Hi folks, I'm about to start an army for my return to 40k after a 14 year break. I've decided to go Blood Angels but wanted to create my own successor chapter, mostly to allow myself greater freedom with regards to painting and modelling. I've missed a lot of the fluff that's been released in the intervening years and I haven't read much Black Library at all, so I would really appreciate it if some of you fiction guys wouldn't mind taking a quick look at what I've got so far and give me your opinions as to whether it all sounds reasonable and feasable and such. It is deliberately a bit short and vague because I do want a bit of freedom with it ( I do intend on filling in the blanks where certain names should be....help?). I liked the Angels Vermillion simply because of their very limited and vaguely secretive background. I really only didn't go with them because I wanted a white chapter symbol instead of black. Purely for asthetics. Anyways, here they are...... Angels Amaranthine!

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Angels Amaranthine

am·a·ran·thine
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or resembling the amaranth (an imaginary flower that never fades)
2. Eternally beautiful and unfading; everlasting.
3. Deep purple-red.

Name: Angels Amaranthine

Founding Chapter: Blood Angels

Home world: (need a name?). Now a dead world.

Founding: 3rd Founding (M32). Unconfirmed

Last known Chapter Master: (need a name?)

Specialties: Deep-strike actions; assault-oriented; close range firefights

Status: Unknown. Presumed lost.

Birth

Believed to have been sired by the Blood Angels during the 3rd Founding around the same time that the Flesh Tearers Chapter were also founded.

Despite being dubbed “The Everlasting”, created as they were in the image of their founding chapter and to continue the pure Blood Angels gene-line for eternity, they are believed to have existed for less than 3 millennia. Quite in keeping with their name however, Angels Amaranthine, were known to enjoy extremely long lifespans, even for descendants Sanguinius. In their short history, there were at least 5 Brothers known to have lived over 1000 years. This included their last known Chapter Master __________.

Home planet _______ found East of Baal on the fringes of Ultima Segmentum, almost within what is known as the Ghoul Stars region

Decline

The Angels Amaranthine were the first Chapter to respond to the threat from the Ghoul Stars known as the Pale Wasting. Such was the speed and ferocity of the sudden incursion, that by time the Chapter's only battle barge “The Immortal” could return home, the planet ________ was lost, along with a large proportion of the young chapter's marines.

The remnants of the already small chapter, The Immortal, and those on board believed to include much of the 1st, 3rd and 5th companies as well as their remaining Death Company, fought furiously in revenge for their ruined home and lost Brothers. Indeed, they were still fighting fiercely and strongly, holding the border of Ultima Segmentum when they were finally joined in battle by the Novamarines and ten other Space Marine chapters.

After the long fought defeat and routing of the star spawned plague incursion, The Immortal was unaccounted for. Presumed destroyed, though no eyewitness accounts of the destruction of the battle barge were ever recorded and no wreckage ever recovered. ________ remains a dead world to this day.

It is a favoured belief among the Blood Angels and their successor chapters that The Immortal was not destroyed and in fact the ship, and battle brothers aboard in all their great rage pursued the enemy deep into the Ghoul Stars and fought eternally, endlessly for vengeance.

With a bit of luck the P&M blog will start (tentatively) this week.

Thanks again for reading.

Alan

Planet name could be marainein, I the stem of the flower. I think it's ancient Greek...

Rest of it seems sound, though being joined by 10 chapters seems a lot.

Thanks. That's a good shout for the name of the homeworld.

And Yeh, I thought it was a excessive amount of chapters as well but I just took the story straight from the pale wastings entry on lexicanum.com. Says something about the novamarines and eleven other space marine chapters who were destroyed in the conflict.

I just made this chapter one of the eleven. Not sure what source material was referenced in the lexicanum entry. I'd need to check.

As for the name of your Chapter Master, consider the Fantasy Flight name generator. Just search on google for '40k name generator' and it should appear. I got my Chapter Master's name from it too

Yeh, had a look, some work, some don't. It's actually a bigger decision than I thought it would be. You want to get it right and commit. Not pick a name then get bored of it and change it. I've not got any children but I imagine naming them is kinda similar.

I might go down the route of painting each character or sergeant's name on the base like you see some people do. Just so that I'm less inclined to change them. Adds to the authenticity of it all I think.

Also found this, http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/shakes.html a list of Shakesperian names. Might just try pick names from this list. Might create a nice little theme.

You could paint the names at the bottom of the base, so it won't be seen when looking at the miniature itself, only when you turn the base.

Yeh maybe. My free hand is coming along but I don't think I'd manage a nice gothic script round the edge of a base.

Thank you very much.

Although, my background is going through a fairly major rewrite at the moment. So a fair bit is changing.

Hopefully get it done soon enough.

Cheers, it's turning into a bit of an epic I'm afraid, but I'll post it when I'm done.

Bet it can be a pain but if it turns into epic, also can mean it becomes an epic background
