite leather through bleached bone to white. Still not sure on the gem colour for the bone areas.
